THE CROWNED GEM
In the 19th century, Wales was known for it's admiring qualities and it's ravishing beauty. It was high of Royal standard. Even Queen of Lodine, Queen Anna, was said to have hailed from one of the kingdoms in Wales. The land was blessed with milk and honey, they had evergreen vegetation, a mild climate and fresh water springs, of which the people get drinking water from. Wales also have mountains and most travelers stated that the mountains reached the clouds. In this time, there were no cars, no telephone, no speed boat, no media expect for the letters and newspapers. Nothing to make jobs more easier but, everyone still lived to the fullest and was happy.
Wales like stated earlier, has kingdoms and each kingdom has their culture of which them abide to, and are blessed with fertile soil. Some kingdoms were not at peace with one each other, and so went against one another, so as to increase their population and acquire more landscape. But when other nations, threatens the peace of Wales; the kingdoms do not haste to come together and make sure to win the war.
There were two well known kingdoms Haza and Bon, have been enemies for years. When a new king takes over the thrown, it was expected of him to keep up the fight with his strategy. They hated themselves so much and always declared wars. And since the two kingdoms, had fine great warriors, none surrendered to the other. No one could tell the reason behind the the cold hatred for each other but sure thing was that, no one was ready to surrender to the other ans the conflict would not end anytime soon.
Haza is an Island located at the heart of Wales. The Island was surrounded with crystal water and the floor of the ocean can be seen. The land was the most fertile and other kingdom envied them, they sold most of their items to other kingdoms.
The king of Haza, king Beldon was a tall hairy handsome man, he was reaspected in and out of his kingdowm.
King Beldon had a daughter, whose name was Mayah! Mayah, from the age of ten, was always covered with a veil and was not seen regular.
And as time flew fast, link a blink of an eye, the little cherished princess, Mayah, had grown into a beautiful goddess. The beauty was only seen by those who cared for her and her parents.
There was a well-welcomed culture among the kingdoms and it involved the daughters of every family.
Every year, first six months are used to train their matured daughters how to be good house wives, while the last six months was called Season. In this Season, it was expected of every home to present their grown daughters; ripened enough for marriage out. Age that where accepted was from sixteen.
When the Season want to begin, that is at the ending of the month of June; mothers would go shopping and get latest dresses, shoes, cosmetics and jewelries for their daughters. And on the 1st of July, mothers took their daughters to the king, with the audience of bachelors from far and near kingdoms. The noble bachlors would see the beautiful maidens and pick who they want to woo for the Season, and if lucky, they would get married or engaged before the Season ends.
Princess Mayah got to the ripen-age and was presented to the palace court on the normal occasion. She was announced first because she was royal and as soon as Mayah's veil was removed, the entire congregation was dumbfounded.
Mothers knew it was bad luck for their daughters; for Mayah's beauty was irresistible. The bachlors giggled in their loud whispers, they could not wait for the wooing of maidens to begin.
“Her skin looks like a pearl!”
“She is beautiful and I am sure she will get the gem of season.”
“I have never seen her without her veil but seeing this now, my son must marry her!”
“Her skin glows and looks soft! She is beautiful!”
“Her eyes are seducing!”
“I have never seen sure beauty! She is worth so much!”
Whispers covered the court and Queen Evelyn couldn't help but smile. She really worked hard for this day to come. With the rate of whispers, Queen Evelyn was assured that in no time, her daughter would get engage.
Other maidens were presented too, and those also who wished to serve the Royal home too, but the maids were picked by Queen Evelyn. The maidens for the Season would be asked questions and also given small taskes, like to serve tea and cookies to the judges and while the act is carried out, everyone eyes rest on them.
“Miss Whitney, please serve me a cup of tea!” One of the judges said and while the orders were carried out, every eyes was on her and she spilled alittle drop. She was nervous!
“With so many eyes staring, how do they expect the girls to do this so nicely?”
“I pray my daughter does it right!”
After the end of the presentation of maidens, Princess Mayah was picked by the judges and crowned the ‘Gem Of The Season’.
“After all have been tested, Princess Mayah was found worth the title! So we announce Princess Mayah the daughter of our great King, King Beldon, the Gem Of the Season.”
Annoyed mothers, criticized that Mayah's beauty was as a result of the expensive items used to maintain her, and since she came from a purple blood, she lacked nothing, the best would be used on her. Some said it was not right, and the judge had cheated but many who knew Mayah's beauty was worth the title, congratulated her.
A mere music was played and all noble bachlors and prince ran to seek Mayah's hand. The dance floor turned to become a battlefield for bachlors.
“Her eyes are so blue like the sky and her skin glows like a stone in the sea. Princess Mayah is beautiful! Do you see the way they drag her?” Mrs Fiona told her son, who seem to be lost in the beauty of another.
“Mother I know but she has too many suitors already! I do not wish to mingle!” Lord Harper gently removed his mother's hand and walked to meet the maiden, whose beauty has captured his sight and heart.
She was alone, dancing to herself but did not bother. She seem cheerful even when no one wished to dance with her. Lord Harper from far, loved everything, from her silly dancing to when she bends backwards. On her third try, she missed balance and fell on the arm of Lord Harper, a fine young man of whom she blushed for.
“May I?” Lord Harper requested and the maiden smiled while blushing.
She placed her hand on his and they began to dance. She was indeed as beauty as every other girl but her will to be happy even when no one noticed her, was what dragged his attention.
“May I know the name of the beautiful maiden I dance with?” he asked and she looked up to meet his eyes.
“Call me Rayah!” The maiden replied and looked away. It was obvious that, she was shy! And it make the gentle man smile. He already love her and wished to know who she was.
