The name haunted her.
The Sixth Bell Society.
Faye turned it over in her head like a puzzle. What did it mean? Who were the five? What happened when the sixth bell rang?
She spent the next day researching in the library, pouring through Wyndgrave's yearbooks and old school newsletters. There were references to "historic traditions," "founding rites," and veiled mentions of "Legacy Night."
It always came back to the chapel.
That evening, she and Griffin returned to the undercroft-this time with flashlights.
The old wooden doors groaned open. The air was heavy with dust and candle wax. Faye spotted symbols carved into the beams-circles, lines, initials. Griffin knelt by a panel in the floor.
"She thought something was hidden here."
Together, they pried it open. Inside: old notebooks, sealed envelopes, and a single velvet box.
Inside the box-an old class ring, etched with the Roman numeral VI.
Faye's breath caught.
Griffin murmured, "Sixth Bell."
They'd found it.
But what was it?
Before she could ask, a noise echoed through the stone corridor.
The two of them looked at each other thinking the same thing,
Footsteps.
Someone was coming.
They grabbed the box and ran.
