A Good Day to Be Arrested
The morning was quiet, sweet, and deceptively still. At exactly 6:00 AM, John Nishpor opened his eyes. He stepped out of bed and walked into the bathroom for a hot shower. He let the scalding water burn against his sculpted, athletic body, savoring the sharp sensation of heat on his skin. He washed slowly, with the absolute calm of a man who was never in a hurry—mostly because there was nowhere he was expected to be.
After rinsing off, he wrapped a white towel around his waist, brushed his teeth, and left the mirror fogged behind him. He walked down to the living room of his flawless, luxurious, and modern house. In the kitchen, he picked up the morning newspaper and began to read in absolute, undisturbed silence.
When he finished, he went back upstairs to dress. He chose tailored trousers and a high-quality polo shirt. To complete the look, he placed a classic vintage hat on his head, much like the ones his grandfather used to wear. His entire presence exuded an effortless, old-school gentleman charm.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated. He picked it up, and an unfamiliar female voice spoke from the other end of the line.
"You are about to be arrested. Be careful, and don't resist, okay?"
John let out a low, amused chuckle. "Okay."
"Don't you want to know who I am?" the woman insisted, her tone sharp.
"I don't care," John replied smoothly, and hung up the phone.
He checked his reflection one last time. Today is a good day to be arrested, he thought.
Leaving the house, he walked to the café on the corner. Inside, he ordered a black coffee without sugar. That was the exact moment he noticed her. She practically radiated beauty. Wearing a pastel pink dress that highlighted her innocent, cheerful vibe, her long brown hair cascaded beautifully over her shoulders.
John broke his silence and approached her. "Good morning, young lady. May I offer you a pastry?"
The girl nodded, her eyes meeting his. But in that precise second, the peace shattered. Police sirens wailed outside, the doors flew open, and officers swarmed the café, grabbing Josh.
However, Josh didn't resist. He let them take him, feeling completely detached, as if he were floating on a calm beach, drifting away with the ocean waves. In that suspended moment, he looked at her and wondered: Where did she come from? And where is she going?
Time stood still until a rough yank from an officer jerked him back to reality. Right, he told himself, and a small smile played on his lips.
Katherine stood frozen, a sudden shiver running down her spine. Nervous and trembling, she cowered in a corner, wondering what a man like him could have done. Then, a deep blush crept up her neck as she realized that even while being forced into the vehicle, he hadn’t broken eye contact with her for a single second.
Once inside the patrol car, John looked through the window. Standing on the sidewalk, watching the scene unfold, was a woman in dark sunglasses and a tight, navy blue dress. Slowly and mockingly, she waved goodbye.
John’s face hardened. The game had officially begun.
