Blurb

When Damian Blackwood returns to the fog-soaked town he escaped twelve years ago, he expects ghosts—just not a fresh one. His estranged father is found dead, labeled a suicide, but Damian knows the Blackwood men don’t go out quietly. Determined to uncover the truth, he steps back into a place that hates him, fears him, and whispers his name like a curse. The investigation leads him to Isadora Vale—a breathtaking, dangerously enigmatic woman tied to Blackwood in ways no one dares speak of. She’s the town’s forbidden mystery: too beautiful to trust, too secretive to ignore. The deeper Damian digs, the more he realizes she is connected to every path he follows… including the ones soaked in blood. Bodies begin to surface. Old secrets crawl out of the dark. And a masked figure watching Damian from the shadows makes it clear that his father’s death was only the beginning. Blackwood wants him back. Blackwood wants him broken. Blackwood wants him dead. Damian’s past returns with brutal force—fire, betrayal, and a legacy of darkness he can’t outrun. As desire for Isadora pulls him in and danger tightens its grip, one truth becomes painfully clear: In Blackwood, everyone lies. Everyone hides something. And trust is the most fatal mistake. When Isadora’s most guarded secret explodes into the open, Damian is forced to choose between the woman he can’t let go of… and the truth that could destroy them both. In a town ruled by shadows, Damian must face the lesson he tried to forget: Don’t trust anyone.

Chapter 1 : WARNING
“Life lesson number one: don’t trust anyone.” The text blinked on Damian Blackwood’s phone, each word more chilling than the last. He read it again, slowly, letting the warning sink in. “They’re watching. Don’t trust anyone, not even me.” Damian leaned back in his leather chair, the dim light of his apartment casting jagged shadows across the walls. Rain hammered against the windowpane like a frantic drumbeat. His gut tightened. The city always had eyes—but someone had crossed the line, stepping into his life with a precision that made him uneasy. He shoved the phone into his pocket and grabbed his coat. Tonight, he wasn’t just chasing stories—he was chasing a shadow. The alley was slick with rain and neon reflections, the city’s underbelly alive with whispers and danger. Damian’s instincts screamed at him—something wasn’t right. And then he saw her. A figure leaned against the brick wall, drenched, but calm. Black hair plastered to her face, eyes catching the light like shards of obsidian. “Damian Blackwood?” Her voice was smooth, soft, but carried an edge sharp enough to cut. He studied her. She looked like trouble—beautiful, yes, but the kind that brought chaos. “Who’s asking?” he said, cautious, hand brushing the grip of his concealed pistol. “My name… is Isadora Vale. And I’m the only one who can help you tonight.” Damian’s brow arched. “Help me? With what?” She stepped closer, the scent of rain and something intoxicating trailing her. “With the murders. The ones no one else dares to solve. The ones… that are closer than you think.” He laughed, bitter and low. “You mean my sister?” Selene’s name tasted like ash in his mouth. “You have information on her death?” Isadora didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she handed him a small envelope, black with a single blood-red wax seal. “Open it when you’re alone. And Damian…” Her voice dropped to a whisper, almost drowned by the city’s pulse, “don’t trust me.” Before he could respond, she vanished. Just like that. The wet night swallowed her, leaving nothing but the echo of her warning. Damian stared at the envelope in his hand, heart hammering. He didn’t trust anyone—but tonight, curiosity outweighed caution. He tore it open. Inside were photographs: scenes of murder, twisted and brutal, all eerily familiar. And then, a note written in neat, precise handwriting: “Follow the shadows. Or they’ll follow you first.” A shiver ran down his spine. The game had begun. And Damian Blackwood knew, with a sinking certainty, that from this moment on… no one was to be trusted. -Damian closed the envelope, the weight of its message sinking deeper than the rain-soaked night around him. The city hummed in his ears, but his mind was already drifting into darker territory—places he thought he’d buried. “Funny,” he murmured under his breath, jaw tightening. “All my life I’ve been warned not to trust anyone… but the truth is, I stopped trusting myself first.” His reflection glimmered faintly in a puddle at his feet—distant, fractured, and unfamiliar. “Maybe that’s why the shadows keep finding me,” he thought coldly. “Maybe they see what I refuse to admit… that I’m one of them.” With the photos burning in his grip and the night closing in, Damian turned away from the alley, a hard breath escaping him. “Life lesson number one,” he whispered, voice low and edged with something darker, “don’t trust anyone. Not the city… not her… not even me.” And for the first time tonight, the warning didn’t feel like a threat. It felt like the truth.-
