The Cult

Drex steps to the edge of the cliff. She turned her back on him while he was laughing. She feels embarrassed. This is the first time for her to have these deep feelings for someone. She had a lover here or there, but none of them felt like this. This is a new chapter in her life she needs to figure out. This feels real and right. Smoke in the distance gets her attention, makes her frown. The energy she gets from the surrounding area is uneasy, scary, and deadly. "Wasn’t there a pack somewhere there?" Kay asks, concerned. Drex looks at her and nods. He sent Hila a message to take over the training this morning and finish up. He needs to investigate something with Kay. "Let's go check it out," he suggests and without commanding Kay, she follows him without a second thought. Drex can feel the uneasiness Kay gives off and stops moving. He looks at her and tilts his head. "I can feel how uneasy you are. What's going on?" he asked, concerned that he had made her feel this way. Which is stupid because he knows the real reason. He was just hoping it wasn’t him. And if she talks, maybe he will feel at ease when he hears her real reason. Kay is amazed that he picked up on this so easily. "Well, it's just that I can feel the uncertainty in the surrounding air. That's what I learned about the fight the other day," she explains, and Drex nods to this. "Tell me more about this feeling," Drex asks, curious to learn more about Kay. Kay walks next to him, taking a breath. "I feel this connection with nature. I always had it, it felt normal to me," she explains as they got near the smoke with each step. Kay can't feel any life there like no one was spared. "I don't feel like there's any other wolf in the area," she announces with a bit of concern. Drex doesn't like this and runs. Kay followed suit. The stench of burning corpses and the iron smell of blood draws close. They both know what this means. No one was spared, and it was burned to the ground. They reach the ruins of a place that once belonged to wolves not so long ago. Kay's mouth falls open at the horror before her. She came across a lot of gruesome things in her life, but this takes the cake. Women and children were slaughtered. Their bodies burned and just left like this. She wants to cry at what she is seeing. She wants to make their attackers pay for what they have done in the same manner they have done to these innocent souls. It's horrible. "Who did this?" Drex asks while sniffing around. He picks up the scent of silver and rogues. It's weird that those two scents are here at the same time. Kay moves over to a not so badly burned corpse. This was a normal werewolf pack. They all converted back to their human forms. The male she is looking at has clean-cut and stab wounds. She has seen these before. She has witnessed humans killing rogue wolves like this. "Can it be hunters?" Kay suggests something she just thought of. Drex looks up at her. You can see in his eyes that he is thinking it over. There is a possibility that it could be that the hunters are there. What is bothering him is why the rogues are here, too. They rarely work with hunters, let alone be in the presence of one. Rogues don't play by the rules of the pack or the Alpha Kings Rules either. They follow their own rules and, therefore, are rogues. A Wolf with no Alpha to lead them. Rogues go insane if they are not from alpha blood themselves. And because they don't want to have any leader, they also abandon the Moon Goddess, and the red string that ties them to their mate gets broken and taken away from them. They can't take their mate down the same road they want to be. Rogues call it freedom, and the sane wolves call it stupidity. Leaving the safety of a pack is never wise. Rogues become insane and they lose their minds. They don't even become wild; they become monsters without the proper leadership. "It could be Hunters. What has me baffled is the rogue scent," Drex informs her, and Kay wonders if it's the dead smell she is pinking up. "Does the rogue smell, smell like death?" Kay asks, uncertain, and Drex nods at her. "Yes, they smell like death," he reassures her. Another teaching moment for Kay today. "I have smelled this before, this mix of scents," Kay informs him about it. Drex looks up at her. "I have seen them. Werewolves leached like dogs and hunters walking them, using them as a guard or hunting dogs." Kay shares her experience with him. Drex walks closer to her, to listen more intently. "They were not like the hunters in the books and what they teach us as pups," Kay adds while thinking about the hunters they have in the books that the pups get to learn from. "They felt darker, less respectful. Like a rogue hunter?" she tries to explain to him in her own words what Hila wants her to do. Drex frowns at this. He once heard about them. It was only a rumor back then, as time went by, the rumors became true and his dad had to take action against them. It was the first time that hunters and wolves worked together to take down this rogue group mixed of hunters and wolves. A cult dedicated to taking down supernaturals even when they didn't even do any harm to humanity. "I'll get a team here to bury the dead and gather more information on what did this," Drex informs her, mind linking the pack for anyone that can organize the burial and investigation. "Come on. Let's head back. I need to contact our King," Drex informs her again. Kay nods and starts walking next to him to their packhouse. Kay said little on the way back, and Drex didn't mind. He was at peace with her company and enjoyed the feeling. He relaxed a bit. She had a calming aura around her, he only noticed now. He likes it too. Hila saw them coming closer as the team was already waiting to go to the neighboring pack. "Wow, they look amazing together," the girl, who was dominated by Kay earlier this morning, commented as she saw them drawing near. She is part of the investigation team. "Yeah, they do. Such a perfect couple," another also adds as they talk among each other. "Shh, they are close enough to hear us know," Hila informed them and everyone shuts up just in time. Hila gives Drex's shorts before he goes behind the building to shift. Kay shifts right there in front of everyone. It's a White Wolf perk and a lot of wolves would love to have that perk.
