CHAPTER 26 Rory trailed behind Mizria, trying to remember how she had ever thought this was a good idea. She was dressed in the silks, the silver at her wrists and throat, the kohl on her eyes. Mizria had smiled and told her she looked beautiful, but now Rory felt skin-crawlingly awkward, her arms crossed across her stomach, her shoulders hunched forward. Mizria, on the other hand, was clearly in her element. Few women would be able to pull off the sheer weight of gold and ruby jewellery she wore, but somehow it worked on her. Even though her hair was streaked with silver, she easily outshone every younger woman in the room. She smiled, greeting people, introducing Rory as needed.
