Impending

The frown remained fixed on Kenny's face as he drove the vehicle at great speed. Idris hugged his bag, tightly, looking left and right at Kenny and Akeem.     None of them spoke to another. Kenny constantly looked at Idris, through the mirror, asking if he was ok with just his eyes. Idris also replied with his eyes.      The radio was on since the journey began but it wasn't speaking. It only made the usual noise that radios make when they lose signal.         Idris looked through the windows. They had gone miles but he hadn't seen any human. Though, he saw big rats and dirty dogs run around the streets.     "Where are we going?", Akeem asked, breaking the weird silence.     "Somewhere...", Kenny replied. "We'll get there, soon".     After driving for a few minutes more, the car finally stopped in front of an old abandoned building.      "Idris? Stay in the car", Kenny said and looked at Akeem. "Come with me"     The two soldiers came out of the car and walked into the forest. Kenny stylishly checked if his weapons were intact while carefully watching Akeem who seemed to be acting innocent.   "Where are we going?", Akeem stopped and asked. "I need to know".      "Will you just come along and let's get this over with!" Kenny replied.      "Get what over with"    Kenny pulled out a gun and pointed it at his head. "What happened to Akeem?"       "What- what are you saying?", Akeem stuttered, fearfully raising his hands in the air.       "You know what I'm saying", Kenny said and pointed the gun at his leg. "You'll lose something now"         Slowly, the obvious fear on his face transitioned into a vicious smile. "You figured"          "I was expecting it to take a little longer", Kenny said and pointed the gun at his head. "Get out of him, now"          "He's dead, already".          "That's a lie, get out of him"           "Even if he wasn't dead, I can kill him. I'll just leave and make you watch him bleed to death. Let me be... I will not show up again"            "I can't trust you... Why are you here?"            "We have a mission"            "It's not just you", Kenny's heartbeat pounded faster. "What's your mission?!"      "Not for ordinary ears", Akeem said and quickly, tried to play smart by grabbing his gun. Kenny reacted sharply, shooting Akeem by the leg.          Akeem fell to the ground and he lost grip of his gun. Kenny pointed the gun at his head.           "Either ways, you can't win", Akeem said. "You'll regret not killing me now"     Kenny no longer hesitated. Immediately, he put a bullet in Akeem's head.      The sound of the gunshot startled Idris in the car. It felt like the vehicle was closing in on him and the seat seemed to be vibrating. He was uncomfortable.       He looked left and right at the doors. He put his hand on the door handle on the right and he pressed it down. The door opened and he closed it back, after a second. He did the same thing with the left door, contemplating whether or not to run out of the car.      "bad idea", he said to himself. He began to imagine things.       'what if Akeem shot the gun?", he thought. "I'll be next".     He snapped out of the thoughts as he heard three knocks on the door. The seat stopped vibrating and everything was back to normal. "What happened? Where is he?", Akeem asked.       "Long story. He's dead", Kenny replied and got in the car.     ★★★                  ★★★                 ★★★kk           He twisted the key and luckily the car started working. "Now that's the noise a car should make", Joe commented.          "All thanks to me", Toby replied. "I found the car".         "Hmm, get in the car", Joe entered the car and zoomed off.         "Wait! what are you going to do when we get there?"         "What do you mean? We are setting them free"         "How do you plan to get past the soldiers?"        Joe sighed. "We'll figure something.... we'll knock them out or something".     The clouds were slowly getting darker and the breeze got cooler.      "The rain's going to fall", Toby said.      "You're a ghost. Doesn't affect you", Joe replied. "I'm also in a car. Doesn't affect me"       They drove far and got closer to their destination. The wind had become so strong that they had close all windows. The rain had started drizzling, already.      Joe could barely see the road but he could tell that they were closer to the camp.      Joe stepped on the gas pedal. The car sputtered and he raised his leg. The car didn't stop sputtering.      "what's wrong?", Toby asked.      "We are out of Fuel", Joe replied. The car sputtered, one last time, and stopped.         "Looks like we're sleeping here", Toby said. Joe laid back and relaxed, reflecting on his conversations with his "ultra Instincts".        'From the moment you are able to push a soul out of a body with a single touch, you become invulnerable', the ultra Instinct had told him.      "When the spirit talked about me being able to-"      "No conduit has achieved that", Toby cut him short. "Because it's part of their culture to tap out, halfway.... And what happens next? They pass on their power to another. It either wastes away or the successor uses it and taps out also. Some are born with it."      "So if I don't tap out, I may be able to do that?"       "Maybe yes. Maybe no"     The discussion ended and Joe got more comfortable. The wind was cool and the noise from the raindrops weren't too loud to keep him awake. He slept off.      About one kilometer away was the camp. Like every other rainy day, the captives would sit under the rain, having no shelter. Some took off their shirts and covered their heads with it.       The soldiers left the gates and went into their rooms. One of the captives had caught fever after a similar experience under a worse downpour. She died before the next dawn.         Ada and Alex clinged to Chuma. Alex and Chuma used their shirts to make a cover above them and the three managed to remain under it.      "What's going to happen now?", Idris asked as Kenny stopped the car and relaxed.      "Let's sleep now", Kenny looked back. "I'll get you to a safe place and I will go back, find an excuse for Akeem's absence.... I will constantly check on you with everything you might need, okay?"       "Okay"    The thunder struck loudly and the rain got worse. It got noisy but their sleep wasn't disturbed.
