ONE: THE HEIRESS
YZIELLE HERA RODEO' POV "Five hundred thousand pesos in just one day?!" Aunt Loisa's voice echoed throughout the dining area. She even held his forehead, while one of her hands held the receipt of my black card transactions. I took a seat and then took a hot dog served on the table. I took a bite first before turning to her. "Is it too little, aunt?" She looked at me seriously. "Did you buy a property to spend this much?" She tried not to scream again. But I can see her annoyance. The paper she is holding now is almost crumpled. "Aunty, half a million is not enough for a property." "Then tell me where you spent this much money!" She couldn't stop herself from screaming. "I fed the stray dogs," I replied directly. Her forehead was wrinkled. "What? Did you feed what?" "Street dogs." "You spent half a million on street dogs?" She couldn't believe it. "Aunty you're exaggerating. Just chill..." I drank some juice first. "It's only a small amount for us. We have companies, hundreds of properties, different businesses. The last time I checked we have a hundred millions— No, I think billions are now in the bank. So don't scold me anymore." "That's why you're just going to waste money on useless things? The last time you spent, you reached seven digits in just one day. Then now... you spent five hundred thousand just for street dogs!" His tendon just barely came out from screaming. "Why aunty? Is there something wrong with what I did? I just fed the dogs on the street, what's wrong with that?" She gasped. "Did you gain anything from what you did, huh?" I smiled. "Feeding street dogs is an investment." "Investment? What are you talking about? Are you kidding me?" She rolled her eyes at me. "It feels good to feed stray dogs. I even plan to do it again. Maybe, next week?" I'm not teasing. I am serious. "Are those animals going to help you?" she asked in disgust. "Auntie, even if it's a street dog, or even if it's a wolf dog.. They deserve to be loved. You should be proud of me because I spent the money for a good cause." "Oh my god! I can't believe this. I keep wondering how you became my brother's daughter. You are so stubborn. You don't know how to listen—" "When we were kids, he never gave our parents a headache. He was everyone's favorite. He was good at everything and blah, blah, blah." I continued what she was going to say. "I already memorized that, aunt," I added. She is so consistent that she scolds me every time she comes home from another country. "If your parents were still alive, do you think they would be happy with what you do?" Here we go again! I really hate that when our argument goes to that. I let out a sigh first. "Why are you always mad at me? Aren't you tired of yelling? Your stressing yourself, it can cause wrinkles." She put her hand on her waist while facing me. "Because you didn't do anything right! You're just giving me a headache. You don't even take your studies seriously. Then you're going to ask me why I'm always mad at you?" "Because what you see is just my mistake." I'm only looking at my food. "Because you're not doing anything right." I grinned. "I'm very sorry if that's the case." "Your parents are gone..." I even heard her sigh. "I sacrificed many things just to take care of those they left behind.. The company. You are the one who will benefit when the day comes. But you? You only think about yourself. You do everything you want, without thinking of others." I couldn't stop myself anymore. I closed my eyes in annoyance. I looked at my aunt seriously. "Is it wrong to feed street dogs? Or you're just using that as an excuse to lecture again. You're always annoyed with me." "Who would be happy? You just spent half a million in one day— No! For god sake.. in just fourteen hours?!" "So? It's only half a million. That's small compared to what I used to spend before." "That's not the point. I want you to learn how to spend properly. Because you.. Whatever you want to buy, you buy. When you think of something to do, you do it. You don't think about it carefully!" "You said before that I should buy what I want. I should do whatever I can think of. Then now, you're going to be angry? What's the use of the money if I'm not going to spend it." “Can you stop acting like a spoiled brat? Grow up, Yzielle!” "I am late. I need to go." I didn't wait my aunt answer. I grabbed my bag then left the dining area. Our argument will never end if I don't leave. It's obvious that she's just using that reason to lecture me. I went straight to the garage and got into my car. I arrived at the university in just a few minutes. I just parked then went straight to the quadrangle. I haven't gotten to the middle of it yet, but I can already see another person who is about to test my patience. "Look who's here... My fake ex-best friend." Madisson blocked my way, with her little minions. They both look at me badly. My eyeballs rolled around. "Please Madisson? If you're going to argue with me, get out of my face. I'm not in the mood, okay? Don't add to my annoyance." I said straight away. She laughed sarcastically. "You're in a bad mood? You're in a bad mood because of what you did?" "What is your problem?" I snort at her. "You are my problem!" She even pointed her finger at me. "How dare you spread to the entire university that I dated our professor last year!" She was trying not to raise her voice, but it was obvious in her voice that she was angry because of me. My forehead was wrinkled. "What?" "You're the only person I told that secret of mine." "So you're accusing me?" "Come on! Please don't deny that? Show your true colors. That's why we fought, because you are so fake!" "You still can't move on, that's why you're acting like this, right?" I smirk. She seems to be stuck with what I said. "Excuse me? Who are you so that I can't move on from you? You're just a fake friend." "Why are you barking so early in the morning?" "Because you spilled my secret! That I used to date our professor!" she yelled at me. I crossed my arms. "Do you have proof?" "Only the two of us know about that! I only told you that!" She was shivering in annoyance. The students who were passing by were already looking at us. Because this girl is making a scene. "How sure are you?" I asked in a boring voice. I don't want to waste my energy because the person I'm talking to now is nonsense. "Just admit it!" It's obvious to her that she wants to hurt me. I looked into her eyes seriously. "Why should I admit it? It wasn't me who did it. With as much as I know about you, why would I spread that? If it was me..." I approached her. I pressed my mouth to her ear. "I will spread even worse. It's your secret that you don't have a face to show to our schoolmates," I threatened her. But of course that's just a joke. As much as I want to slap her, I won't do that. I just want to scare her. I was not wrong. Because her eyes got bigger. It was as if she was nervous about what I said. “H-how dare—” "Hera is there a problem?" Madisson didn't finish what she was going to say when Triana suddenly arrived. She is my friend. Because since Madisson and I had a fight, she's the one who's always been there for me. I like about her is she's nice. Long patience. She can put up with me being mean sometimes, especially when I'm not in the mood. She can also be trusted in many things. "It's nothing. She's just barking up the wrong tree," I replied. I looked at Madison first and then smiled at her before I left in front of her. Triana was just following me. Until she was next to me. "Are you all right?" she asks. I nodded my head. "Of course." "Is Madison messing with you?" "She thought it was me who spread her dirty little secret." I want to laugh at the way he looked before. Why would I do that? Will I get any benefits if I do that? I even prefer that our paths never meet. "That she dated your professor last year?" I turned to her. "How did you know that?" "I heard from another student I passed by." I laughed. "That's why she wanted to hurt me earlier because she was so mad at me." Even though our university is prestigious, many students are gossipers. Poor Madison, she is now the breakfast of the students here. "Are you the one who spread it?" she asked me in a whisper. I grinned. "Yes, but let's keep it a secret." Her eyes widened. I want to laugh because of her reaction now. "Just kidding. I have a bad attitude sometimes, but I won't do that. I don't have reason to do that." She seemed to believe that I wasn't the one who did it. Triana and I are in the same class. We were about to go to our room when we met Mr. Perez. "Can I speak to you Ms. Rodeo." "Yes sir. Perez?" "Didn't you take the quiz yesterday? I haven't recorded your score." I was surprised. "I came in yesterday." I turned towards Triana. "You even passed our paper, didn't you?" She nodded quickly. "Hera is right, Sir. I handed in our paper yesterday." "I checked your paper Ms. Cadenza, but Ms. Rodeo's paper is not there," Sir replied. "But I passed her paper." Sir. Perez look at me. "Don't worry, I will give you another chance Ms. Rodeo. Go to my office after our class tomorrow." "Can't we do it now, Sir?" I asked. "I'm busy today." "Okay, Sir. Thank you." "Okay, see you tomorrow." "I really passed our paper, promise..." I smiled at Triana. "Let it go. Maybe Sir just misplaced it." We went straight to our room. It's still early so our prof is not here yet. There are only a few of us students here. "Your lover is here," Triana whispered teasingly to me. I turned to the door where Oliver was standing now. He was holding a flower while smiling widely. I just looked at her and then looked back at the front. I even saw in my peripheral vision that she was getting closer to our seat. "Flowers for you, Hera." She handed me the flower but I didn't accept it. We have the attention of our classmates as well. Especially those girls who like the man in front of me right now. I gave him a bad look. "You're really stubborn, aren't you? Are you really annoying me? I'm not going to flirt with you, so stop being like that." I purposely raised my voice. "I'm courting you," he said authoritatively. "I didn't agree to be courted by you." "I don't take 'no' for an answer either." I just stared at the thickness of this man's face. I closed my eyes in irritation. "Could you please stop Oliver? Just flirt with Madisson so she'll stop messing with me. You two are perfect for each other, you're both annoying." Madison has had a crush on Oliver for a long time. That's why that girl hates me so much. He takes my hand. "But you're the one I want..." He even winked at me. I quickly took my hand back. "You're just horny." "What? I've been courting you for several months, isn't that enough to prove that my feelings for you are true?" I winced. "Oh my god! You're giving me goosebumps. Get out Oliver. Get out!" He scratched his head and smiled. "First accept this flower." I grabbed the flower with a bang. "Is that okay? I accepted it. You can leave," I said seriously. "I'm happy with that. Remember this, Hera... I won't stop pursuing you. I know you like me too," he confidently answered before leaving our classroom. "He is so unbelievable," I whispered shaking my head. "Don't you really like him?" Triana asked me. "Isn't that obvious?" "You're very lucky." I smiled. "I know." I handed the flower to her. "That's yours. I don't like that." "But he gave it to you.." "Just think it was given to you." I winked at her. "M-maybe he'll be angry?" I laughed. "You like him, don't you?" She suddenly blushed. I wont be surprised. Oliver is also popular in the university so many girls like him. Except for me, never! That man is so arrogant. I'd rather be in love with a wolf than be with him.
