The forest was unnaturally quiet.
Moonlight streamed through towering trees, painting silver patterns across the ground as Evelyn and Kael cautiously approached the ancient temple. Vines wrapped around its towering pillars, while glowing blue runes shimmered across the stone walls like living stars.
Evelyn tightened her grip on the silver pendant Selene had given her.
“This place feels… alive,” she whispered.
Kael nodded.
“The Temple of the Crescent Moon was built before witches and vampires became enemies. Every stone here holds ancient magic.”
As they climbed the cracked marble steps, the massive doors slowly creaked open without a touch. A cold breeze swept past them, carrying the faint sound of whispered voices.
Inside, dozens of statues lined the grand hall. Each depicted a warrior, a witch, or a vampire with their heads bowed toward a glowing pedestal at the far end of the chamber.
Resting upon it was a dazzling silver crown.
The Moonstone Crown.
“So that’s the first relic,” Evelyn breathed.
She took a cautious step forward.
The moment her foot touched the center of the hall, the temple shook.
A beam of pale light descended from the ceiling, forming the shape of a tall armored warrior with glowing white eyes. His armor was carved with crescent moons, and he held a spear forged from shimmering crystal.
“I am Orion,” the warrior declared. “Guardian of the Moonstone Crown.”
Kael immediately stepped in front of Evelyn.
“We’re not your enemies.”
“That is for the temple to decide,” Orion replied.
He struck the floor with his spear, and the statues lining the hall sprang to life. Stone warriors surrounded Evelyn and Kael, their glowing eyes fixed upon the intruders.
“There is only one way to claim the Moonstone Crown,” Orion said. “Prove that your hearts seek peace rather than power.”
Without warning, the stone warriors charged.
Kael fought with remarkable speed, his silver blade clashing against enchanted stone. Evelyn summoned waves of brilliant blue magic, shattering several statues, but more continued to rise from the floor.
“We can’t keep this up!” she shouted.
Orion watched silently.
“This trial cannot be won through strength alone.”
Evelyn suddenly lowered her hands.
“Kael, stop fighting!”
He looked at her in surprise but trusted her enough to obey.
The remaining statues froze.
Evelyn stepped toward Orion, leaving herself completely defenseless.
“We didn’t come to conquer this temple,” she said calmly. “We came to protect both witches and vampires. If taking the crown means becoming another tyrant, then I don’t want it.”
The temple fell silent.
A warm silver light surrounded the Moonstone Crown.
Orion smiled for the first time in centuries.
“Your heart has spoken truth.”
The Crown rose gently into the air before settling into Evelyn’s hands.
But at that very moment, an arrow tipped with black crystal flew through the temple and struck Orion in the chest.
His smile vanished.
“They found us…” he whispered.
Dark figures emerged from every shadow, their crimson cloaks fluttering as they surrounded the temple.
Their leader stepped forward and slowly applauded.
“Congratulations,” he said with a cruel smile. “You found the relic for us.”
Kael tightened his grip on his sword.
The real battle for the Moonstone Crown had just begun.
