CHAPTER THREE
Denneris
ARCADUN; THE HUMAN KINGDOM
"Am I dead? "
I asked myself as I stared into the thick black blanket that swallowed me whole and left no trail of light behind it.
My throat was parched and my eyes could barely make out a thing. If this was how the afterlife looked like, I most certainly did not want to be part of it.
I wandered alone, cold, terrified and in search of a way out. But ended up coming back to the place I started. Back to the start of a circle that had no end.
"Where am I?? Is anyone here??."
I shouted into the darkness, hoping that someone, anyone heard my cry and came to my aid. It was both a waste of my time and reserved energy because all my voice did was echo back at me.
"I guess this is my hell for all of eternity." I muttered underneath my breathe, scared to accept the words I uttered with my mouth or dare say it out loud.
I had lost count of how many times I moved in an endless circle, simply chasing my tail. There was nothing like the beauty of dawn or the dust that came with dusk. There was just darkness.
"She's gone, Heather. The sooner we accept that our daughter is never coming back to us, the better." I heard the voice of an unmistakable male for the first time since I arrived at my "hell," speak.
"Now, you are starting to hallucinate Denny." I chuckled at myself and how I moved from a sane person to an insane person. This was what the darkness could do to anyone and I was slowly becoming part of it
"How can you say that Luke! The doctor said there is a one percent chance of her waking up. Unlike you, I am holding unto hope and most definitely not accepting any negative s**t you dish out to me."
That was a woman's voice. I could not make up such intense conversation from my blank head. I was not alone.
"I'm right here!." I screamed at the top of my lungs, my eyes burning with unshed tears as I intensified my scream into a howl.
"Heather..." The man spoke again, his voice defeated and drained.
It dawned on me, I was the only person who could hear my own screams and no one else. Their conversation continued, like I did not just exhaust my wind pipe screaming my heart out.
"Luke. That is enough. I can't believe you are actually saying this. She can hear us... If you can't fight for her, then I will be the lone wolf and fight for her." The woman spoke again, this time around, her words held disappointment.
Every fiber of my body felt pity for the unknown woman and yearned to give a hug. Call it insanity but that was what I wanted to do in this moment.
I could feel my being float in the air and drift towards the place where the voices were heard. I felt so alive as I moved without control into a sudden light that appeared.
A sharp gust of air followed as I returned to the land of the living. My tongue felt heavy and my eye lids refused to budge open but the voices I heard meant I survived. I was alive! Dola was right, this was only a bad dream...
"Did you see that?." The same female voice I heard earlier, spoke in shock. I could tell she was on the verge of collapse with how her voice shook with every word she said.
"See what?."
The man asked, curiosity written all over his voice. He wanted to know the reason for the woman's abrupt shock and I was interested to know as well.
I had a feeling I knew these two people that spoke all my life. Their voices were ingrained somewhere in my head. How that was possible, I had no idea but it was exactly how I felt.
"Where the hell am I?." I asked myself as I made another attempt to open my tightly shut eyes.
"Goodness! Doctor!."I heard the joy in the woman's voice.
"I saw movements." She screamed out loud.
"Thanks to the heavens." The man sobbed like an uncouth lady as he spoke.
There was a lot of drama going on around me which I did not want to be part of. I just wanted to see the light and help myself to all the fresh spring water in the kingdom.
Not only was I parched, I was f*****g hungry and could finish a banquet in seconds. I moved my eyeballs, but my eyelids still refused to budge open.
"You can do this Denny." I heard a voice that was familiar but yet different cheer me on.
Dola my wolf, did not sound like a polar beer. She had the voice of an angel. But still, I needed to know who spoke to me with such familiarity and was in my subconsciousness.
"Dola, is that you?." I asked but was shocked at how I sounded. My voice did not sound like me as well.
"Yes, it is me. I have no idea why we sound like we had our voices snatched away from us. That is why, I need you to open your eyes. Wake up from this bad dream."
My wolf's words was the motivation I needed to open my eyes. It was a slow and gradual process but I finally did it. I finally opened my f*****g eyes to the light that I yearned for.
Damn, did it feel so good to be back.
My eyes tried adjusting to the blinding light, the sharp smell of antiseptic and the unfamiliar faces that were still blurred out in my vision.
The beeping sound of the machine and the iv fluid that was sitting pretty in my vein, solved the question of where I was.
Now, I wanted to know "what the f**k was going on and why I was surrounded by strange people with weird expressions on their faces."
"Gregory." I called out to him, my eyes searching the room for signs or traces of my mate but he was nowhere in sight.
"Why do I sound like a teenager Dola?." I asked my wolf who had been silent since I gained consciousness.
"I could ask you the same question. I sound like a man..." Dola retorted back at me with an angry huff.
"There is no way this is normal!.I sound like a man with a whooping cough and you sound like a teenager. Don't you find that strange?." Dola was being dramatic as usual but her assertions were correct.
Everything felt and looked wrong. The faces before me, my aching muscles and the absence of my mate. "But what could it be?." I wondered to myself.
"Denneris, what the f**k is going on?!." Dola cried in her hoarse voice.
