Chapter 7

[Alpha Benson] "Dr. Chris, you have been this pack's doctor since your father retired two years ago. I know you are not the one who helped my rejected mate, Emma Collins, deliver her child—who happens to be my daughter. But after what Emma did to me, I do not find her fit to return to the sacred palace or to become my Luna. That calls for our separation. But I want a DNA test done on Celine to confirm if she is truly my daughter or if she belongs to someone else. You know…" I trailed off, refusing to mention my father or brother's name here. Dr. Chris looked at me thoughtfully. Everyone in the pack already knew I had rejected Emma and sent her away. She remained indoors, and this all happened last month. I would not go back or welcome her to the palace. "Mmm. Okay, Alpha. We can perform the DNA test and invite Emma and your child, Celine, to the hospital," Dr. Chris said, and I nodded. "I will need a blood sample to confirm if Celine is my blood," I said, my eyes watching Dr. Chris as he nodded. "You have nothing to worry about, Alpha Benson. I will send my assistant or one of the nurses to deliver the invitation to Emma's father's house today," Dr. Chris assured me, and I stood to leave his office, painted white and featuring anatomical diagrams of various humans and animals, especially wolves. "Alright. I will take my leave now," I told Dr. Chris, and he stood and escorted me out. "Alpha, would you like to see the foreigners brought in injured? One is from the Bright Moon Pack and claims to be the Alpha's first daughter, though I have not confirmed that yet. But she is an alpha wolf. The second is from the Dark Moon pack—a man, an Omega. And the last is a woman from the Shadow pack," he concluded. "All three are awake except for the last one, who has yet to reveal her pack. That makes three women and a man," Dr. Chris told me as I watched pack members flow in and out of the hospital lobby for treatment. They greeted me upon entering, but my focus shifted back to Dr. Chris. "I would like to see them. But I have a business meeting with the neighbouring pack. Dennis will retrieve them as soon as he returns from his assignments. I must go, and don't forget what we discussed," I told Dr. Chris, who replied, "Understood, Alpha." I strode away from the hospital lobby and exited the hospital. As I walked toward my car parked on the hospital grounds, I felt a pair of eyes watching me. Taking a swift glance backward, I looked at the hospital room window left ajar and saw enchanting blue eyes and a beautiful, short woman standing there. As soon as her eyes locked with mine, she moved swiftly away from the open window and hid. My brows furrowed. Odin rose and muttered, "She is the one, Alpha. She is our mate." My wolf surged with excitement after days of shutting me out following my rejection of Emma. "Mmm," I sighed and glanced at the open window once more, hoping the lady would peek out. She did not. "Is she Alpha Bruce's daughter of the Bright Moon Pack Dr. Chris mentioned? No way," I muttered, unlocked my car door, and got in. "Maybe she is the one. But she is mine," Odin said. I shook my head and told him, "Don't get too excited. Who knows if she is a nymph like Emma? You should wonder why her father banished her. Alpha Bruce is disciplined, and I am certain she must have done something grave for her father to send her away. So don't get too excited about her." I warned Odin, and he calmed down and shut me out again. I sighed and focused my attention on the road as I drove back to my office. Where I welcomed other pack Alphas there to form partnerships and discuss matters affecting our pack. The wars among the top packs had ended after we reached a business agreement. But the upcoming packs remained vulnerable; their lands faced constant threat. They stayed on high alert for invasions or intruders entering their territory. I kept my gaze on the road, and a few minutes later, I arrived at the company gate. The warriors stationed there pulled the gate open and welcomed me. "Welcome, Alpha," the two warriors said. "Thank you." I drove my car onto the company grounds and parked. As I got out, I saw Beta Andrew had arrived too. However, he was not alone. He arrived with a young man who resembled him—his son, I assumed. Ace Lennox. I hadn't met Ace, but I've heard many stories about him. I knew he had heard about me too. I heard Alpha Bruce believed in sending Ace to destroy poorer packs and wage wars against them. "Welcome, Alpha Benson. We arrived about thirty minutes ago and were told to await your arrival," Beta Andrew said as he walked up to shake hands with me. However, Ace stood with a strict look on his face and a narrowed expression. He seethed with rage and struggled to control it as his gaze swept over me. "Ace, won't you greet Alpha Benson? He is the new Alpha of this pack. Go on and submit to him," Beta Andrew said, but Ace looked away and replied, "Father, I am the next Alpha of the Bright Moon Pack. You do not expect me to bow to any other werewolf." "Mmm, what arrogance," I muttered, and Ace glared at me. "Forgive him, Alpha Benson. Ace is still learning the Alpha's training and business strategies. Please overlook his rudeness. Ace." Beta Andrew turned to face his son. "What has come over you?" he asked Ace, who sniffed the air as if tracking a scent. His brown eyes glowed as he moved toward me and sniffed my shirt, right in front of my company. He did not care to submit or bow. He grabbed my shirt and muttered, "Why do you smell so much like Mallory?" "Mallory?" I raised my eyebrows and wondered who he meant. "ACE!" Beta Andrew marched up to us and smacked Ace on the back of his head. "Are you crazy? How dare you speak of Mallory here? She is your rejected mate, and you are forbidden to mention her. Besides, she is dead. We heard wild animals ate her," Beta Andrew shouted, and Ace's gaze fell. "I am sorry, Father. I got carried away. Forgive me, Alpha Benson." Ace released my brown shirt and stepped back. I looked at him and sighed. "Don't let this happen again. Otherwise, I will sever my pack's partnership with yours." "Thank you, Alpha Benson," Beta Andrew said, but I left them and walked into my company's building. The staff on the first floor welcomed me as I made my way to the elevator and rode up to my office on the fifth floor.
