A Princess is Born
War was coming. The Alpha King and Luna Queen both knew it. Ever since their daughter was born, they'd received threats from other kingdoms. They led the Western Kingdom and were currently stronger than the rest. The reason for the threats wasn't due to her birth; it was due to her hair color at birth. The princess was born with pure white hair, the sign of a guardian wolf. Guardian wolves were rare and treasured in the supernatural world. The King and Queen knew that if the wrong person were to get their hands on their daughter, all would be doomed. As the Alpha King and Luna Queen, they not only ruled over the Western Kingdom; they ruled over the entire North American continent. The other three kingdoms served under the Alpha King and Luna Queen, but they were all constantly looking to overthrow the Western Kingdom and become the most powerful on the continent. After several weeks, the threats became too great and the King and Queen felt the need for drastic measures to protect their daughter. One night, after the entire castle had gone to bed, they called their most trusted of the Royal Elite Guards: the Luna Queen's brother. The knock came about ten minutes later. The Alpha King opened the door to find his brother-in-law waiting outside. "Your Majesty," he said, bowing to his King. "Rise and enter, please," the King said. The guard entered the room, shutting the door behind him. "Is everything alright?" he asked, seeing the looks of concern on both his sister's and her mate's faces. Both sighed before the King answered. "I'm sorry to say that no, it's not alright," the King said. "Demetrius, our daughter's safety is at risk." "Because of her hair?" Demetrius asked. The King just nodded. "They all want her for whatever powers she may wield when she comes of age," Demetrius realized, remembering the myths of the Guardian wolves. "Yes, that's exactly what they want," the King agreed. "I will not allow my baby girl to be subjected to any kind of horrors our enemies may put her through. I won't allow her to be used." "Understood, Your Majesty, so what do you suggest?" Demetrius asked. The King and Queen shared a brief look before the King laid out his plan. "Will your mate be on board?" Demetrius nodded his head. Della couldn't have pups, so they didn't have a family to worry about. He also knew Della loved their niece just as much as he did and would do anything to protect her. "Good, you will leave tomorrow night, after everyone else has gone to bed," the King told Demetrius before dismissing him. "I hope we're doing the right thing," the Luna Queen spoke for the first time, tears rolling down her cheeks. He pulled his mate in and hugged her close, comforting both of them. The following evening, Demetrius and Della had their van packed with clothes and essentials for themselves and their infant niece. Just as planned, the King and Queen met Demetrius in the royal private parking garage. The King handed Demetrius an envelope. "These are all the papers you will need to hide your true identity. All the details you need are also here. Do you both have everything else you need?" "Yes, Your Majesty," Della replied. "Please, let's drop the formalities," the King said. "Not only are we family, but you two are sacrificing everything for our daughter." "We would do anything to protect our niece, Henry," Della said. "We love her with all of our hearts. We are honored that you chose us for this mission." "Della, Demetrius is my brother, and you are my sister-in-law," the Queen said. "I wouldn't trust anyone else with our daughter." "Thank you, Ophelia," Della said, with tears in her eyes. "We promise to protect her with our lives." Henry and Ophelia hugged their baby daughter one last time, kissing her plump, rosy cheeks. "We hate doing this baby girl, but this is the only way to protect you," Ophelia said. "I hope when you learn the truth that you will understand and forgive us." After Henry kissed his baby girl, Ophelia handed her to Della. "Please, when she's older and knows the truth, tell her how much we love her, and we truly hope to meet her again one day." The couples finished saying goodbye before Della strapped her niece into the car-seat. Then she and Demetrius got into the car and said goodbye to their home, their family and their kingdom. It would be a long time before they would return. A week later, the news came out; the infant princess was gone. Representatives for the royal couple made a statement giving SIDS as the cause. The entire kingdom was shocked. The other three kingdoms were not just shocked; they were p*ssed off. All of their plans were ruined now that the princess had died. The three kingdoms decided to bide their time and wait for another opportunity. One way or another, they were going to get rid of Alpha King Henry and his Luna Queen, Ophelia. On the other side of the world, in Western Australia, a couple was getting off a plane with a small baby in a car-seat. They were dressed poorly and the woman's hair was disheveled. They went into the terminal to wait for their luggage. When their bags arrived, they looked just as shabby as the couple's clothes. Anyone looking at them just knew they came from poverty. How they came here on an airplane? Well, that was one mystery no one would be able to solve. Once the couple had their bags, they made their way outside. They were going to a shifter orphanage just outside of Menzies, Australia. They were hoping to work for room and board and have help with the baby they brought with them. There was a short, stout man standing next to a car holding a sign. The couple recognized their names on the sign and made their way over to the man. After loading their luggage and strapping in the car-seat, as well as themselves, the driver took off. Their drive took almost three hours. Thankfully, the baby slept the entire time. The car came to a stop in front of a very large, old Victorian house. From looking at it, you could tell it was well-kept, as were the grounds around the house. One would never be able to guess that this building housed orphaned pups with nowhere else to go. The couple only hoped the inside looked as well-kept as the outside. The driver helped the man take their luggage out while the woman handled the baby. When they were done, the driver wished them well before taking off. The couple grabbed their luggage and walked up the stairs to the front door. They rang the bell, hearing the chime echo on the other side of the door. After a few minutes, they heard footsteps and the door was opened by an older gentleman with a pleasant smile. "How can I help you folks?" he said, surprising them with his accent. "Good afternoon, sir, we are here to see the director of the home," the man replied. "I take it you're the folks he's waiting for?" the older gentleman asked. The younger man just nodded. "Well, just come on in now and have a seat in the parlor," the older man said. "I'll go fetch the director. In the meantime, would you like any drinks or refreshments?" The couple asked for lemonade and the older man nodded before leaving the room. A few minutes later, a young girl, about 14, came in carrying two glasses of lemonade. She placed them down and the couple thanked her before she left the room. Although it seemed like forever, it was only about five minutes before a tall, distinguished looking gentleman walked into the room, followed by a woman who was much shorter, but looked about the same age. "Good afternoon, and welcome," the man said. "I am Donavan, the director, and this is our head mistress, Vivian." "It's a pleasure to meet you both," the younger man said. "I'm-" "I know who you are, both of you," Donavan said. "Alpha King Henry has informed me of this delicate situation." "Pardon?" the younger man asked. "I am a distant relative of the King," Donavan began. "I grew up with his father and I watched Henry himself grow up. We've always been very close, which is why he's trusted me with this task." "I promise you, no harm will come to the princess," Vivian said. "She will be very well protected here, and her identity will remain a secret as long as needed. However, she will not receive special treatment, nor will either of you." "We understand," Della said. "It's necessary to hide our identities." "Exactly," Vivian said, smiling gently. "She will still be treated well, just as all the pups do in our facility." "Do any of the pups here ever get adopted?" Della asked, her voice laced with concern. "Absolutely," Donavan answered. "However, this little one here will not be available for adoption. She will stay with the two of you in your wing until she is old enough for her own room." "And as she gets older, she'll start doing chores, but only what she can handle," Vivian said. "Since you are posing as an omega couple, she'll be treated as an omega as well." Della and Demetrius both agreed to the terms laid before them. No matter what they were dealt, they would face it together.
