I haven’t been home since Christmas but Jeanne's wedding was here and I had to go to Maine for two weeks. I was thinking again of a way to put another nail in Jager's coffin; get him to come to Maine with me for the wedding. He would not question anything if I take him to Maine to meet my family. I was a different person in Maine than what they see in Boston. So I called my parents and they were fine with me bringing Jager to Maine. We had a spare room in the house he could sleep there and my Dad could not wait to grill him. Just because I was not blood I was still his little girl. Bruce couldn’t wait to give him if you hurt my little sister speech.
I had a lawyer in Bangor looking in Abbot Harbor for a house to buy for my sister and her fiancé for a wedding gift. The Weymouth house was for sale a beautiful four-bedroom two-story house. It was fifty thousand dollars. I told the lawyer to put the bid in. My sister had to have this house at any cost and I would have the money to him by end of business tomorrow. Now all I had to do was find Hope.
Hope was in the foyer reading the business section of the wall street journal. For some reason, she will not leave there until I come down. Really no one sits in the foyer. Hope may have been soft in her real life but in business, she was a shark. I almost felt a bit bad for her. But Hope and I had become close since I moved to Boston. I did truly love Hope she became my best friend and in a way my conscience. Trying to be my mother steering me right from wrong, of course, I was a teenager and still pushed her buttons but we truly did understand each other.
“Mother.” I leaned in and kissed her forehead.
“How are you my darling? You are up early for school this morning.” Hope inquired.
“ I need something from you mother,” I stated.
“ What is wrong and what can I do to help?” Hope asked.
“ I need fifty thousand dollars,” I told her.
“What do you need fifty thousand dollars for? Are you in trouble?” Hope asked with concern.
“No mother. As you know my sister is getting married in three weeks and I want to buy them the Weymouth house for a wedding present.” I informed my mother.
“ Jessica Michaela money doesn’t grow on trees, why would I give you fifty thousand dollars for that.” My mother snapped.
“Mother you were pregnant with me in that house, those people took in your daughter when you dropped her off like trash at their doorstep. That is why you will give me fifty thousand dollars to buy that house for their daughter. For looking after yours for fifteen years before you decide to tear their world apart.” I explained to Hope.
“Will I pay for that forever? No, I will not.” Hope was furious.
So now I had to lay on the guilt “Ellie and Jim turned their world upside down for you and look how you have repaid them so far. You took me from them without any care of what it would do to them.” I screamed at Hope.
“I am grateful for what they did but it's over and you are here and that’s that. I paid for the wedding I am not paying for a house.” Hope shouted back at me.
“ Really I paid for the wedding, don’t forget it. It is my money, not yours, you are in trust. My father left it to me and one word to my grandfather Harper and it will all be mine. Harper Mark, the wrestling business, this house, you name it and it is mine.” I exclaimed at Hope. “ I will just go call Grandfather.”
Morgan walked into the room “You will not.” Morgan decreed. “ We will take the money out of your trust and buy this house for your sister for her wedding. Do not worry my darling the Davis will have the best of the best, they looked after you for fifteen years and you have become a remarkable woman. Just give me the details and I will have the money for you.”
“Thank you, Grandfather.” I smiled at him and gave him the name of the lawyer he needed to send the money to. “He has to have it before the end of business today.”
“Your mother and I will go to the bank as soon as it opens I promise you my darling.” Morgan smiled and kissed my forehead “don’t you worry.”
I went up to finish getting ready for school. As I walked away I could hear my grandfather screaming at my mother “What the hell are you doing, she call Harper and destroys us. Do you want to go back to living in a two-bedroom apartment we worked hard to get where we are and I am not going back there because you are jealous of something you created? Are you insane? Get ready we will be at the bank at ten.” Morgan was irate.
I actually could smile at Hope and Morgan fighting, I could use this to my advantage. I have to figure out how though. I already had leverage with the Harper mark money but if I have in fighting I can bring down the family before the business. Make it ripe for a takeover, huh that could work; well I will make it work.
I got ready Steve and I got in the car and went to school. I could not concentrate on school I could only think about the events of the morning and knowing Morgan he would double-cross me. Before I knew it, it was three o’clock. Jager wanted to walk home but I told him I had to get home right away and I would come over to his place after I made sure the deal was done; we kissed and I went to the car. I got home and called my lawyer in Bangor everything was a go, my lawyer even assured me there was no loophole that the Tracys could take back the house. Morgan came in while I was on the phone. I thanked my lawyer and hung up the phone.
“It is done, I hope your sister enjoys the house,” Morgan said.
“This is a little too easy Grandfather,” I replied.
“Considering your idea made me that much already, just think of it as payment for your idea, we start Saturday morning in the 11 am time slot. The network loved the idea and signed on after a little persuasion.” Morgan told me.
“Really they loved it. That’s great.” I relayed to my grandfather, thinking about how did he sell that.
“They loved the kids' hero angle and hoped they can draw the same ratings as the Saturday night draw. I think we are on the way to the top.” Morgan was elated.
“That’s great. Well, I have to go meet Jager. I guess you and Allan have a lot of work to do; I will leave you to it. Oh and do not wait for me for dinner I am having dinner at the Bourque’s” I stated and kissed my grandfather on the forehead and left the room.
William got the car and brought me over to Jager’s. As I walked inside the door the smells were so good, it reminded me of Maine. No one waiting on you, no cooks making a hundred different for different tastes; just good homemade cooking.
“Good afternoon Jessica. How are you today?” Eloise said in her sweet voice and her French accent.
“I am good. The food smells delicious.” I replied to her in French.
“How was school? Is my boy behaving himself? I know how he likes to misbehave.” She spoke back in French.
“If you are going to talk about me please do it in English so I can defend myself,” Jager remarked.
“Oh Mon amour, it’s all good, we would never speak ill of you,” I replied to him as I walked over and kissed him.
Jager turned all red because I kissed him in front of his mom. “Jess!”
“Oh my precious boy, you are so bashful.” Eloise laughed and pinched his cheek. “Oh, Jessica it does my heart good to see how much you love my son. I knew you to loved each other from the moment I saw you two together.” Eloise spoke to me in French.
“Yes, I do love him,” I replied to her in French.
“Enough of you two speaking in French.” Jager was starting to get upset.
“Okay, you two go watch some TV or something dinner will be about a half hour,” Eloise said.
“Are you sure you don’t need some help?” I offered Eloise.
“No Mon Cheri you to go do whatever young love does. I will be fine.” Eloise insisted.
Jager grabbed me by the arm. “Let’s leave Mom to her cooking I need you to help me pack for Maine.”
Jager's house was huge a big spiral oak staircase, well obviously he lived 5 blocks from the Tracy house. Which I could not understand, Eloise did not work but they had lived in the riches areas of Boston. She didn’t win that kind of money at bingo. I mean she loved bingo, but you can’t make mortgage payments out of bingo winnings. I mean it wasn’t as big as the Tracy house but it was a huge two-story four-bedroom house.
We went upstairs into Jager's room, he pulled me in, kissed me and then put that half smirk on his face.
“Why aren’t you blushing now?” I chuckled.
“Well you kissed me in front of my mother, what did you expect? What would you do if I kissed you in front of Morgan?” Jager said.
“I would like that the old man would probably have a stroke. That would be great.” I giggled. “Why do you need me to help you pack, Maine weather is not much different than Boston.”
“I don’t I just wanted some alone time with you. I know we won’t get much alone time in Maine.” He said as he leaned in and kissed me again and again and a little more.
“Jean Philippe, dinner is ready,” Eloise called out.
“We will be right down Mom,” Jager called back then he looked at me. “God my mother has bad timing.”
I smiled back at him “Come on let's go.”
We went downstairs and had dinner, I truly was like in Maine the Tracy’s have dinner at 7. Eloise has dinner on the table at 5, in Maine, if you are not home at five then you eat your dinner cold. Eloise had made roast beef that melted in your mouth and this baby carrot and potato mix that was to die for, it was so good. We chatted over dinner and talked a lot about Maine about my sisters' wedding. We were leaving in a couple of days, and Eloise went on and on about how she was going to miss her boy for two weeks.
After dinner, I picked up the dishes off the table Eloise spoke “You do not need to do that I will do that.”
“Where I am from the cook does not clean JP and I will clean up, you go get ready for your bingo game.” I insisted.
“You are such a sweet girl. Jean Philippe do not mess this up with her.” Eloise smiled and kissed me and Jager on the cheek, went upstairs to get ready for her bingo game.
“You volunteered us for dish duty?” Jager moaned.
“You better get used to it; there will be a lot of that the two weeks in Maine.” I chuckled and flicked dish soap bubbles at him.
“Oh really.” As he flicked dish bubbles back at me again.
We started to flick water and bubbles at each other laughing, of course, I was winning, and then he put his arms around me and wiped the water and soap off my face; put that half smirk on and kissed me.
“I guess it will be a good two weeks then,” Jager replied.
“We need to get this cleaned up before your mother comes downstairs. We have more mess than we started with.” I informed him “If we were finished by the time your mother leaves we can pick up where we left off before dinner.”
“Well then start cleaning,” Jager demanded.
Eloise came downstairs and we were finishing up the dishes. “Thank you everything is all cleaned, see Jean Philippe you can learn a lot from her.”
“Thank you Eloise and by the way, you look beautiful this evening,” I told her.
“Why thank you my darling.” Eloise Blushed.
“Yeah, Mom aren’t you a little done up for bingo,” Jager said.
I gave Jager a love tap. “Do not listen to him you are beautiful.”
Eloise smiled at me, kissed Jager and I on the cheek and said to Jager. “Make sure Jessica gets home safely.”
“Yes Mom, have fun, don’t be too late. I love you, Mom.” Jager told his mother.
Eloise lit up “Mama loves you too.” And went out the door.
Jager looked at me and said, “I thought she would never leave, wait you don’t think she was a little too done up for bingo.”
“Do you really want to talk about how your mother looked?” I c****d my eyebrows at him.
“Not really.” As Jager grabbed the belt loops on my jeans and pulled me close, and started kissing me. Then he looked at me with that half-smirk. “You want to go finish packing.”
I grabbed him by the hand and we went upstairs and made out for a little bit till I looked at the time it was eight o’clock. I pulled back and said “I hate to end this but it’s eight and I have to get home I have homework and I actually you have to pack.
“Oh, I hate when you are right. Come on I’ll drive you home.” Jager sighed.
We got ready and Jager drove me home, got out of the car walked me to the door and kissed me goodnight. Got back into the car and drove away.
I got into the house and Hope was waiting for me. “Please come into the study we need to talk.” We walked into the study “I am sorry for this morning; I understand what it is to have money and want to help your family with it. I hope Jeanne likes the house. I have a lot of good memories in that house and I think that is why I got angry this morning.”
“That’s fine Mother believe it or not I understand. Thank you for sending the money; I don’t think you know how much that truly does mean to me. The Davis’s mean the world to me. I understand why you did what you did but they were the ones who were there for me my whole life. Whatever I can do for them I will.” I relayed this to Hope.
“I understand Ellie and Jim did a great job of raising you. Whatever I can do for them I will. It is just sometimes I get jealous of the bond you have with them and I lash out. I know it was my own doing but it’s hard to cope with at times.” Hope explained. “Anyway call JP you are leaving tomorrow after school instead of Friday.”
“Okay. Does Grandfather know?” I inquired.
“I’m not sure where your grandfather is but the pilot knows and you are good to go after school,” Hope answered.
I called Jager and told him we were leaving tomorrow instead of Friday. I was happy to be getting back to Maine faster. Called Ellie and told her we would be there a day early, and she was happy. I did my homework and went to bed very happy.
I got up and made sure I had to make sure I had everything I was going home for two weeks, I missed Maine and I miss the person I was in Maine. I can’t say I was naive but life was simpler. I wasn’t as hateful as I am now and I still was innocent. No one had tainted me for lack of a better word. I could be me for two weeks; we’ll a little I had Jager coming with me. So I still had to play that too. But of course, I was playing it up by bringing Jager with me; he thinks everything is forgotten by bringing him to Maine. That's the whole point though, it will even be better when I crush him. But really for two weeks that was going to be forgotten about, well at least no scheming.
I went downstairs Jager was waiting with William for me to come down and head to the airport. I can’t remember being this happy for me and Jeanne. Just knowing I was going to help her with the wedding was amazing.
“Are we ready now Miss Jessica?” William asked.
I answer in my fake British Accent “Why of course Mr. William.” I chuckled.
“Very good Miss Jessica” William sneered back.
I hugged Hope “Thank you, I will call when I get to Abbot Harbor.”
We walked outside got into the car and drove to the airport. Hope actually had a private jet to take us, I was a little shocked but I’ll take it. It was only an hour's flight but if she is going to take the expense for it; why not. When we got on the plane there was a note from Hope. “You two love birds have a good flight.” There was a bottle of champagne, roses, strawberries and chocolates, the only thing I could think was I’m not legal drinking age, I guess it was a small bottle so she knew we would not get drunk. Hope did have a nice little romantic setup. Hope thought that Morgan meddled too much in our relationship so she tried to do things to counter that.
“My mother must really like you.” I smiled at Jager.
“I really like her for doing this. If Morgan knew he would have a stroke.” Jager Grinned. “Let’s just enjoy it.”
The pilot came over the PA and told us to fasten our seat belts; the flight time was fifty-four minutes, and funny enough to enjoy our flight. We took off and about five minutes after the seatbelt light came off. There was a big built-in couch with a TV that came down from the ceiling. We got out of our seats and went over to the couch, Pouring up a glass of champagne for the both of us. Then the movie started and of course, Hope had it set up for my favourite movie, Casablanca. I cuddled into Jager. We toasted had a drink of champagne and watch the movie. Well, not much watching we probably made out for ninety percent of the flight. I know I have to keep up the appearance that I’m madly in love, plus I truly have to make my family think the same. The next thing I know the seatbelt light and ding came on.
“I guess we better put our seatbelts on,” I stated.
“One more minute,” Jager said as he leaned in and kissed me again.
“As much as I would like that we have to we will be landing in one minute and I don’t want us bouncing around.” I grinned as I pulled back from him.
We put on our seatbelts and we landed. As soon as they put the door down for us to get out, Bruce and Ellie were waiting for us. I ran over to hug my mother and brother. As usual Ellie and I started crying. Jager went and grabbed our bags and came over to where we were.
