Destiny's POV
I groaned as I slowly peeled my eyes open. My head felt like lead and opening my eyes felt more like a chore than anything else. The moment they were finally opened, I wasn't sure how I felt.
A shiver raked through my body immediately. Despite the soft mattress and the blanket that coated the bed, I could still feel the sterile bed sending ice through my skin. My bones hurt with each slight movement and I shuddered at the thought of being paralyzed.
Was I really? What if I was? But how could that even be? What exactly had happened?
As a million and one questions ran through my mind, I took the opportunity to get a good look of where I was. Panic settled in me as I took in the baby blue walls that caved me in a rectangular box. It was a hospital room no doubt. Like I needed any more confirmation, something caught my eyes and ears from the other side of the room.
Medical equipment of different sizes and shapes were scattered about, filling the room with a steady hum and whirring of machines. Panic spread through me at the sight of it all.
How was I in the hospital? How did I even get here? Who had brought me in? And how long had I been in here?
“No.” I muttered more to myself than anyone else. There was no way I could just stay here. What if I'd been kidnapped and this was some kind of plan to make me feel comfortable, so comfortable I wouldn't be able to get out of their grasp. “ I need to get out of here.”
My body screamed in protest as I tried to get up. The slower I took it, the more nerve wracking pain spread through my bones, so I did the most reasonable thing I could think of.
Without second doubting or really thinking it through, I jerked up and out of the bed.
Dizzy spells clouded my vision immediately, as I struggled to stand on my own two feet. With my blurry vision and a searing pain in my head, I fought to find the bed. If I didn't, well, I didn't want to think about what would happen. Yet.
“Ma'am.’” someone's panicked voice reached my ears. I let out a sigh of relief as warm hands wrapped around mine, steadying me. Slowly, whoever it was led me back to the bed, until I was completely laid on top of the comfy mattress . “ You need to take it easy.”
“Where am I?” I asked as my blurry vision slowly began to clear up. “ What am I doing here? Why am I here?”
“You don't remember?” Her voice was soft and from her ensemble, I could tell she was a nurse. “ Just try to remember.”
“ I can't.” My memory was completely blank. Even trying to think of anything at the moment would definitely hurt. “ Is there something wrong? Why am I here?”
“Not exactly.” The nurse chimed. I watched a mix of emotions flicker on her face till she finally settled for happiness with a little bit of pity. “ You just need to be really careful in your condition now.”
“Condition?” I chorused. “ What condition? I'm fine and…”
“You're pregnant ma'am.” She let out softly, interrupting me in the process.
“What?” I gasped softly, as my hand flew to my stomach immediately. “ But, how's that even possible?”
“You passed out.” She continued. “ And we ran some tests. You're two months gone.”
The words hung in the air as my heart skipped a beat. Shock and disbelief washed over me, followed by a mix of emotions. Joy, fear and uncertainty coiled in my stomach all at once.
Pregnant? How could I be pregnant? A thousand thoughts swirled in my head all at once as I tried to grapple with the reality of it all. What was I going to do? Where was I going to go? Would Kaius even…
*Kaius*
My heart broke at the thought of him. As memories of the last couple of hours rushed at me, I felt the knots in my chest tighten again. He'd rejected me, in front of the whole pack. What would he do if he found out I was pregnant? Would he even accept the baby?
No, he wouldn't. If he could publicly reject me, then I didn't want to think of what would happen if he found out I was pregnant. I needed to get out of here. I needed to…
“Ma'am.” The nurse's warm hand wrapped around my wrist. Her eyebrows creased with worry as she spoke. “ Ma'am are you okay? You're hyperventilating.”
“I..I…” I stuttered, suddenly finding it hard to breathe. “ I, I'm fine.”
“Are you sure?” She didn't look convinced. “ If there's anyone you would like me to call…”
“No!” I let our abruptly. “ Don't call anyone. I'll be fine.”
“ Okay.” She definitely wasn't convinced. “ If you say so.”
“Did anyone come for me though?” I asked, a tiny ray of hope twirling inside me.
“No, I'm sorry.” The nurse's face fell on her response. I knew I shouldn't have asked. I already knew the truth, yet, I'd just hurt myself even more by asking. “ You were just rushed in here because you were unconscious and….”
“It's fine.” I gave her a taut smile. “ I'll leave now. Thank you.”
I felt the nurse's gaze on my back as I wobbled out of the hospital. My joints ached and I was exhausted, but nothing could compare to heaviness that settled in my heart.
“What was I going to do now?” I mused as I stood in front of the hospital. With my back to the wall, I slid down till my butt came in contact with the gravel finishing of the hospital entrance. The night wind whipped a chili air across the night and I shuddered, as I held back tears. “ If Kaius didn't accept me because I was human, how was he going to accept my baby?”
“ I can help with that, you know.” I jerked up at the sound. Frantically, I turned around just to come face to face with a hooded woman.
“Who are you?” Goosebumps crept along the surface of my skin as I took her in. Dirty white hair snaked out from the cloak she had over her body. With her hunched back and wobbly stick, I already knew she was old. But as she flashed a creepy smile and showed her rotten dentition, it made me wonder just how old she really was. “ And what do you want from me?”
“I want to help you.” She grinned. “ I want to help you become a werewolf.”
