CHAPTER FIVE Gregory LYCAN KINGDOM "Someone can't wait to get hitched." Ariana my kid sis teased as she waltzed into my room as usual like she owned the place. My happiness knew no bounds and was boldly written for all to see. I was about to get married to the love of my f*****g life, the world had to feel the event of today. "That is very correct dear sister. Now, tell me how I look in this tuxedo." I asked Ariana who was a pro in the field of fashion and aesthetics. "You do know, that you just broke the hearts of all the eligible bachelorette in the entirety of this great kingdom. I fear for your beloved, she might get hives just watching the evil glares from your past acquaintances." Her words held another meaning and was directed to someone in particular. We both knew who she was talking about but today was not the day to have a conversation that was not based on my wedding or my beautiful bride to be. "She is the soon to be Luna of the kingdom, your Luna and theirs as well. They will learn to love her. Now, please tell me if I'll cause my beloved to cry a tear or two of joy." I meant it when I said, I wanted Den to be filled with tears of joy when she beholds the man she was going to spend all of eternity with. I had become a puddle of mush since I gave into my feelings for my mate and stopped resisting the inevitable. It had been nothing but bliss. "Love is really a tedious exercise." Ariana huffed out loudly, distracting me from my thoughts. She looked at me in disbelief like she did not recognize the man that stood before her. Love was paradise on earth, it was far from been a "tedious exercise" as she'd put it. She just had to meet her Mr. Right and things would fall in place naturally. "You will know in due time sis. When your mate appears, you will fully and completely understand how hard and irresistible he will be " I smirked at her, certain that she was going to fall head over heels for whoever the lucky one would be. "Well for the record, I don't want to be mated to anyone. I just want to explore the world of fashion and make money. Love like I said, is a tedious exercise." Ariana.still stood on her earlier assertion which made me wonder why she was so adamant on matters of the heart. "I'll leave you to say your final goodbyes to single hood brother. Trust me, you are going to miss it." I was not going to miss nothing, even the stooge that attended to the horses all knew how in love I was with my mate. I could not wait to jump on the one-way train to forever with Denneris Tye. Finally Ariana Draki was out of my hair but Alaric was yet to return from his one hour use of the restroom. "What was taking him so long?." I wondered to myself. The clock was ticking loudly and the hurried movement of the maid in the hallway meant it was almost time. "Apologies for keeping you waiting, your grace." Alaric's words apology was not enough to satiate my curiosity as to where he went. I could swear he did not only pay homage to the restroom alone. "What took you so long?. Don't tell me you paid a little visit to the maid's quarters?." I stared at him questioningly as I waited for him to refute what I said. I wanted to pry and I was unashamed of it. He was my beta but I knew little about him except that he was a thriving young man fresh out of law school. "Not at all..." He plastered one of the most forced smiles I have ever seen in my thirty two years of existence as he spoke. It was obvious he did not want us having personal conversations about him, but his was my beta, there was nothing he could do about it. "I made a quick stop to my chambers, to freshen up." He replied as he to got my crested cufflinks from the safe. I noticed his hair was still slightly wet and his clean shaved jaw. Alaric and I had similar body physique and were almost the same size. His dirty blonde hair went well his skin tone and his emerald green eyes left trails of mysteries untold. I was almost done dressing when the sound of the chapel bell clanged out loudly. "It is time your grace.." My beta said with a bow. It was tradition to bow to the Alpha three times on his wedding day. It completed the three dots that made up the full moon in the Luna calender. I made way to the chapel, my hands tucked in white gloves. Everyone was seated and the priest was already prepared to carry out his duty as the lycan priest and leader of the church. What was left, was the graceful entrance of the bride. Denny's parents as well as mine spoke and laughed like they were long time friends. This wedding, was blessed and the union had the blessings of all. Minutes turned into hours, but my bride was yet to make an entrance. Murmurs had already erupted among members of the royal court as well as those in attendance. "She's late?." My wolf spoke, worry vivid in his voice. She was meant to be here an hour ago but there was no sign of my mate. Something was wrong, it was unlike Ada to be late for an event especially when the said event was her wedding. I ignored the murmurs and the questioning gaze my parents shot my way as I exited out of the chapel, my beta right behind me. There was this feeling that overwhelmed me the moment I left the chapel. "Emptiness" that was the right word to describe how I felt. The clouds outside the chapel were angry and the white flakes that fell from the sky felt like a bad omen. "Guards." I called out to those within the premises. The guards at the entrance of the chapel all assembled before me as we all made way to the palace. Denneris wasn't one to flee, just because she was having cold feet. The maids in charge of her makeup and dressing had no idea where she was which enraged me some more. Their Luna was absent and no alarm was raised. "Search through the palace. No corner should be overlooked." I ordered the guards who carried out their orders with immediate effect. Maybe, she had lost her way or was stuck in one of the rooms in the palace. The mate bond was silent. My beta, was right behind me as we both headed to the renovated wing of the palace. I had no idea why I was looking for my mate in such a deserted place but I felt drawn to the place like it held what I searched for. "The north wing has been deserted for years your grace. I don't think we are in the right place." Alaric was right and what he said made sense but I felt drawn to this place. "No stone should be left unturned." Was my reply to Ric who was probably reluctant due to the cracked walls and dust. The dust filled wing of the palace, held most of my childhood memories, it was also the place Rudolf my elder brother passed away. It held both the good and bad memories of my childhood. Renovation was in progress, the ceilings sparkled with new chandeliers and sparkling transparent glasses. The floor was dusty and more dust covered every inch of it's walls. Ric was right, there was no way Ada was here. "Let's go Ric..." My beta was already at the entrance ready to do as he was told when I found myself been drawn to the dinning area. I could feel my insides burn with the need to be there. My eyes, caught a thick line of blood stain at the entrance of the dinning room and my heart skipped a beat as I hurried into the dinning room. There she was, my mate in her pool of blood, her eyes wide opened and her mouth squeezed to the side. This was not real. This was not f*****g real. I let out a loud growl which shook the items in the dinning room. My mate was cold and her porcelain white skin had frozen up and was white, completely drained out of blood. "Who did this!." I growled out, my hands shook with raw rage. I was going to kill who did this to my mate and his or her death was going to be pure torture. I was not going to show mercy.. "Alaric, summon the royal physician and alert the kingdom's information bearer about the demise of the Luna." I felt nothing while I spoke, all I could think of was the jagged opening on the neck of my mate and the coagulated pool of blood I found her in. She was murdered and in the most gruesome way. I felt numb and emotionless. The only person that brought joy to my life, was gone and there was nothing I could do to get her back.
