Chapter 64: So Long, Cowboy
Matthew demanded that I meet him at our coffee shop, Renegade’s Beans. It was seven o’clock in the morning, and the place had more patrons inside than I could count. Again, he and I sat at the same table as before, across from each other.
I asked, “Where is Aiden?”
“With his Aunt Flo.”
“Your sister?”
He shook his head. “Aiden’s mother has a twin sister. He’s safe there. They spend some quality time together once in a while. I trust her with him.”
“You look down,” I told him. And he did: saggy eyes, extra scruff on his chin and cheeks, hair that looked super mussed. “What’s going on in your life? Tell me about it. I’m here to listen.”
