I redialed the contact, heart pounding even more. Anne had not picked the call at the first dial but this time she picked it up on the third ring.
"Hello," I said into the phone immediately the call was picked.
"Caily." her voice was slightly shaky, clearly infused with fear.
"Hi, how... How have you been doing?" I tried to start up simply.
"Very well." She replied but her voice didn't sound like she had been doing very well before I called.
"Are you alright? You sound a little..."
"I am fine. Very fine." she cut me off, her words hurried.
"I was doing something so if there's nothing urgent, maybe we can talk later" She added and it was so obvious she had intentionally avoided my first call.
