Chapter 1: The Night Fate Changed
Rain poured relentlessly over Blackwood City, turning the streets into shimmering mirrors beneath the glow of the streetlights. Evelyn Ashford hurried through the empty sidewalks, clutching her notebook and camera tightly. As one of the city’s most respected investigative journalists, she had built her reputation by exposing stories others were too afraid to touch.
Earlier that evening, she had received an anonymous message.
“If you want the truth about the disappearances, come alone.”
Ignoring the warning from her editor, Evelyn followed the address to an abandoned warehouse at the edge of the harbor. She had no idea that the decision would change her life forever.
What no one knew was that Evelyn carried a dangerous secret. Beneath her calm and intelligent appearance lived one of the last descendants of an ancient witch bloodline. Since childhood, she had hidden her magical abilities, promising never to use them unless absolutely necessary.
The warehouse was eerily silent.
As she stepped inside, a cold breeze swept across the room. Suddenly, a loud crash shattered the silence.
Evelyn hurried toward the sound and froze.
A tall man dressed in black stood beside an unconscious body. His skin was unnaturally pale, and for a split second, his gray eyes glowed a deep crimson before fading again.
Without thinking, Evelyn lifted her camera.
Click.
The stranger turned instantly.
“You shouldn’t be here,” he said, his voice calm but commanding.
Before Evelyn could answer, a monstrous creature smashed through the warehouse wall with an earth-shaking roar. Sharp claws reached toward her.
Instinct took over.
Blue flames burst from Evelyn’s hands, sending the creature crashing into a concrete pillar.
The stranger watched in stunned silence.
“A witch…” he whispered.
Evelyn met his gaze without fear.
“And you’re a vampire.”
Thunder echoed across the sky as they realized they were no longer strangers, but two people connected by a fate neither of them understood. Hidden in the darkness, unseen eyes watched their meeting, and an ancient prophecy that had slept for centuries finally began to awaken.
