A NEW BEGINNING
Daniella stepped onto the campus grounds, her heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nerves. The sprawling university looked even bigger than she had imagined—towering lecture halls, bustling pathways, and laughter echoing from every corner. She clutched her bag tightly, trying to steady herself as students hurried past, already deep in friendships and routines she had yet to discover.
Her eyes caught a familiar face—her assigned roommate waving enthusiastically, a friendly smile that immediately eased some of her tension. “You must be Daniella! I’m Chioma. Don’t worry, you’ll love it here,” she said, pulling Daniella into a quick tour of their hostel.
As they walked, Daniella noticed a tall, confident student standing by the fountain. Their eyes met briefly, and she felt a strange flutter in her chest. She shook her head, blaming the nerves for the sudden warmth in her cheeks. Little did she know, this chance glance would be the start of something unforgettable.
Later that evening, as she unpacked her belongings, Daniella reflected on her first day. New beginnings were always exciting but also challenging. She realized that this journey would test her patience, her courage, and her heart. The friendships she would form, the lessons she would learn, and perhaps the love she might find—all awaited her in this new chapter. And somehow, she felt ready.
Once inside their shared room, Daniella set down her bag and let out a sigh. Chioma neatly arranged her things, giving the room a welcoming, orderly feel. “So, tell me about yourself. Where are you from? What course are you doing?” Chioma asked softly, her tone gentle yet curious.
Daniella hesitated, then said, “I’m from Anambra State. I applied to study Law… but they gave me Sociology instead. I was really hoping for law.”
Chioma nodded, her expression understanding. “I get it. It’s disappointing when things don’t go as planned. But sociology isn’t the end of the world—you’ll learn a lot about people and society. And who knows? Maybe this is exactly where you’re supposed to be.”
As they unpacked their belongings side by side, Daniella felt herself relaxing. Chioma’s good nature, her calm confidence, and the sense that she genuinely cared made Daniella feel like she had a safe place in this huge, intimidating campus. “It feels good… having someone to start with,” Daniella admitted quietly.
Just then, Daniella noticed a tall, confident student standing by the fountain outside. Their eyes met briefly, and she felt a strange flutter in her chest. Chioma nudged her lightly. “Daydreaming already? Campus has a way of surprising you—sometimes good, sometimes… complicated,” she said, smiling knowingly.
Soon, it was nighttime, and Daniella drifted into a deep sleep.
