Chapter One
Bella's Pov "Inmate 2324, get up." The cell guard called, opening the door to the cell. I got up and looked at my other cellmate, who was now glaring at me. Making my way past them, I walked towards the door, wondering what had happened this time. Following carefully behind the cell guard, I couldn't contain my curiosity anymore, so I asked the question that had been bothering me since I got out of my cell. "Is everything alright, ma'am?" I voiced out. "Oh yes, a family member is here to discuss your release." She said this, stopping at the front of the door and smiling at me. I looked at the door for a while, wondering who it might be. I've been here for a couple of months now, and no one really came to see me. Opening the door, I entered the office, looking around slightly. My eyes landed on my grandfather, and my eyes immediately welled up as I ran towards him, embracing him. He was the only one who believed me, even though he never came to see me all this time. It doesn't matter because I knew he believed me. "It's okay; baby girl, I'm here now." He said, "Cease my hair. "It's okay, dear. Grandpa is here to take you back home." He said this, making me raise my head from his chest and look at him in disbelief. He nodded his head, smiling at me. "Congratulations, inmate 2324; you have been proved innocent." The warder said this, looking at me with a smile. I hugged my grandpa tightly. I was free. How? I wanted to ask but was overwhelmed with the news I had just heard. The guard from the other time came forward and separated me from my granddad. Taking me to the storeroom, she gave me my clothes, asking me to go change while my grandfather took care of the documents. I took the clothes and turned to take my leave when she called me back. " Hey! Be careful of the friends you make out there." She smiled at me before asking me to go. I marched towards the toilet with my clothes in my hands and a smile on my face, passing my cellmates on the way, who glared at me. Rushing to take off the uniform I had on with excitement bubbling in me, my body was slammed so hard on the wall by someone behind me. Coughing slightly, I struggled to keep my eyes open as the impact my body made on the wall made me weak. Shaking my head to clear my vision, I saw Tina standing in front of me with a gun in her hands. Panicking as I saw her hands going towards the trigger, I rushed and held the gun. One second I was trying to save myself, and the next the sound of a gunshot was heard, making my eyes widen as I stared down at Tina, who was now bleeding. I pushed her and stepped back with horror, looking down at my hands, which were now covered with blood. Shaking my head furiously, I kept muttering. My grandfather rushed in, looked at me with wide eyes, and collected the gun from my hands, giving me his jacket to quickly rub off the blood in my hands. I stood there frozen, not able to comprehend what had just happened. Some guards entered and looked down at Tina before looking at me. A guard stepped forward with her handcuffs, making me shake my head furiously as I went behind my grandfather's back, scared. No!!!! I shouted inwardly. My day and hardship flashed in between. Four hours ago "I warned you!" A voice whispered, her reflection showing again in the bathroom mirror. I stood in the middle of the dining room, watching as all the maids rushed off to set the table for our breakfast. Shifting my gaze from the maid, I turned around the room, my feet still rooted in a spot. My gaze stopped at the gigantic mirror on the other side of the dining room. Walking towards it, I stopped at the front of the mirror, looking at myself. I had my orange juvenile uniform on, my hair scattered on my head, and heavy dark eye bags under my eyes. The realization dawned on me: I was looking like a psychopathic criminal. Digging my hands into my hair, I shake my head furiously. "This can't be happening!" I panicked "It was a dream!" It was all a dream, right? I asked myself as I felt sweat dripping down my forehead. "I am innocent. I am innocent." I whispered repeatedly, going to my knees and hugging myself. Hearing different voices whispering, I raised my head and looked around me. The maids were all looking at me; they were all pointing, their eyes holding accusing glares. I fell down on my buttocks, crawling backward, shaking my head more furiously, hoping that God would hear me and let the floor open and consume me. "I warned you!" A voice whispered more loudly than the other voices. "You shouldn't have!" I warned you! The voice repeated itself over and over again. I brought my knees back to my chest, hugging myself once again as I looked around, trying to find out where the voice was coming from. My gaze stopped at the mirror once again. It showed no reflection except for a completely dark background. A teenage girl came out of the dark background looking exactly like me. She had the same eyes as mine but a different shade of hair. She stared at me with intensity in her eyes, making me sit uncomfortably on my spot. "I warned you, I did!" she screamed over and over again, banging her forehead against the mirror, making my eyes go wide in fear as tears continuously poured down my cheeks. I buried my head in between my knees, using my hands to cover my ear, trying to stop myself from hearing the sound of the shattering mirror. I heard the sound of footsteps approaching me, making me raise my head to check who it was. She stood right in front of me with blood dripping down her forehead and a piece of the mirror in her hands. "Remember, I warned you." She said this before putting the piece of glass in between her hands. Raising them up, she charged at me. My eyes bolted open, panic clouding my senses. I looked around, furiously trying to catch my breath, my throat dry and itchy. My eyes landed on the concert wall on each side of the small juvenile cell. Taking a deep breath, I signed in relief. It was just a dream. I sat up and buried my face in my palms. "Why was this happening to me?" I asked myself as I felt my eyes getting watery. Here I am, locked up in a cell for a crime I never even committed. Isn't it enough? I screamed in my head. "My traitors are enjoying their lives out there," I thought as I chuckled bitterly in my head. I will make all of them pay; they will never know what hit them when I am through with all of them. My hands formed a fist as the image of her eyes flashed through my mind. I felt something hit me, but the boiling rage inside me made me pay no attention to where it was coming from. A hand gripped my hair, painfully dragging me across the room and dropping me beside the foot of someone. I looked up wearily, as I already knew what was coming next. She grabbed my face roughly, making me face her. "Are you deaf rich stuff?" She shouted, spitting in my face a little bit. Swallowing down my spittle, I shook my head, scared for my life. "Okay, okay, then let me ask you one last time: what do we have today?" She glared at me. I quickly freed myself from her grip, tucked in the gray singlet I wore inside my orange jacket, and cleared my throat. "Well, for today's event, we will first be going for lunch and then to the rehab center." I said it with fake enthusiasm, plastering a fake smile on my lips. They all chuckled, looking at me, while I tried my best to keep my tears from falling down my face. I thought I would get used to this, but with each passing day, it gets harder. Smiling, I bowed to her and asked for permission to sit back down. Immediately after I got into the cafeteria, I went straight to get my food. I devoured my food, trying to get as much as I could into my belly before I got to my seat. I got to my seat and sat down, smiling at my other cellmates. I picked up my spoon to finish up what was left on my plate when a fist landed on the table beside me, startling me a little. "You've got some nerve, bitch." Tina, the girl from my cell, said I gulped, looking at her. "What's wrong, Tina?" I asked, forging a sense of innocence. She clapped her hands, chuckling, before slamming my head on the table. "I guess you have forgotten rich stuff, but this isn't your father's mansion. So you follow the rules; you follow my rule." She shouted, spitting on my face. Releasing my head, she spat in my food and slammed my face back on the plate, then left, chuckling. My hands formed a fist as I furiously wiped the tears rolling down my cheeks. This was all their fault. I was in here because of them. And I swear to make them pay dearly. I sat down against the wall of the cell room, pondering how my life had changed so far. It all started with a question, and that question led to many things that led to me being where I am today. I couldn't help but wonder: if I had chosen the other answer, would I be here? Would I still be loved? I pondered.
