Garrett POV
I stared out the window as Mitch drove, we were about an hour out of Freestone, my heart had beat faster with every passing kilometer.
I had tried to call Ivy 3 times since I'd spoken to Conrad the first time, I'd received Conrad twice and Florain the last time, but I couldn't wrap my mind around it.
I grit my teeth, there had to be another explanation but from what I'd heard so far, multiple packs confirmed the news, straight from Blackwater pack members not just Conrad.
One told him how one of the member's had watched her leap over the cliffs edge, plummeting willing into the rocks below, the sickening thud of impact, haunting him every night since.
This recollection had turned a knife in my gut, I shook the thoughts away, instead looking down at my phone, wishing for just one glimmer of hope, that Ivy was still alive.
Sighing, I leaned back in my seat, willing myself to relax, but if I was honest, I wished Mitch would punch the pedal to the floor so I'd be there sooner.
"Hey Alpha..." My head snapped to Mitch, he kept his eyes forward, nervous beads of sweat trickled down his temples.
Lately Mitch had taken to calling me Alpha to reduce his chances of incurring my wrath, it was working..for now.
Mitch cleared his throat trying again.
"We aren't far from Freestone now, did you want to stop there or keep going to the Blackwater Pack house?" He finished, I blinked it hadn't occurred to me, till now that Ivy wouldn't be working at her bookshop, or waiting at the motel, So I suppose there was only one place to go.
"Keep going to Blackwater.." I replied coldly, Mitch didn't speak again as we drove to Blackwater Packhouse.
Conrad POV
Everything was going to s**t without Ivy, I don't know how I'd lived before her, for some reason her death had effected every member of the pack deeply, they had nightmares of her death, or what it could mean for the pack's future, they even debated the possibility of the pack being cursed.
Yes, I felt like I was barely treading water with the bombardment of problems, all that aside just organising daily routine patrols had become a mission of its own.
Little did I know, that I had many more problems to come today, the first one from the only she-wolf not mourning the Luna's death...Natalie.
I'd forgotten all about her in the midst of the chaos, but there she was, slipping into my office and locking the door.
She moved quietly towards me like a wraith, I frown in displeasure, her company was the last I wanted in that moment, but her eyes were focused and could only be described as bedroom eyes.
I cleared my throat, my eyes narrowing at her approach, she paused standing on inches away now on the opposite side of the desk.
"How can I help you Natalie?" I ask, my voice came out cold and venomous, I didn't want her in my presence and definitely not locked in my office, nothing good could come of her visit.
She frowned, tossing her long blonde tresses over her shoulder. she then pulled her shirt down further, leaning on the desks, her breast's spilled over her too small bra, my instincts soared with lust, whilst my mind cringed in disgust.
"It's how I can help you, Alpha Conrad." She whispered suggestively, I had to force myself not to roll my eyes, though a small pang of pain was felt at the title of Alpha.
"You help me?" I asked with bored disbelief.
"Yes, I thought since..the passing of the potential Luna.." My body tensed, she paused, thinking it was in grief instead of fury, I kept my eyes bored and expression blank as she continued.
"You might need some company, a bit of distraction and...love." Now I was taken aback, my face must of betrayed me, because she flutter her eyelids, her face a mask of concern.
"Love?" I scoffed, my blood boiling at the thought of anyone but Ivy warming my bed, let alone the idea of Natalie!...it more then left a bad taste in my mouth.
"No, I don't think I need 'your' idea of company right now, or ever. I have a standard to uphold and your below it..." my words were blunt and clipped, Natalie reeled back like she'd been slapped, as I continued.
"You are here only as a favour to Alpha Brody, but with Ivy gone, it seems you've worn out your welcome." I finished, my nails digging into my palms, as I clenched my fists on the desk.
"But I.." She started but I held a hand up, her eyes darted to it, a look of surprise past over her features as she noticed the half moon cuts from my nails, I watched in disdain as a droplet of blood landed on the desk between us.
"Go. I don't have the patience for you today." I cut in, she swallowed, looking lost.
I huffed a breath of frustration, closing my eyes, I pinched the bridge of my nose, I could feel my fury rising like a glass under a tap, filling with water.
I stood up, opening my eyes, I dropped my hand and came around the front of the desk, I passed Natalie without acknowledgement, I unlocked the door, tuning to her, I opened it gesturing her to leave.
Her shoulders slumped, as she walked the few steps to the door, she paused before me, that's when I smelt it and Kon's ears pricked into response.
I snapped my eyes to hers, she smirked as she looked up through her lashes.
"You're on heat." I stated, the words coming out husky, my throat rippled with a low growl.
"Still don't want my company Alpha?" Natalie asked, her voice sweet and seductive as I couldn't help but inhale the scent of her, it was so tempting, my mind fogged with it's beckoning offer.
She watched as I stiffened, an internal battle of instinct and logic waged within me.
That's when she took the opportunity, Natalie lunged, pinning me against the door frame, her lips slamming into mine, one hand raked nails down my back, the other held the back of my neck as she coaxed kisses from me.
A growl of arousal sounded from her throat, pushing me over the edge, I could feel myself slipping, I wanted her now, mate or not, she was in heat and my wolf was willing...
I gripped the back of her thighs, guiding her legs around my waist, I lifted up, pressing her against the opposite side of the door frame, I was hard she could feel it, as I held her against the frame, pushing at her core.
We were kissing feverishly, her tongue encouraged mine, I was ready to take her there and then...
That's when I felt it, at first it was a nagging at the back of my mind, like an acknowledgement of another presence, increasing to an insistent knocking, then I felt a rippling wave of fury that sung with promise of pain, I sniffed but it wasn't Natalie, I smelt it was an Alpha.
I snapped back to reality, all enticements of pleasures gone, I looked for the source of the ripple, there standing with a clenched jaw and eyes full of burning hatred stood Ivy's friend and ex, the Alpha; Garrett.
