Chapter 13 Nick couldn’t do much more than meekly follow whatever direction Todd offered. He didn’t even want to try thinking for himself. “Are you feeling better?” Todd asked while they cared for the horse. He pulled the saddle off and placed it carefully on one of the racks. Offering only a shrug as a response, Nick quietly led the horse to her stall, pulled off the bridle and took the water bucket to fill it, while Todd scooped out some food. The soft rustle of hay was accompanied by its sweet aroma, immediately followed by the ping of grain hitting the horse’s feed bucket. While the horse ate, Nick wiped her down, shook out the cloth, and hung it on a hook outside the stall door.
