Chapter 12: Meet Cute?

1210 Words
Checking on Kyle hadn’t been as bad as she thought it was going to be. They were there for barely 30 minutes and Kyle’s parents had already offered to pay the rest of her tuition and anything else she wanted. Of course Lochlyn told them that they didn't need to do that and kindly rejected their offer but she could tell by the look on their faces they weren’t going to take that no very well.  Her parents were back in their car waiting for her and here she was standing on the porch with Kyle. “Thanks again…” He said looking down at his shoes. Lochlyn smiled and shook her head.  “Anyone would have done it.” She told him. “Anyone who was in my position anyway…” She added with a small smile. He gave her a look. “ No they really wouldn’t but still I’m grateful to you.” Kyle reached up and placed his hand on my head. This gesture was supposed to be comforting but it made her feel like a child. We’re they in some drama? As much as she thought Kyle was a nice guy he was not exactly the male lead...or was he?  “Lochlyn?”  Maybe she had been trying at this whole thing all wrong. Was this a meet cute she didn’t realize? She was so wrapped up in her own thoughts she didn’t hear Kyle’s attempts at getting her attention. That was until he pulled the ends of her hair. “Lochlyn.” She jumped and looked up at him with wide eyes.  “There you are. I thought you had gone to sleep.” He said laughing.  “Sorry. Sorry. Again I’m just really glad you’re okay.” She told him taking a step back. “Thanks for saving me.” He smiled taking a step forward and placing a kiss on her cheek. “I’m sure I’ll see you around.” And with that she was staring at his back as he went back into his house.  What was going on?  She shook her head and went to her parents care. “Well I didn’t know you got yourself a boyfriend.” Her dad said when she slid into the backseat.  “I don’t know him that well at all dad. I met him today.” She said rolling her eyes. “Uh huh.” Her mother chimed in. Lochlyn groaned and pulled out her phone. What time do you want me to call? It was a text from John that made her smile. He was actually going to call her. Uh how about 10? They should be home from dinner at that point. At least Lochlyn hoped so.  Kay. Don’t be too upset having to wait ;)  Lochlyn knew she was blushing and wished that it was later in the evening so that she could hide her cheeks from her parents. Luckily for her they weren’t paying her any mind. Instead they were debating on where dinner should come from.  Everything went by in a blur. They pulled up to the restaurant, her dad cursed because they decided to go to one of their favorites during the middle of summer which meant a long wait. Though they got lucky and sat at the bar.  Holden: How’s Kyle? Lochlyn looked down and bit her lip before answering.  Good I guess, he seemed a bit….off but okay. She didn’t want to tell him that his friend was giving off major weird vibes. He’s fallen in love with you, watch out. ;) Lochlyn laughed and rolled her eyes. Her outburst caused her parents to stop their conversation and look at her like she had two heads. She waved them off and continued to type on her phone. Yeah...What’s the thing where people catch feelings for the person that saved them from potential death? Lochlyn took a sip of her drink and looked around the bar. It was crazy busy. She only knew a few people sitting around the bar and no one in the dining room. Though she knew most of the staff. A few of her high school friends gave her waves as they passed by.  I don’t know but that’s it for sure. I’ll let him down gently for you. Lochlyn rolled her eyes again. Thank you but I can reject or accept people’s feelings all on my own. She didn’t even know Kyle. She didn’t really blame him for thinking that this whole crazy event might be a start of something but...she had already started to give her heart to John. It’s not like Kyle was a bad guy but he wasn’t the guy she fell asleep thinking about.  Damn. What are you doing tonight?  Lochlyn smiled as Ms. Taylor, her high school english teacher took her plate of the bar. “I heard you had some excitement.” She said dumping the plate into a bin behind the bar. “Ms. Taylor….” She started but was quickly cut off. “I told you to call me Lisa.” The woman but her hand on her hips.  “Ms. Lisa. It was traumatic and I don’t want to talk about it.” Lochlyn said pouting her lips. “You always were one that kept your lips zipped.” Ms. Taylor joked and moved down to another person at the bar. Lochlyn picked her phone back up and sighed. I’ve got a phone date if you must know.  Did she really want to tell Holden this? Lochlyn sighed and finished her drink. Oh...anyone I know? How was she to know if he knew John? Lochlyn really didn’t feel like having those world mash together, at least not yet.  I don’t know. Maybe. I’ll talk to you later okay? That should end it. She shoved her phone in her pocket and started pestering her parents to leave. They got back not super late but late enough that she didn’t have much time before 10 to get herself ready. Why was she so nervous to make a phone call? It was normal...right? Lochlyn sat on her bed and stared at her phone until 10. When her phone started going off she nearly jumped for joy. Until she realized it wasn’t just a phone call but a video call.  This was not what she had prepared for. What was she going to do now? The phone was ringing and she wasn't answering it. He was going to think she didn't want to talk to him and that was the complete opposite. Oh damn it to hell. Was all she could think as she ran her fingers through her hair and sat up on her bed. She swiped to answer the phone and smiled.  "Well this was a surprise."
