Fated
At seventeen, she made a choice no one could comprehend. She went to the hospital with her bestfriend, Mandy. They sat in the doctors office all weary and dull. Tears could be seen streaking down their faces.
The doctor scanned through the report and shook his head. "Miss. Howard..." the doctor let out a quiet sigh before he continued " I'm scared we have to take the last decision and that is our only choice" the doctor paused.
Veronica looked at the doctor with a slight hope at bay. Mandy touched her hands and rubbed it gently trying to calm her.
" And what is that doctor?" Veronica asked with anticipation although she knew what the doctor was gonna say. She just anticipated that there might be a miracle. She prayed silently to God 'Let there be a miracle oh Lord'
The doctor inhaled and exhaled as if he was struggling to speak. A brief silence passed between the three before the doctor finally spoke " I'm sorry but we you have to give birth before the next year passes..." the doctor halted for a while and glanced at her for a second before he continued " rather unfortunately too, you can only get pregnant through intrauterine insemination..." he paused. Expecting a reaction from the lady. Veronica just sat there lost.
She couldn't take in what the doctor just said. She was trying very hard to digest the words that the doctor just said.
How? Why her? she reasoned.
Why is heaven treating her like that. She's just a naive girl.
She could only cry quietly and accept her fate. She looked over at the doctor and gestured for him to continue with whatever that was left unsaid.
" we already have a sperm donor. And that's the good news but-" he paused before he continued " the donor doesn't want to disclose his identity to anyone".
Vero looked at the doctor with utter disbelief. What the hell. 'I'm going to have a child without a father' what the heck was going on with her cursed unfortunate damn f**king life. She sat there unmoving for a couple of seconds before she nodded.
Fine, if this is what she is fated to, she's going to face it by hook or crook.
She's going to endure every pain bit by bit
'I got this' she said to herself in her head.
