(Toby's P.O.V.)
The next morning was busy. The whole pack house was buzzing with the preparations for the Elders. In the kitchen, Toby was enjoying his breakfast when Gabriel and Sabrina came in search of food.
They were so wrapped up in each other, they didn't even notice Toby sitting there. Toby saw the look of pure love written all over their faces. His own heart yearned for a mate of his own. Someone who he could love. Someone who would be his.
"Not our time yet.", Scotus reminded him. Toby sighed and pushed up from his seat at the counter. Sabrina looked at his face worried and asked, "You okay?"
"Yeah, just wanna get a run in before we head to the airport for your friend.", Toby said as he walk towards the sink with his plate.
Gabriel hugged Sabrina from behind, looking at Toby.
"Have a good one.", Gabriel said. Toby nodded and walk out into the fresh morning air. He dashed towards the tree line. Scotus was impatient to be set free. Once free of his clothes, Scotus pushed forward. Running deep into the forest.
"Our mate will come. The Goddess has chosen the perfect one for us.", Scotus thought as he ran, his paws ripping the earth up as he picked up speed. As Scotus came closer to the border of their packs territory, he scented something in the air. He followed the unfamiliar scent. He discovered a tent upon the edge of the territory. It looked old but well taken care of. He could smell a human scent inside. It was probably a camper who didn't realize this was private property of the pack. He mindlinked with the Beta to let him know. Once satisfied, Scotus headed back.
After a quick shower, Toby was helping Tyler with the rest of the security checks for the Elders arrival.
Sabrina found him outside talking to the security detail. She had a big poster board covered in glitter and letters in her hands. She was almost bouncing in place with excitement. It made Toby smile. When finished, he walked over to her.
"You must be absolutely dreading seeing your friend.", Toby said sarcastically as he chuckled.
"It's been so long since I've seen her. I'm an excited/nervous ball of energy right now." Sabrina told him as she put up her sign and smile.
Best friend, Red!
Missed you!
The sign was decked out with pictures of them at what looks like age 13 or 14, colored in rainbow, with enough glitter to reflect the sun on a cloudy day. Toby sighed internally. He'd be vacuuming glitter out of his truck for weeks.
"Shall we?", Sabrina asked as she gestured to go smiling.
Reflecting that smile back at her, Toby couldn't help but think her happiness must be contagious.
"Sure." Toby said as he made his way towards his truck.
Once on the road, Sabrina was excitedly talking about the wedding plans.
"I'm so happy Red is gonna be here for the next two weeks. She is gonna be such a big support.", Sabrina said as she practically wiggled with excitement.
"What's she like?", Toby asked lightly. To be honest, he had no interest in anyone who wasn't his mate but he couldn't help be curious about the best friend of his future Luna.
"I'll do you one better. I'll tell you about the first day we met. It was the second day of 7th grade. I was the shy and quiet kid. I read books and listened to music. One of the popular boys, Christopher, decided he wanted to know my name. He yelled across the lunch room at me asking. Only, I couldn't hear him cause of my headphones. He got mad when I didn't answer him. He walked over to me and took the book I was reading out of my hands.", Sabrina said as she stared out the window a the scenery passing by. She turned to face him and smiled wistfully.
"Red was sitting at my table. She watched him as he tore the book in half and dropped it on the table in front of me. She jumped across the table, picked up the book halves and proceeded to hit him with them. Christopher ran away crying.", Sabrina said proudly laughing.
"What happened after that?", Toby asked laughing. He was starting to like the best friend of his future Luna.
"We've been best friends since. Best part was, it was a library book. Christopher got in trouble with the librarian.", Sabrina sighed after laughing so much.
Toby had a great respect for anyone who would stand up for another person. He smiled the whole way to the airport. He was looking forward to meeting Red.
When they got to the airport, they went inside and sat at a Café. Toby ordered coffee for them at the counter. Sabrina sat at a table facing the arrivals. Toby brought the coffee over when it was ready and sat with Sabrina. She was still wiggling in her seat with excitement.
"Maybe we should change this order to decaf. You still give off ants in the pants vibes.", Toby said as he handed Sabrina her coffee.
"In about 15 or 20 mins, my best friend is coming. Remember, ball of energy.", Sabrina said as she gestured to herself.
"When was the last time you saw each other?", Toby asked curious how long it had been.
"Hmm, let me think. It was right before we moved to Oklahoma. She came to visit for a couple days before we moved.", Sabrina said sadly. It was obvious she missed Red.
An announcement sounded over the speakers in the Café. Red's flight was arriving. Sabrina sprung up with poster board in hand. She grabbed Toby's hand and practically ran. As they stood before the arriving visitors, Sabrina kept a sharp eye for Red.
"She's coming.", Scotus yelled in Toby's mind. Toby could smell the scent of clementine and something spicy. It smelt like heaven.
Sabrina screamed next to Toby pulling him back to reality. She rushed forward, bear hugging a redheaded woman. They spun around in a circle while hugging and squealing. When they finally stopped, Red was facing him. His heart stopped and the entire world fell away.
"Mate!", Scotus roared. Toby could hardly believe it. The scent of oranges and cinnamon hit his senses hard.
Sabrina turned around bringing Red forward with her.
"Red, this is Toby. Toby, this is Red or Rita." Sabrina said with a big grin.
"Nice to meet you, Toby.", Rita said politely as she turn towards Sabrina.
Red was Rita? Toby knew Rita. Toby had loved Rita before. She was his mate.
Sabrina and Rita were already headed towards the truck. They were chatting about the wedding plans. She had acted like she had never met him before. Did she not remember him?
"Fuxk!", Toby sighed out as he followed behind, trying to reign in his nerves.
