Chapter 9: Facing A Mother's Wrath

1316 Words
I woke up super early as I had to report at Mr Grayson’s house at 6! I looked at my small alarm and saw that it was 4am and just looking at the clock tired me.     I was so cozied up that I didn’t want to leave my bed and just sleep for a couple of hours more or maybe even the whole day!    Come on, I deserved that! I dealt with so much drama, the past couple of days and they drained every ounce of energy I had left in me.    I stared into the darkness of my ceiling, wondering what would happen in my first day of work.    Nothing related to this job was great at all! An arrogant boss, negative first impressions, a job post that I had no idea about and oh don’t forget that I had to work in my boss’s house! How weird was that? And to top it off, he called me at freaking 6am! I literally wasn’t looking forward to anything at all!    Knowing how important the job is though, I harnessed some energy and dragged my body into the bathroom to freshen up.    After spending a good half an hour in the bathroom, I walked out in my bath robe and sat on my work desk to get nice and glammed for the job.    Well, not technically glammed, I just put on some light foundation, some blush and a soft red lipstick. And not forgetting the large amounts of concealer to cover up my dark circles.    Subsequent to getting ready, I left the house ignoring Katie and dad as I didn’t want any unnecessary stress.    An hour later, I arrived at Mr Grayson’s house! Wait, it didn’t look like a house, it was a whole mansion!     My eyes admired the giant white structure rising up from the ground towards the sky. Its majestic design, blocked the light from behind and casted a shadow at the front of the house near the huge black iron gates. I walked up to the gate only to hear a guy’s voice appear out of nowhere. I got startled and jumped out of surprise.     I looked at my surroundings and found not a single soul present in the vicinity. I got worried but as soon as I squinted at the black box near the gate on a white brick wall, I realised that the voice came out from the intercom.     My hand gripped the handle of my handbag tight. I walked inside the property as instructed by the guy at the intercom who verified who I was, through the security cameras that were surrounding the mansion.    I walked inside to find a glamorous vibrant garden of flowers blooming gracefully in the early morning while the sprinklers quenched their thirst.    Tiny drops of cool water touched my face as I was passing through the garden. The combination of the vibrant colours of the flowers, the water and the peaceful morning made me feel like heaven truly was on earth.    I closed my eyes to enjoy the breathtaking moment and continued to walk ahead towards the main entrance of the house that was sealed with a humongous white painted wooden door.    However, paradise only lasted for a few minutes as I was greeted by an angry German Shepherd when I accidentally stepped on his tail while walking.     To make matters worse for me, the dog wasn’t chained to anything and he started stepping closer to me.     Each time his four paws advanced, the more my two fragile legs retreated.    Suddenly without any warning, he picked up speed and started dashing towards me, leaving me completely astonished.    I turned the opposite way and started running for my life from that ferocious dog that was chasing me like an animal.    After some time of running for my life, I didn’t look down and suddenly slipped and fell over a raised portion of the ground near the front door of the mansion.    The impact was hurtful but not damaging luckily but my fate was now sealed as the dog caught up to me.    As he started getting closer, I let out a scream that was forced out by my body. But the scream wasn’t enough to tame the dog and he didn’t budge from his path.    I placed my arms over my eyes and started breathing heavily. I was so shaken from my core that I didn’t know what would happen to me next.    However to my surprise, the next thing I heard was a threatening woman’s voice appear behind me in a harsh tone.    “Spencer, heal!” the woman uttered.     At that very moment, the dog stopped charging towards me and sat down onto the concrete floor, while wagging its fluffy tail.    I was so grateful for whoever was behind me so I turned around with a happy expression on my face to thank her.    Unfortunately things didn’t go well for me...as usual.    “You?!” she exclaimed with an angry look on her face. She glared at me as if I had committed a heinous crime.    I picked myself up from the ground and dusted my clothes that were covered with dust particles from the impact.    I looked straight in the eyes of the woman who was attired in a white high ruched sleeveless turtleneck with a lime coloured blazer over the top and a white and black checkered pant.    She paired the outfit with a pair of matte lime coloured heels and some gold earrings that gave out a nice shine.    I was confused as to what she meant as I never crossed paths with her ever in my life. Still, I was trying to remember if I had come across her face before even for a split second but to no avail.    I walked up towards her to thank her for her rescue despite her very ‘odd’ behaviour.    To my surprise, she started yelling at the top of her voice once I stood right in front of her.    “You were the one who spilled coffee and insulted my son, right?!”     After hearing this while she pointed her finger right at my face, my soul left my body! I was standing in front of Mr Grayson’s mother.     Why did he inform his mother about the incident? Judging by the look on her face, I knew I was dead meat at that point. She looked at me with blood shot eyes, waiting to strangle me or so.    “Ma’am-” I tried to give context to my rude and clumsy behaviour the previous day but she wasn’t ready to even listen to a word that I had to say. She caught me off guard by extending her hand and tightly gripping my arm.    And without any further explanation, she dragged me towards the gate with immense force. She was determined to throw me out of the place.     I tried my best to break free but her grip was so tight that I hurt my fingers while trying to loosen her grip.    Tears started flowing from my eyes as Mrs Wright’s treatment reminded me of Katie’s behaviour towards me. I truly didn’t want another Katie in my life.     As she was beginning to fling me out the gate, a deep loud voice appeared and yelled, “Stop!”    At the command of that voice, Mrs Wright stopped near the edge of the property and didn’t move an inch.    I turned my tearful face towards the voice to see a man standing tall near the entrance of the mansion.    To my surprise it was Mr Grayson.
