The sanctuary shook violently as the Dark Sovereign stepped through the shattered entrance. His black armor gleamed beneath the flickering crystal lights, and his golden eyes burned with an ancient hatred.
Every witch in the chamber instinctively raised a magical barrier.
Kael tightened his grip on his silver sword.
“Stay behind me,” he whispered to Evelyn.
The Dark Sovereign laughed, his voice echoing through the sanctuary.
“After centuries of searching, the prophecy has finally brought you both together.”
A wave of dark energy burst from his outstretched hand. The witches combined their powers to stop it, but the force shattered their protective barrier like glass. Several witches were thrown across the chamber.
Selene immediately stood before Evelyn.
“You must leave. Now!”
“No,” Evelyn replied. “I’m not abandoning everyone.”
Selene placed both hands on Evelyn’s shoulders.
“Listen carefully. The Moonstone Crown is hidden inside the Temple of the Crescent Moon. It is the first relic. If the Dark Sovereign claims it before you do, every kingdom will fall.”
Before Evelyn could answer, the Dark Sovereign unleashed another attack.
Kael intercepted it, but the impact sent him crashing into a stone pillar.
“Kael!” Evelyn cried.
Without thinking, she stretched out her hands. Brilliant blue magic surged from her fingertips, forming a glowing shield around Kael just before another blast struck him.
The chamber filled with blinding light.
Everyone stopped.
Selene stared in disbelief.
“The Shield of Astra…”
“The what?” Evelyn asked.
“It is a forgotten spell,” Selene explained. “Only the descendants of the First Witch can use it.”
The Dark Sovereign smiled.
“So the legends were true.”
His gaze locked onto Evelyn.
“You possess the power I have sought for a thousand years.”
Fear gripped Evelyn’s heart, but she refused to step back.
“I’ll never join you.”
The Dark Sovereign raised his hand again, preparing one final strike.
Before he could attack, Kael appeared in front of Evelyn and drove his silver blade into the ground.
Ancient runes erupted across the sanctuary floor.
A brilliant portal opened behind them.
“Go!” Kael shouted.
Selene pushed Evelyn toward the glowing light.
“You must find the Moonstone Crown.”
“What about you?”
“We’ll hold him here.”
Evelyn hesitated for only a second before stepping through the portal.
Kael followed, just as the gateway sealed shut behind them.
They landed in the middle of a dense forest beneath a silver moon.
In the distance, an enormous temple rose above the trees, glowing with pale blue light.
Evelyn stared at the breathtaking structure.
“So… that’s where the first relic is.”
Kael nodded grimly.
“And we’re not the only ones searching for it.”
From the shadows of the forest, dozens of crimson eyes slowly opened.
The hunt for the first relic had begun.
