Two days they’d been cooped up in the small house. Two days and Todd thought he was going to go nuts. He and Nick were used to open spaces and moving about however they wished. This was almost as bad as being stuck in the cave they’d found when they first arrived in Yellowknife. Even if the kid hadn’t had the complexion of one, Adam haunted the periphery of their existence like a spirit. He said little around Witze and if Todd looked right at Adam, he thought Adam might faint. He acted downright terrified of Todd. Adam would talk to Nick, but only very little, he looked wary of everything and everyone. He was starting to creep Todd out, which, considering Todd’s line of work, was an accomplishment. Todd needed out of the house for a bit, and he desperately needed to take Nick with him.
