Chapter 4 -The Alpha Feels the Bond

540 Words
Kael POV It hit like a war drum inside my chest. I dropped to one knee. The council chamber blurred as power tore through my veins — not weakening me, claiming me. The mate bond had returned, stronger than it had ever been, but it was different. When Lyra had first been revealed as my mate years ago, the bond had felt warm, steady, anchoring, but this one… it burnt. Mine, my wolf roared. “No…” I breathed. Selene rushed forward. “Alpha?” I shoved her away on instinct. “Get back.” Her eyes widened — hurt flickering across her face before she masked it. The scent lingered in the air, wild jasmine and winter frost with something new, steel. “She’s alive,” I whispered. Selene went very still. “That’s impossible,” she said too quickly. But my wolf knew, the bond pulsed again — not submissive, but dominant. A growl rumbled from my chest. Wherever she was… she was no longer the soft Luna who once stood beside me; she had changed, and goddess help anyone who stands in her path. Aria POV The shift had been effortless. When I stood beneath the moon in my human form again, there was no confusion, no fear, just clarity. Memories layered over instinct, Lyra’s death, Kael’s rejection and Selene’s triumphant eyes, and now—the bond. I felt it slam into place inside me. A thread of fire stretching across miles of forest, he felt me. A slow smile curved my lips. For years, he had lived with silence, with emptiness. Now he would live with anticipation. I pressed my hand over my heart. The bond tugged faintly — testing. My wolf stirred. He is ours. I shook my head slowly. “No,” I whispered. He rejected us. The bond tightened in response, as if defying me, interesting. I closed my eyes and focused — not to accept it, but to control it. The connection dimmed slightly, not gone, but muted. If I could feel him… I could use that. Revenge was not about rage; it was about timing, and I was not ready to walk into Bloodmoon territory yet. I needed strength, allies and knowledge of what the pack has become. A twig snapped behind me, and I turned instantly. A rogue male stepped into view — Garrick, tall, scarred, cautious. “I saw the shift,” he said carefully. “That wasn’t normal.” “No,” I agreed calmly. “It felt like… an Alpha.” I held his gaze. “It was.” The air shifted, with respect and fear “Spread the word,” I said quietly. “The rogue lands are no longer leaderless.” His eyes widened. “You’re claiming—” “Yes.” My voice did not rise, but it carried. “I will unite the rogues.” Power rippled outward from me — instinctive dominance rolling through the trees. The male dropped to one knee without realising he had done it, and far away, Kael’s wolf howled in challenge. I felt it through the bond, a territorial warning. I smiled. “Soon,” I murmured to the night. “Soon”, Alpha.
