CHAPTER 3 MATE?

1335 Words
Logan “Oh... crap,” I was instantly aware of the blunder I had made. The deafening silence from the crowd made me feel even worse. I had been feeling signs of the mate pull all through the night, but I hadn't expected it to be the werewolf captive my men had caught in their trap. My composure slipped away from me when my eyes met hers. She was nothing short of enchanting, even though she was bound as a prisoner. Why would the moon goddess choose to set me up in such a horrible manner, by giving me a mate from the biggest enemy of my people? At that moment, I felt cheated and betrayed, not just by the moon goddess, but also by Drexel. My wolf couldn't restrain from her irresistible honey vanilla scent which seemed to have a little bit of honeysuckle in it. I had to get away from the scene as soon as I could. My feet picked up the pace, as I made for the door that led away from the stage. “Take her away!” I ordered the men as I hurried for my chamber. I needed to be alone for the moment, as the stigma was too much to bear. They hurriedly came running, probably wondering what had suddenly come over me. ‘Isn't she lovely?’ Drexel echoed in my head, as I made for my chamber. He was still reeling from the touch, scent, and taste of the werewolf who was his fated mate. ‘Her scent is irresistible and it suits her perfect looks just fine—’ ‘Shut it, Drexel,’ I snapped at him in my head to keep shut and quit interfering with my thoughts. I still had to deal with the possible scandal of having kissed a werewolf in front of all my people. The murmurs from the crowd were just too much for me to handle, even though I couldn’t make out what exactly they were saying to themselves about me. But I knew that there could be nothing positive in their conversations. But that wasn’t what bothered me the most. I was more worried about Amaya, my chosen mate. What the heck was I going to tell her had just happened? No amount of words would be enough to explain what had just happened. I hurriedly walked back into the fortress, as though I was in search of where to hide from my shame. Almost immediately I walked into my room and shut the door. There was a knock. I didn’t need anyone telling me who it was. “Come in…” I said, as I prepared the explanations I wanted to give to Amaya. “Amaya…” I called her name, trying to ease the incoming tension that slowly settled in the room. “What the heck just happened out there?” she asked with her brows furrowed. There was no way I was going to blame it on the mate pull. I couldn’t let her know that I was mated to the prisoner. That put pressure on me to make up something, even though I felt bad doing that. “Amaya… it’s not what you think—” “Of course, it’s not…” she cut in, with the fierceness of her jealous rage. “You kissed her with so much passion in front of the entire pack. What the heck am I even supposed to think?” I was silent for a while, as I took in a deep breath. There was no explanation for what I had just done. “It was all a mistake, and it meant nothing…” “How do you expect me to feel about you kissing a girl in front of everyone, three days to my coronation as your Luna?” she wasn’t done expressing her pain to me. “You can’t just blame it on some mistake—” That time, it was my turn to interrupt her, but I did that with a kiss. I put a whole lot of passion into the way I kissed her and held her to myself. But then, the feeling was nothing to be compared with the electrical feeling I felt while kissing the prisoner to whom I was mated. That realization had me troubled, as I wondered what exactly I was going to do with the sudden surfacing of my mate. No matter how hard I was trying, Amaya didn’t seem to fill the void that had been left in my very being by the prisoner girl. Somehow I still had to keep up the act, like I was enjoying kissing Amaya like I used to before. “You mean much more to me, Amaya…” I said the words, even though my wolf was desiring the prison girl. I felt terrible within myself, as I clutched Amaya in my hands. Who could I disclose this horrible secret to? “I believe you…” she replied, as she was almost throwing herself into my embrace. “I guess since you have no use for her, you could just execute her or throw her away from the pack.” “Oh… right…” my heart skipped at that suggestion. There was no way I could do away with my mate, but I couldn’t displease Amaya as well. I was stuck in what I thought to be the most terrible dilemma yet, and it was all happening right when I was on the brink of crowning myself a new Luna. “I will have to go sort it out now…” “All right… I’ll be waiting here for you… in that dress you like…” Her whisper was so seductive, but then, I was disappointed that she wasn’t going to give me the same sparks I had gotten from the prisoner girl. “Sure thing…” I replied with a smile just to make her feel all right. “I’ll be back before you know it…” With that, I left the room and made hurriedly for the room where I had ordered my men to keep her. Even at that moment, her scent filled my nostrils, and that made me feel quite weak in the knees. But I stayed on my feet somehow. I intended to sound as harsh as I could and give no room for niceness whatsoever. I put my hand on that door knob and pushed the door open. “Who are you?” We both chorused the question to each other in quite an awkward moment. There were just too many emotions running through me at the same time. I was trying my best not to give in to the mate who was pulling me so strongly. With each passing moment, I was beginning to see everything amazing about her. From her long, black silky hair to her fair skin which had felt smooth in my hands, to her amazing shape, which had my mind straying to places I didn’t want it to go— places like what she would look like when I finally took that dress off her. “Ugh…” I sighed in annoyance, even though I wasn’t sure who or what exactly to be annoyed with. “Just don’t kill me, please…” she pleaded. “I had no idea when I was straying into lycan territory. It was unintentional. Please don’t—” “Quiet!” I ordered as I was putting every effort I could to be cruel, but it just wasn’t working. Before I knew it, I was walking towards her with those wild intentions in my head. “What is your name?” “S… Sabrina…” she blurted out frightfully. And for some reason, she wasn’t backing away from me. I reached for her waist and was about to repeat the same thing that had happened out there just a few minutes ago. Just when my lips were about to come on hers, the door suddenly opened.
