3: Family Breakfast

2068 Words
Montrell “WHY ISN’T BREAKFAST SERVED?!” My father comes to the kitchen from the dining room and he instantly scolds aunt Amber for sitting at the kitchen island with me. She cowers at his presence. “You are not expected to sit on your ass, Amber. Finish breakfast now,” he shouts at her. “Breakfast should’ve been served five minutes ago!” He raises his hand to slap her but I intervene. “Chill dad. Five minutes isn’t enough time to get mad over. It’s almost done which is why I asked her to sit with me. So, if you’re going to punish someone, punish me. I’m the reason she’s sitting on her ass,” I say. I stand and look him directly in the face. We are the same height and despite how much he tries to strike fear in me, I’m not afraid of him. He eyes me up and down and growls. I refuse to back down. “Just hurry up and finish breakfast,” he says as he walks back to the dining room. “Trell, I’m always afraid of what he’ll do to you whenever you stand up to him like that,” aunt Amber whimpers. “I lost two sisters to him because of that. You’re all I have left and I don’t want to lose you.” “I know he doesn’t like me challenging him but he won’t hurt me. Besides, I see him for the wolf he is and he’s just an asshole. He abuses his power as Alpha. He manipulates women primarily and he uses extreme violence or threats to women and children to get superiority over other males. I have no children or a mate, so I’m not easily manipulated. Plus, I’m not afraid of him.” “He can be very scary,” Talia says. “Amber, we better finish breakfast.” “Yes. Trell, go on to the dining room. I have to do laundry after this. Breakfast will be served soon.” She kisses my cheek and returns to preparing breakfast. I walk into the dining room. My father and Luna Tiffany are sitting at the table. Trevor and his mate, Quentin join soon after. Quentin is a Vietnamese crossdresser and dad hates when he parades around as a woman named QT. He came to breakfast as QT and I can tell dad is fuming. I can barely contain my laughter. Zack and Aiyana follow shortly after with Beta Sterling and his wife Okwi. The Alpha and Beta families are now seated and Aunt Amber and Talia serve us breakfast. Talia serves my father and aunt Amber serves Beta Sterling. Sterling eyes her from head to toe and I can see her get uncomfortable. She always gets nervous around him. “Good morning, everyone,” QT says in her angelic voice. “Do you really have to walk around here like that,” dad asks with disgust. “A person should be able to express themselves,” I say. “You look amazing, QT.” “Thank you, Trell,” she smiles. “Don’t tell me you’re like your brother too.” “You speak as if he has some disease. There’s nothing wrong with Trevor or QT,” I say. It’s disgusting,” he says. “I don’t even want my breakfast anymore,” he says as he pushes his plate away. “Dad, stop being rude to my mate,” says Trevor. “We’re going to run this pack one day so there’s no need for all this attitude.” “Like hell you are! I’m not going to let you be Alpha with this hot mess as your mate!” “Hot mess,” QT questions. “Honey, I’m a diva and I will make a fine ass Luna!” “That’s right, you sure will my beautiful queen,” Trevor assures. “Don’t ever call me honey again,” dad chides. “You may be my son’s mate, but I am still your Alpha. Address me as such. Second, I won’t let no son of mine being bent over by another man–” “Darius,” Tiffany shouts. “Don’t interrupt me, Tiff,” dad snaps and slams his fist on the table. “I tolerate both of my sons, but I can’t take this man dressed as a woman bullshit. The only reason you weren’t banished Trevor is because you are my son and I love you.” “Do you really,” I ask him. “Because if you did, you’d accept him and his mate and stop complaining about it every waking minute that they are around you. Let me guess, it goes against your pack law stuff bullshit to have a male Luna.” “You watch your tone, Trell. It’s the pack law that has made this pack the strongest in the state!” “Is it? Or is it the fact that all the other packs are afraid of you? We have no allies‌. If another pack does anything for us, it’s out of fear; fear that you’ll do something devastating to their pack.” “As the Alpha, that’s what I’m supposed to do,” he arrogantly boasts. “You’re nothing more than a bully! That’s why my mother ran away. You killed her because you didn’t like the fact that she challenged you!” “Excuse you? You may be my son but you better take care with how you speak to me.” “Or what? You’re going to kill me like you did my mother and aunt Ruby?” I see his eyes turn orangish brown. He’s on the verge of letting Remy take control. Does he really think he can scare us, Zayn scoffs. He’s been trying to strike fear in me all my life. It worked until I hit puberty. I swear he is the complete opposite of what I want to be as a man. “Trell, you need to chill out,” Sterling admonishes. “Just because you are the Alpha’s son, you can’t go around being disrespectful. He is still your father and your Alpha.” “And just because you are the Beta, you can’t tell me what to do. I rank higher than you.” “You are a little sh.it,” he says as his eyes turn black. “Sterling, calm down. This is between father and son,” Okwi tells him. He gets up and storms out of the dining room. “You are just like your damn mother,” dad growls at me. “Better like her than you,” I snap at him. “Trell, I think we should take a hike,” Zachary says. There are only three people in the packhouse that truly knows me. That’s my brother, my best friend Zack, and aunt Amber. Zack knows I’m riled up and Zayn has been itching for me to shift but I refuse to be like my father and let my wolf control me. However, I’m not afraid to fight my father either. “Fine. I’ll say this before I go. Just go ahead and choose your successor. Pass the title on. It’s past time that you do. I’m twenty-six and Trevor is twenty-four. Both Trevor and I are of age so there’s no excuse,” I shout at him. “You need to get a mate first. Only then will I consider you as my successor. However, I would be going against the laws of this pack if I do let you succeed me.” “Like I said, that law is a bunch of bullshit. You know we are the only pack in the state with the law that the child of an Alpha can’t succeed him if they didn’t come from the Luna. Other packs can vote on whoever they want to be Alpha.” “Yet what pack is the biggest and strongest,” he boasts. “I’m going for a run,” I scoff as I take a few pieces of bacon and the omelet from my plate. Zachary follows me as well as Trevor. “Way to go Darius! We didn’t even get to enjoy breakfast like normal packs do,” I hear Tiffany shout at dad. “I swear the men of this pack have no sense!” “Shut the hell up Tiffany.” I head towards my room to grab a jacket to throw on. I’m probably going to sweat like crazy because my father already has my blood boiling. Hopefully, the cold of the snow will help cool me off. “Trell, wait up,” Zack calls. “Trell, it’s okay. Don’t even stress it. It’s not like I’m in any rush to become Alpha anyway. Becoming the Alpha to the biggest and most powerful pack of this state is something to not be taken lightly,” Trevor mocks. “I hate when he says that,” I laugh. “I do too. Honestly, I’m a mess and there’s too much expected of me.” “Sometimes I hate that I was born into this pack. I’m thankful for you little bro but our father is a bastard. You and your mate are fine just the way you are.” “Imagine how insane it would drive him if I acted like QT,” Trevor laughs. “He says he tolerates the fact that I’m gay because I’m his son but I don’t think so. Our father is a very prideful man.” “You think it’s because at first glance, you don’t look and talk gay that he tolerates you?” “Yeah, imagine if I didn’t have this husky voice or dress like a man. He’d go insane.” “The son of the strongest Alpha in the state of Washington acts like a woman. Yeah, that’s not a good look, especially since you’re the heir to the title,” I say. “It’s not fair. Truthfully, I don’t want to be Alpha. If I could get my way, I’d live in a cottage in the middle of the woods with Quentin. I’m not down with all this Alpha and leadership stuff but what choice do I have?” “Well, you might not want to be Alpha, but I’m ready to be Beta. Maybe then I can find my mate,” Zack adds. “Chicks dig the Betas especially when they are hot like me.” “The Alpha always runs the show though. Well dad did say if I get my mate, he’ll consider me, but he’s such a stickler about that stupid pack law. I don’t know if he meant it or not.” “He’s a d**k but he’s a man of his word. If he said he’ll consider you, then he will. I sure hope you find your mate soon so you can save me from a life of misery,” Trevor laughs. “Either of you going with me on this run,” I ask them. “I’ll go with you,” Zack replies. “I need a run myself. Mom and dad were arguing this morning and Yana and I heard it. Then Yana and I started arguing.” “Alright bet. I’ll just go grab a windbreaker.” I should’ve known that this morning was going to be hectic by the way dad stormed into the kitchen. More than anything I want to be the Alpha of this pack; not because we are the largest and the strongest but so that I can bring in a new era. It’s time to get rid of the bogus pack laws that shouldn’t even exist. Aunt Amber needs to be free, both her and Talia. They don’t deserve this life. If Trevor wants to live a quiet life with Quentin, he deserves it too. Trevor is right, he’s not really the alpha or leader type. It’s amazing that he didn’t turn out like our father. Trevor is very timid. Tiffany spoiled him much to dad’s dismay. I’m glad she did though because I love him and he’s a good kid. I walk into my room and grab my phone and jacket. I link with Zack to let him know I’m going to get a head start and that he should meet me near the pack cabin.
