Chapter 5– The Note

282 Words
I took a deep breath and pulled the small paper from my pocket. My hands were shaking. For a while, I just stared at it. My heart was beating so fast. I wanted to throw it away and forget. But I also wanted to see what was inside. “What if it says something bad?” I whispered. “What if I can’t handle it?” I held it tightly. I was scared, but I also wanted to know the truth. Slowly, I opened the paper. My eyes moved to the first line. It said only four words: “You can’t hide forever.” I froze. My breath stopped. The letters were not made with ink. They were thick, dark red… written with blood. For a moment, I couldn’t move. My fingers trembled as I held the paper, the metallic scent rising from it making my stomach twist. It felt unreal, like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. My heart pounded so loudly it drowned out every other sound. I dropped the note on the bed and covered my mouth with both hands. My whole body was shaking. Who could do this? Why me? My thoughts spiraled, wild and terrified. Was someone watching me right now? Was this some kind of warning—or a promise? The paper lay open, the words staring back at me like a wound that would never heal. The crimson letters seemed to pulse in the dim light, alive, whispering something I couldn’t understand. I wanted to run, to scream, but all I could do was stand there, trapped between fear and disbelief, while the silence of the room pressed down on me like a weight.
