Prom
I'm supposed to be the Prom Queen, not Her.
I'm supposed to be celebrating tonight. I was supposed to be the most beautiful girl tonight but that got ruined because of that nerd who is trying so hard to be me. But no, all those idiots voted her for prom queen. Now I'm outside sitting alone in this dark and cold parking lot. How did I get here? I need to know.
"Are you crying?" I heard someone say not far from where I was sitting, or should I say hiding. I looked up at him and glared at him.
"No smartass, I'm obviously laughing and celebrating" I said, wiping my tears but still trying not to mess up my mascara.
"Here". He handed me his handkerchief and I mumbled thanks.
"You left your purse." He sat down next to me and gave me my purse. I opened it and took my phone and immediately gasped at my reflection when I saw it on the black screen. I guess my efforts to not ruin my mascara earlier were useless. Psh. stupid mascara, I thought they were waterproof. I should sue for false advertising!
"It's too cold out here, come on." He said and put a coat around me, stood up and held his hand out. I took it and stood up. We walked to his car and he opened the door for me, sat in the driver's seat and turned the car on and, after a while, adjusted the heat. At this point, I had stopped crying and just stared at the little Yoda doll he had hanging in the rear-view mirror. He is such a nerd.
"Ashley". I looked at him and saw that he wasn't wearing those hideous thick glasses. And for the first time since I met him, I was staring directly at his light brown eyes. Which just reminded me of how it was different compared to Clyde's blue eyes. Those damn blue eyes that used to stare directly at me and tell me I was the only girl he loved. I inhaled sharply, closed my eyes and, without even thinking, kissed Oliver. I sensed that he was shocked but he sat still like a statue even though I was kissing him, ME! Ashley Kerwood, cheerleading captain, the most popular girl in school, if not in the whole district, Kissing HIM! Oliver Bhert, President of the Chess Club and the biggest nerd in the class. I stopped and glared at him.
"What?! Am I not enough for you either? Am I not beautiful? Why? Is it because of Jane? It's always about her, isn't it? Little Miss Perfect Janey, Sweet innocent Jane. You should go run after her too. That's what all you people do! Even my friends betrayed me for her!". I felt breathless screaming.
"You are beautiful but you're frustrated." Frustrated isn't enough to describe what I'm feeling right now. I feel mad, sad, annoyed, and betrayed. I didn't even notice that he was already driving. And now we're in a McDonalds drive-thru.
After we got the food, we sat on a bench in a nearby park and ate in silence.
"Oh yeah I forgot to give you this." He then showed me the tiara I was wearing earlier. I took it off when I saw Clyde kiss Jane.
"You dropped this queen, yaas queen yaas! slay!" He said while putting it on me, trying to sound sassy but failing. I raised an eyebrow because this is not like him. I laughed so hard I started to tear up.
"I am never going to take you seriously ever again!" I calmed down and saw that he was smiling softly. And under the lamppost light, he looked breathtaking.
"You look different today" I said, which caught him off guard. He looked away and I think I saw him blush.
"It's because I'm not wearing my glasses."
"You should really stop wearing those glasses. You look better this way."
"Really?" He asked and I just smiled.
" I'm sorry for shouting at you earlier. I was out of line, knowing how you actually felt for Jane all this time-"
"It's okay, I understand" He exhaled and leaned back looking at the sky. He looked sad. Jane was his Vice president at the Chess club, she was his biggest rival when it came to chess but at the same time her bestfriend but to him she was more than just a bestfriend. They grew up together and people knew them as the nerdy pair as they were also competing for the place of valedictorian. I guess he's going to be the only person who understands me right now. I leaned back and rest my head on his shoulder.
"We're going to be okay, they don't deserve us" I closed my eyes and heard him sniffle.
Right now, we're just two broken hearts comforting each other.
