Reality returned to Nick slowly; no matter how hard he tried hanging onto the comforting place Jah’lar had taken him to, he couldn’t stay. He was chained to his cot, no muscled arms around his shoulders or across his back, no warm chest under his head or soft snoring ruffling his hair. No Todd. No big, comfortable bed with the frame Todd had handmade. At least they gave him a pillow and blanket. Nick rolled to his side and wiped the small amount of moisture from under his eyes.
