Ryan showed a little more caution in his approach, not wanting her to fling him out of the veil this time. Not that he was certain how she’d managed it the first time. Ryan paused, frowning as he noticed that Joanna had come to a halt. She stared at something, although he couldn’t tell what it was that had attracted her attention.
He felt the colour drain from his face as she gathered her power, drawing someone to her. As Joanna faced off against one of the Sundered that she had inexplicably drawn to her, Ryan drew his own weapons and power. Closing the distance between them, he had the sinking feeling he would not make it to her in time. He saw her strike and to his shock her opponent made no move to defend himself. The Sundered just allowed her to kill him, his last words to her echoing
