CHAPTER 13

I could barely sleep a wink that night. Maybe because I was a deep sleeper and didn't trust who I was living with, or mostly because I was in a new place and was simply trying to adjust. I woke up the next morning feeling not-so- enthusiastic. I just felt like when I finally got a job, I'd be elated, but apparently, that's not the case. I brushed my teeth and had a quick shower, got dressed in work clothes, and practically bolted downstairs. I felt like if I was even a second late, Raffaele would literally leave me, and I'd have to walk to work, which is quote unquote 'only God knows where.' Sometimes, I just thought Raffaele Salvator was as galling as he was hot. And I hated that he was hot and that he very well knew that. Thankfully, I was early enough to grab a bite of pancakes. The drive was somewhat cosy. Well, except for the lingering awkward silence. It was really uncomfortable sitting in the back seat next to Raffaele. I nudged the driver's arm and told him to play some soothing music. "Don't." Raffaele cut me off, and the driver flinched in fear. I sighed and slumped back on my seat, my eyes darting to Raffaele typing on his laptop and looking all serious. From what I've heard, his dad owns multiple companies and chairs them all. I also heard his dad was in Australia or something. We were headed to a certain automobile company where Raffaele was the vice chairman. About 30 minutes later, we got there. "Follow me." Raffaele said curtly, walking out of the car, and I did as he instructed. I followed him into an elevator, taking us to the sixteenth floor. 'Ugh'. I mentally face palmed myself. I really wish I wouldn't spend a second with this man. We soon enough got to the sixteenth floor, and we walked out of the elevator and headed towards a door. I sighed impatiently as he imputed his pass code. I gasped immediately, and we got into his office. It was a perfect replica of the one at the club. Except this one had a strange looking door at a corner. Raffaele must have noticed my eyes staring at the door cos he said; "by the way, that's your office." I scoffed Perfect!!! There goes my wish. Does this mean I wouldn't be able to leave my office without passing through his? Wow. This guy really has it out for me. I reluctantly walked towards the door. "Oi," He called out the Australian fashioned way, stopping me dead on my tracks. "I hope you were paying attention during our drive from home this morning because you'd be the one driving me to work every day, and my driver would take me to places that are not work." He's joking... right? He looked at me, expecting an answer when I said nothing. That's when I lost it. "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" "Cos I'm your boss." He replied matter-of-factly. Those have got to be his favourite words. "You didn't think I hired you as my assistant to live in an expensive house and eat some fancy food. Right?" He added. I stormed to my office and slammed the door. The office looked small but comfortable. It had a coffee table, a sofa, a desk and seat. It also had a bathroom. He must've thought I'd wander off somewhere if I decide to take a pee break outside our offices. All of this was just high-key imposing, and I was getting fed up, although it was just the beginning. My phone dinged. It was a text from Thea. T:So....... How's work? I replied almost immediately. J:The worst 😪🤬. She wrote back. T:Don't worry, things will turn out great. I promise. J:Thanks, Tee, love you ❤️. T:Love you more🥰🥰. I smiled at her text and dropped my phone on the table when the door flung open. Raffaele came in with a guy clutching a ton of paperwork. "You've got the entire day to file this paperwork." He said. Wow! this day just got a lot worse. I spent my entire afternoon filing paperwork for the very first time in my life. I wasn't even sure of what I was doing, but I'm gonna get paid in the end, right? So, who cares? All I cared about was my growling stomach. Does this place even have a cafeteria or something? I carefully tiptoed out of my office, ignoring Raffaele's piercing gaze on my back. I just felt like if I ignored him, he won't stop me, and he didn't. OMG!!! I couldn't believe that worked.
