The journey through Blackwood Forest was silent except for the rustling leaves beneath Evelyn’s boots. The deeper she and Kael traveled, the colder the night became. Moonlight filtered through the ancient trees, casting long shadows that seemed to move on their own.
Evelyn glanced at Kael. “Where are you taking me?”
“Somewhere no one will find us,” he replied without slowing his pace.
After nearly an hour of walking, they reached the entrance to a cave concealed behind a cascading waterfall. Strange silver symbols glowed across the stone walls. As Kael stepped forward, the symbols shimmered before the entrance slowly opened.
Evelyn’s eyes widened.
“This place… it’s protected by magic.”
Kael nodded. “It’s one of the oldest sanctuaries ever built. Witches and vampires created it together long before the Great War divided our people.”
Inside, ancient books lined towering shelves, while glowing crystals illuminated the vast chamber. At the center stood a stone pedestal holding a weathered scroll wrapped in golden chains.
Kael carefully unlocked the chains and unrolled the scroll.
“This is the Prophecy of the Twin Flames,” he said.
Evelyn stepped closer and read the faded words aloud.
“When darkness rises and the moon turns crimson, the witch blessed by the stars shall stand beside the vampire born of eternal night. Together they will either restore peace or bring about the final fall of both bloodlines.”
A chill ran down her spine.
“So… we’re part of this prophecy?”
Before Kael could answer, a powerful shockwave rattled the sanctuary. Dust fell from the ceiling as the crystals flickered wildly.
“They’ve found us,” Kael whispered.
The cave entrance exploded inward.
A tall woman dressed in crimson robes emerged from the smoke, her silver eyes glowing with fury. Dark magic crackled around her fingertips.
“Evelyn Ashford,” she said coldly. “You have betrayed the witches by standing beside a vampire.”
Evelyn took a step back.
“I don’t even know who you are.”
The woman smiled.
“My name is Selene… and I am the High Witch.”
Kael immediately moved in front of Evelyn, his crimson eyes blazing.
“Stay behind me.”
Selene raised her hand, summoning a massive sphere of black fire.
“You have chosen the wrong side.”
The sanctuary trembled as ancient magic collided with vampire power, and Evelyn realized that the war Kael had warned her about had already begun.
