“I think I may have a lead on your mystery healer.”
The excitement slipped into my voice before I could stop it. I braced myself for the usual reaction—a scowl, maybe a sharp dismissal.

“What?! Are you sure? Where? What—”
“Whoa!” I threw up a hand. “Slow down, pup. One question at a time.”
Kallias frowned instantly.
“Stop joking around, Dame. Did you find something or not?”
I paused, studying him. I’d known Kallias since we were pups; fresh out of the womb and already shoved into each other’s lives by our parents’ friendship. Becoming best friends had been inevitable.
