Chapter 2

Zoey's P.O.V "Yeah. That's what you get for messing with me, assholes." Hearing that, you'd think I was causing trouble again but instead, I was kicking virtual butt. I had run out of my stolen strawberries and there was no way I was asking Cassie for another batch except I wanted my ass to get kicked, for real. After ensuring my high score was saved to the system, I walked out of the VR arena to meet a very menacing Cassie waiting for me. "First you steal my bowl of strawberries and then you beat my high score in my favorite VR game? Clarabelle Catarina Manhattan, you are in big trouble." She said, waving her hands like she was holding an invisible rolling pin. "Sorry mum. I didn't mean it, I swears to it on ma ol' honor." I mimicked in an Australian accent before dropping the act. "Besides, Princess, I don't remember my parents naming me Clarabelle Catarina Manhattan. I'm Zoey Manhattan. Plain old me." I said, keeping a strict three feet distance from Cassie. You see, Cassie is a little dynamite with a long fuse. I lit that fuse when I stole her strawberries and I am pretty sure she's gonna explode and whip my ass so bad. "So, how's Richie?" I asked, making my way to the second best part of the complex, the yogurt arena, while keeping an eye on Cassie. "We broke up. Turns out he was actually married." She replied, looking downcast. "Then we are f*****g having a deluxe sundae to get your mind off that asshole." With that, we literally skipped to the counter and got the deluxe sundae before sitting on a couch. Now I was probably the only one that could eat that much sugar without being knocked out, Cassie on the other hand was the lightest icecream eater I have ever met because halfway through the bowl, she was literally bouncing on the couch with a Cheshire cat-like grin. "Zoey, let's go play Sugar Racing." She squealed and confirmed my theory that she was actually high on sugar. Cassie hated Sugar Racing so much she had gotten in trouble a few times for trying to mess up the VR booth of the darned game. And I agree with her choice, because Sugar Racing looked like a game created by flying horses and talking rabbits. Breathing deeply, I said "No. There's no way in Merlin's butt cheeks I'm playing that shit." She probably knew I won't have agreed because she pulled out the big guns. Her lips began to quiver and I swear I saw a tear drop and her eyes teared up. All in all, that was the most resolve shattering puppy dog face ever. "Fine. Fine. But just once." I said but she barely listened as she dragged me towards the booth. Suddenly, I caught sight of a figure I knew too well–Henry. Of course, he was the one who first showed me this place so he knew exactly where I would be. "Cassie, why don't you go on first? I'll be right behind you." I said in my most convincing voice and didn't wait for an answer before careening towards one of the numerous exits. I could hear Henry yelling my name but I knew how this would end if I stopped. He'll convince me to come back to school, then I hear my sentence, then I get yelled at by parents and then country side here I come but that wasn't part of my bucket list so I pushed the door open and found myself in an alley. I could see the busy road and raced for it. With any luck, I'd be long gone before Henry comes out. Unfortunately, Lady luck decided to mess with me and Henry burst through the doors just as I got to the other side and ran blindly into the road, oblivious to the speeding van heading towards him. ******** Henry's POV. Why the f**k did she take off running? I thought as I caught sight of Zoey heading for the exit with me in hot pursuit. Turns out training four hours every day for the cross country race had it's advantage. Soon, I was through the door and ran towards the other side of the road. Suddenly, I heard an engine roar as it's tyres screeched. My world suddenly went into slow motion and I could see Zoey's face morph into pure horror. I took that to mean my life was over and I closed my eyes, bracing for impact. Somehow, the impact never came and instead a large mass flew past me. Opening my eyes, I could see that the van was immobile and the driver unconscious. Remembering the large mass, I turned to inspect the strange object that seemed to have saved my life. That was when I realized the large mass was Zoey. Someone yelled and it took me a split second to realize I was the one. "Zoey. Wake up. Come on. Re-rember-remember the twin code. We do anything together and don't get hurt without the other's permission." I cry, her unnaturally still and limp form eliciting another yell from me. Zoey had f*****g been my pillar, someone I could trust. "No you cannot die." I cried, and stayed like that till the ambulance took her away to the hospital. "She's not dead. She's surprisingly alive but she'll be in coma." The doctor said after checking her when we got to the hospital. "She's a fighter. An impact that great smashed her skull and ribs, tearing muscles and such but she still survived." He said "So she's not dead? Zoey would be discharged?" "No. She just need to breath and heal." "Thank God. I'll just stay here till she wakes up." I offered, making myself comfortable.
