Chapter 10-His Voice

246 Words
On the way back home, I could not hear the noise of the car, nor the voice of my stepmother. All I could hear was his whisper. “Only I can hurt you, not others. Not even you.” Those words kept playing in my head like a curse. I kept smelling the perfume too. It was faint, but strong enough to make me sick. It was on my skin now, on my dress, inside me. I touched the note in my pocket. My hands shook. The blood stains were still there. Who is he? Why does he know so much about me? And why… why does it almost feel like he’s closer than anyone else? My stepmother’s eyes were on me, sharp and furious. I wanted to cry, to scream, to run out of that hall and never look back. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. My stepmother’s gaze was fixed on me, sharp and furious, her lips pressed into a thin, warning line. So I stood there—silent, trembling, and trapped between two kinds of fear-One that everyone could see…and one that no one else would ever believe. Before we reached home, she leaned close and whispered, her voice like poison: “You are dead when we reach home. I will show you what happens when you embarrass me like that.” I froze in my seat. Her threat cut deeper than the stalker’s words. But still, his whisper echoed louder in my mind.
