Chapter5

I walked into the club, the banging sounds of the loud music gave me a headache, but I didn't care; I needed a distraction amid the chaos. I walked straight to the bar. “It's hard to believe, but there is a reason I did what I did”, Simon’s voice kept replaying in my head as I gestured to the bartender for shots. I took three simultaneously. This isn't usually my escape from chaos; but tonight, it is my last resort. I felt really light-headed and dizzy. Images of Simon's betrayal kept replaying in my head. I remember how he had looked me in the eye and found his release with that blond lady. “There is a reason I did what I did” his words kept coming to me. I was losing my balance through all the shots and loud music. I staggered through the crowd of tipsy men and women dancing as I tried to find my way out of the club. I looked in the direction my car was parked; I saw a familiar figure, I could only recognize those huge arms from one place. It was Simon; I furrowed my brows, stretching my head forward a bit to be sure it was not alcohol making me see things. I blinked and wiped my eyes, but he was still there. I could not control the heat I felt in my insides, sending a hint of consciousness back to my brain. I was just thinking of him and there he was, a lady was before him. She seemed just as tipsy as I was staggering from side to side before Simon. I caught the sight of her hands brushing through his chin as she pulled closer to him, taking his lips in hers. “ I don't think you want to watch that” I heard from behind, it was Lucian. “How did you find me?” I asked, my head banging from the alcohol and what I had just seen. Lucian smiled, his eyeballs glowing in the night light. “Oh well, I am the king of Nightlife Taz”. I rolled my eyes, he was right. Of course Lucian was at the club too. He had a record for holding things down at various clubs in Birmingham. For the first time, I was glad he showed up when he did. “Get me out of here!” I said. He ushered me into his car and we drove off. “You should be careful out here” Lucian broke the silence, “You are gorgeous Taz,” he said, his eyes ogling my partly exposed bosom. I rolled my eyes. Of course, he was back to his flirty ways. “I needed a distraction!” I started, feeling a little sober. “Come with me to the office tomorrow” I blurted out. I needed someone to distract me if I was to meet with Simon again tomorrow and Lucian seemed perfect. “So you need my pretty face to make Simon Jealous” he said, a smirk plastered on his face. “ I need a distraction!” I said again. “I owe you,” I added as my gaze met his. Lucian’s lips curved into a smile. “Deal” he said. The rest of the ride home was silent. **************** I stepped out of the car, my assistant leading the way; Tracy was filling me in on my schedule for the day. I walked as fast as her legs could carry me, yet I maintained my beauty and graceful aura. My hair cascaded down my shoulder. I raised my head to meet Simon’s gaze. Our eyes locked, but I didn't flinch. I kept replying to the lady, maintaining eye contact with him till he looked away from my direction. Just as I was about to head into the building, Lucian arrived. He had just stepped out of a black G-wagon, his hair neatly slicked to the back. He earned the steer of every lady around as he gracefully swung his shoulder heading towards me. He whispered something from behind into my ears and I smiled. I felt Simon was looking in our direction, but he walked right past us and headed into the building. My heart was racing now. I had been expecting him to act jealous, but he seemed to have his s**t together. I was not backing down, Lucian and I had our arms intertwined as we headed into the building, earning a lot of steering and murmuring. “Miss Smith”, Simon started, all the board members were seated and paying attention. “ I would like to proceed with my speech,” he said, stealing a gaze at Lucian. I could see his defense starting to crumble as he stood before the board. Tazlyn. Lucian smiled at me. He acted like a demi god and blatantly ignored Simon's presence. “Go on, Mr. Stones,” i let out. “Em OK,” he looked directly at the projector, then at us just in time to catch me giggling at something Lucian had whispered to me. “Can he excuse us?” He blurted out to my satisfaction. I smirked at the thought that his insides were probably churning from disgust. At that point, I couldn't care less what the other board members thought. I just wanted Him to get a taste of his own medicine “ Excuse me?” I said, glaring at him, my brows raised. “This is a boardroom, not a lovers' nest” he continued, his voice becoming louder and stern now. “Mr Handsome can excuse us, or at least allow you a little focus”. My eyes pierced into his. I was enraged. The effrontery he had to ask Lucian to excuse us. I had seen this man with another lady just last night. It's only been a few days after the divorce and after his blatant lie and excuse for cheating. “This is my company” I said through gritted teeth, taking a stand with my hands hitting the table as I spoke. “Mr Stones, if you cannot concentrate on your speech, that is not any of my business. You should take a break and put yourself together.” All the while, Lucian had just posed there, he had a dangerous smirk on his face. I could tell he was enjoying the attention. “Perverted bastard,” Simon muttered under his breath. “Excuse me?” I said angrily. “Nothing!” He yelled leaving the room. I smiled at the new wave of accomplishment I felt. ***************** I walked towards the parking lot to find Lucian. He had excused himself to take a call after the meeting concluded. WHAM He took off his glasses and threw them away. He seemed furious as he spoke on the phone. “You should be thankful I did not rat you out to the authorities” he said through gritted teeth. Unaware of my presence “You are responsible for Mr Smith's death, a killer. Just do as I say, or you end up behind bars” he said to the unknown caller. “Mr Smith,? You know who killed dad?”……… I said from behind my voice, shaky as tears welled up in my eyes. Lucian became silent and looked me in the eye. Evidently shocked that I had followed him.
