It's almost 8 PM when we finally arrive at my house. I bring our shopping bags with me as I'm getting out of the car. William walks over towards me after he's done locking his car. He takes the shopping bags from me and holds my hand using his other hand. We immediately head to my house's front door. I can see a flickering light coming out from one of the windows at the first floor. My mom must be watching TV right now. She leaves the curtain open so that when I come home, I'll know that she's still up and waiting.
This habit of hers has been fully understood by my dad and me. That's why we ought to let her know in advance if we plan on coming home late or not coming home at all, so that she wouldn't have to wait. My dad works in a shifting schedule at a local hospital. Sometimes he has to work in night shift or take some over time at night. That's why it's important for us to keep her updated. It's good that William understands that as well since he managed to inform her that I wouldn't be coming home yesterday.
William presses the door's bell without bothering to let go off my hand. He just raises our hand together and presses the button with his index finger. It is no more than a minute of waiting until the door is opened. We are greeted by a cheerful motherly face from the other side of the door. My mom loves to smile a lot and she's strongly confident. I wonder why such positive vibes didn't get to be passed down to me.
"Hi! Welcome home." Her shoulder length black hair is now being tied into a ponytail. She wears a gray wool cardigan above her white tank top with a pair of black yoga pants. Are those really yoga pants? I'm not so sure, but they do seem so to me.
"Hey, Sarah. How are you doing?" William greets my mom with his polite smile.
"I'm good, William." My mom answers. "Please come in."
"I'm sorry we're a bit late. I hope we don't make you worry. We were looking for a gift this afternoon." William gives a short explanation. "Louis' best friend's birthday is coming up this Friday."
"It's no problem, William. As long as he's with you, I can always feel at ease." By the look of her blooming smile, it's obvious that my mom likes William so much. She deems William to be a polite and highly responsible person despite his age. She believes that William will never hurt her one and only son. And I'd like to think that her hunch is right.
I motion to take the shopping bags in William's hand. "Let me take these upstairs first."
William is unexpectedly tightening his hold on the bags. This raises a question in my head. I look up at his smiling face and frown.
"Kiss me first, Baby."
Seriously? Did he just say that in front of my mom? He knows I can never say no to him. That's why he deliberately lowers his head to approach mine. I kiss him on the lips while trying so hard to contain the embarrassment of having to do this in front of my mom. Most people might think this is an ordinary thing, but I'm not used to this. I never had a boyfriend before William.
I hear my mom is chuckling at the scene before her eyes. "Oh, isn't it nice to be young?"
I see William is allowing a happy smirk on his lips once we part from the kiss. I know he must be taking a great joy of seeing my heavily redden and embarrassed face. I quickly take the shopping bags and run upstairs before any of them manage to throw any more remarks to tease me.
"Isn't my baby adorable, Sarah?" I can still hear William's voice on my way upstairs, proudly bragging.
Oh my God. Is there anyone out there who talks like that to their parent's boyfriend? I shake my head a few times and let out a small sigh before entering my bedroom. I pull out the iPhone and Jess' Apple Watch on my study desk nearby the bed. The Apple Watch has already been wrapped neatly with a colorful wrapping paper. William insisted it to be taken care of by a gift wrapper store at the mall instead of me. He obviously didn't want me to make too much effort on other people, even if it's as simple as wrapping their gift. Yeah, William was just being William.
I fold the paper bag and put them away in my paper bag storage in case I will need them again someday. Then I take a short moment to look at myself in the mirror. I seriously have no idea what William sees in me, but I feel grateful that he does. I can see a pinkish color starts tinting on my cheeks. I give my both cheeks a light massage using my fingers in the hope of shaking the blush away. Once I can pull myself together, I leave my bedroom and head downstairs to where my boyfriend awaits.
I can hear my mom's and William's voice coming from the kitchen's direction. It seems like the TV is now abandoned and they're more engaged in an intense chattering.
"Sooner or later he's going to have to leave this house, Sarah." William is in the middle of talking when I enter the kitchen area. He and mom are sitting face to face at the dining table. A glass of cold water is served before William. "You can't possibly expect him to live with his parents forever, can you?"
As William notices me entering the kitchen, he taps the table top beside him with his fingers to silently ask me to take a sit beside him. And I do that immediately.
Judging by how serious the look on my mom's face, she seems to be a bit wind up in her own thoughts. "I know, William." She starts. "But I never thought it's going to happen before he finishes high school."
So apparently, they're in the middle of discussing that plan. William's plan to bring me along with him to New York after his graduation. There's an obvious reluctance in my mom's expression. Her eyebrows curl, she doesn't smile. And I can understand that. She must also think that this is too sudden. But William doesn't seem to be affected by her response at all. He still sits up straight and reeks of unwavering confidence as always.
"Sarah, you've got to understand why I do this. I want to keep him safe. You said yourself that he's prone to get picked on by others, didn't you? So, how am I going to protect him if he's here, being too far away from me?" William still manages to maintain his calm state while reasoning. "Don't worry about finishing high school. I'll enroll him to the best private school in NYC where bullying will be the least thing for you to worry about."
I never know that my mom ever mentioned about me being a possible victim of bullying to William. I hope she doesn't know that her son had actually experienced that before. I don't want to make her worried more than she already is. It's good that being with William can somehow, put her mind a little bit at ease. I know she trusts my boyfriend so much. But that, of course, doesn't mean she'll give an easy 'yes' this time.
"But... I'm going to miss him."
"Of course, you will, Sarah, because he's your only baby. But I'm sure you also prioritize his safety, just like I do. That's why you've got to let me continue protecting him."
William glances at me. He's expecting me to say something in his favor. He doesn't want my mom to think that this is solely William's plan.
"We're still going to visit you every now and then, Mom." I add. "Because I'm also going to miss you."
She stares at me while contemplating with her thoughts. "Do you want to move in with William?"
I nod slowly to answer her question.
Suddenly she allows a small chuckle. "What am I asking? Of course, you'd want to live with someone you love." She says in a teasing manner.
I realize that my cheeks are burning from her remarks. It's kind of embarrassing to hear such thing from your mother while your boyfriend is sitting right beside you. "Mom, please." I beg her not to go on with his teasing.
I throw a side glance at William. He's smiling widely at my mom and then at me. I can recognize a victory smile. It seems like he's contented with my mom's comment. Like it's one of his goals to make my mom understand that her son is currently in love with him.
"You don't have to decide it now, Sarah." William speaks again. "But I beg you to take this into your consideration. You know I care so much about Louis."
"Alright. I'll think about it." My mom replies with a sigh. "And I'll discuss it also with his dad when he's back from work."
William nods. He looks at his watch and decides it's time for him to leave. "Sarah, I think I'll be excusing myself now. Louis must be tired from this afternoon shopping. I don't want to hinder you both from getting your rest."
He proceeds to get up from his seat. Me and my mom follows in an instant.
"Let me show you the door." My mom offers her assistance.
"It's alright, Mom. I'll do it." I response immediately. William would also expect me to be the one who does it.
"Good evening, Sarah. Thank you for your time." William bids his farewell to my mom.
"No, William. I thank you for taking my son home safely." My mom claims back her seat.
"No problem. There's nothing I won't do for his well-being." Says William before he leaves the kitchen.
He's such a gentleman. I hope my mom can see what I see in him as well.
I silently tail William to the front door and stop by the door as he reaches it. He turns around to face me and pulls me into his tight hug. "You did good, Baby." He whispers softly into my ear.
His voice sounds pleased and it's intoxicating to me. I'm genuinely at ease if I can make my boyfriend happy. "Thank you." I reply him gratefully.
I can see a glint of pride flashing in his cold eyes as he hears me thanking for his small praise. I know he likes it a lot whenever his small gestures are being paid back with some forms of gratitude. The thanking probably sounds like a music to his ears. He brings his face closer to mine until I can hear his soft breathing before he immediately seals our lips together in a kiss.
I let him taking his time savoring my lips. Playing dominance where of course I have to surrender to his will. Even though his kisses are becoming more and more demanding each day, this time he seems to be a bit merciful than the usual. He allows me to take a lot of short breaks to catch my breath.
As his possessive hug tightens around my waist, I can feel his other hand starts stroking my lower back. I look up at his domineering eyes to find out what he's up to. "William?" I pant heavily when we finally end our kiss.
"Does it still hurt?" His question comes in a hiss while he keeps caressing my bottom.
I shake my head in negative. "Don't worry."
He places a chaste kiss on my lips. "Don't tell me what to do, Baby." He whispers. "It's my right to worry about you."
Smiling, I give him a quick nod.
Without any command, he starts kissing me again while still keeping one of his hand on my bottom. His tight hold on my waist is clearly telling me just how desperately he wants me to move in with him. He must be hoping that my mom wouldn't object his request.
"William, you're still here?"
My mom's question breaks us off from doing whatever we're doing. Did my mom get to see where his hands were wandering when we kissed just now? My God, this is embarrassing. I can't look at her in the eyes right now.
"Oh, yes, I'm sorry." William answers in a nonchalant tone. "Your son is way too irresistible. I can't hold myself."
My mom is chuckling. Seriously? Why is she laughing at such embarrassing scene?
"I know right." My mom says. "The good thing is he's yours already."
William's eyes are lighted upon my mom's remarks. "Yes, it's so good that he's mine indeed." Repeating my mom's remarks, he dares himself to allow a victory smile to curve on his lips once again.
His pride must have been growing tenfold right now, having given a chance to say something like that out loud in front of my mom.
"Alright, Sarah. I'm leaving now for sure." He bids farewell again. "And, Baby. Please go get some rest. I know you're tired."
I nod before I help to open the front door for him.
"See you tomorrow, William." My mom says.
"Oh, I wish you know how much I can't wait for tomorrow, Sarah." William responds. "Good night you both."
To be honest, I also can't wait for the next day to come, where William will come by for breakfast and then we go to school together.
I think I have fallen pretty hard for him.
