Lucan
After talking with William, I went home and slept peacefully for the first time since Esmeralda had died. William had contact details for Azura and would contact her for me.
Azura was another necromancer just like us, and I had trained with her back in the day alongside William and the others who had been chosen by the spell the witches had cast.
William, like Esmeralda, wasn’t affected by the daylight and so when morning came he called me and arranged to meet at lunchtime.
I got dressed and didn’t bother with my hair, it looked fine anyway from what I could see in the mirror. I had honey blonde hair like Dana, it was messy looking similar to the tousled look I usually went for, so I left it untouched.
My eyes were ice blue with a ring of violet around the rim and flecks of gold threw the blue, the dark circles under them looked a little better now I’d had some decent sleep.
I had a chiseled face with strong cheekbones and full Cupid bow lips, I was designed to look unnaturally beautiful to vampires like they did to humans, it was the perfect weapon to lure them in.
Both my arms were covered in tattoos, nothing I’d paid to have done, it was part of being a necromancer, tattoos would appear when your necromancy came into power and each necromancer’s tattoos were unique to them, reflecting who they were and their abilities.
Dana ran the office for me, making appointments for the following day while I met William. I was about to leave when he messaged me saying he was outside my apartment, confused I went down and saw him waiting in his car.
“Hey, I thought we were meeting in town?” I asked.
“New plan, Azura is free and wants us to meet her in Gladstone, get in.”
I got in hardly believing my luck, the chances that both necromancers from my old training class for unusual abilities like ours were slim to none, but here they were, one in the same city as me and the other only a city away.
When we got there she was already waiting for us in the car park, William was still parking up when I jumped out and ran over to hug her.
“Azura, my old friend, how are you!”
Laughing she hugged me back, “I’m good, how are you these days, Lucan?”
She stepped back to look at me and whistled, “well you’re still very easy on the eye I see.”
I laughed at the joke because we were all gifted in the looks department, specifically designed to seduce vampires the same way they did humans.
I looked at her too, her ruby red hair was still long, although she’d cut it so that it came just past her b.reasts, the soft curls trailing down. Her hair was messy like she’d run her hand through it, but still looked beautiful and stylish somehow.
She was bigger than Dana and only slightly bigger than Esmeralda in the b.reast department, and she wore a tight red mid-length crop top that showed them off, so even I couldn’t help but look admiringly.
I forced my gaze away and saw she was wearing tight dark blue skinny jeans and black combat looking boots similar to mine.
She had a body slender like Dana, but more of an hour glass figure, she was beautiful With full lips and high cheekbones and soft features, her eyes really enhanced her looks, they were an ice green with violet around the rim and flecks of gold through the green similar to mine, Williams eyes if you looked closely enough although dark brown almost black had flecks of gold through them too and a rim of violet.
“Come on then, boys, let’s grab a drink and we can talk.”
We followed Azura and once we were sat down she asked, “so what’s this all about, I’m guessing you haven’t called me after decades just to catch up?”
“Well, someone close to me died recently, and I was given a year by the spirit world to find a way to bring her back.”
“You mean truly brought back from the dead?” She asked.
Nodding, I explained, “I figured maybe there might be some way because she was a vampire, she already had one step in the world of the dead and one step in the world of the living. I’ve tried everything, every ability I have, every spell including the darkest I could find, I’ve spoken to every witch, but no one knows anything.”
She nodded and looked thoughtful for a moment, and then asked, “what makes you think I’d know anything?”
I shrugged, “I don’t know, I’m just trying any leads right now. We are all unique necromancers, one of a kind, with abilities no other necromancer possesses, surely that counts for something, surely we can do something.”
Taking a sip of her drink, she looked at me and then said, “perhaps, except we were made to destroy vampires not bring them back from the dead.”
“I know, but she wasn’t like the others, she didn’t feed on blood at all, she only fed on humans emotions, and she was dying, I offered her my blood, and it did something, changed her somehow.”
“Like Williams girl,” she nodded her head towards William and I nodded.
“Ok, I’m willing to try and help, what have you tried so far?”
“I’ve tried the resurection spell, but it wasn’t even a real spell, I should have realised that. I’ve tried talking to the spirit world, but they refuse to talk to me about anything related to bringing her back, I’ve tried the spell to summon a zombie and tweaked it a little bit that didn’t work either.”
She nodded and thought on it for a while and then she spoke out loud, more to herself than to us. “Hmm, I wonder if it’s much simpler than you think, what if it is the zombie summoning spell, but you just need more…juice? Maybe one of us isn’t enough, maybe it requires all of us?”
She was a genius, I’d never thought of that, our powers and the spell combined would make it a formidable and powerful spell but then my disappointment filled me up again, “are the others available to help us?” I asked.
William and Azura both shook their heads, but it was William who answered, “no, Samuel refuses to have anything to do with his necromancy these days, he wishes to live a human life and even has a family now. And as far as we are aware, the others are either dead or do not wish to be found, both me and Azura have tried over the years, even using a location spell but to no avail.”
“We can still try though,” Azura squeezed my arm gently.
“How soon?” I asked.
They both agreed to try tonight, and I could have kissed them both for this, and I did, I grabbed William’s face and kissed him hard on the cheek and I did the same to Azura.
We made our way back to my Hometown and to the graveyard as it was nearing dark. Graveyards were where our magic for summoning worked best.
We found a clearing and set up the ritual, Azura drew the pentagram on the floor while William placed the candles down, and I withdrew the blade and made the first cut on my arm while chanting the spell.
William was next and then Azura until we were all chanting as one. I could feel our necromancy as one right now, the wind picked up, and the icy blue veins appeared under our skin as we called out to Esmeralda.
