22 Kira and Trevor said good-bye to Marcia and Nick with Nick’s reassurances that an officer would soon be there to keep an eye on Marcia—or Jane Doe, as Nick knew her. Kira struggled to force down the lump of guilt she couldn’t seem to shake off. I hate keeping things from him like this. It’s almost as bad as lying. She hoped Nick understood her need for secrecy. It was important that her clients were able to rely on her discretion. At least he’s going to check Lita’s car. Maybe he’ll find something. But even that thought made her feel guilty. She had already taken Lita’s bag from the car without telling Nick. And now she was using him to do the things that she couldn’t, while walking the fine line of crime scene tampering and obstruction of justice—and not for the first time, either
