"Remember this, Shiro, when you find yourself in a dire and unnerving situation, just do this. Blow softly on your thumb"
Tears were flowing down from my eyes again. I opened my eyes and sat up. It was a dream. That was Dad’s voice. I closed my eyes and tried to think about the dream again. For some reason, I don’t remember anything.
“You’re dreaming again?”, asked Nami who was already standing on the doorway.
“Y’Yeah…about – “
“Dad?”, she continued.
“How’d you know?”
“Because you were murmuring in your sleep,” said Auntie Saiko who appeared behind Big Sis.
I blushed. “D-Did I disturb your sleep?”, I asked. “G-Gomen…(S-Sorry…)”
Big Sis brushed her hair. “Don’t apologize…it’s normal for you to dream about Otoosan (Dad),” Big Sis replied as she sat beside me. “Remember, I am here for you, okay?”, she reminded as she hugged me.
“Y-Yes, I will!”, I replied in a hurry.
“Ara Ara (Well, well), Shiro is blushing,” Auntie Saiko said as she sat beside me and hugged with Nami-neesan.
“N-Nyaaahhhh!,” I complained. “You’re pressing too hard!”
They just laughed and stood. “Go take your bath now. Breakfast will be ready soon,” Nami-neesan reminded before going downstairs with Auntie Saiko.

I won’t say my day got better after that. I hopped off Aunt’s car without Big Sis. She went earlier than me as she was going to prepare for some class report. I went to my room alone. There were only a few who were sitting in the room, some who were taking a short nap and some were copying each other’s homework. I looked at my phone. It was still too early. Class wouldn’t start until fifteen minutes. I decided to go to the comfort room first so that, well you know, avoid talking to my classmates. I got outside the room and BAM! Someone just ran into me. I quickly knelt and picked the books and stuff that dropped right into my shoes.
“I’m sorry,” we said at the same time. The voice was a familiar one. I gave the books and recognized her face. It was Midorima-senpai.
“Thanks,” she said.
“Dou itashimashite (You’re welcome),” I replied as I try not to get nervous.
She leaned in and got near to my face. I can’t help but blush. Her neck smelled so sweet. Thousands of thoughts circled my mind. Why was she doing this? Does she have a crush on me?
“Remember your dreams,” she whispered. My eyes widened in surprise. She walked away as if nothing happened. I literally froze in place. How would she know? There is literally no way she’d know my dreams. Besides, we’re not that close. I am just a perfect stranger to her.
“Hey, Mamoru-kun!”, Thyme shouted at me.
I looked behind. Thyme and Fritz were walking towards me together. “Thyme-chan! Fritz-kun!”
“You’re outside the corridors?”, asked Fritz.
“And you’re even the earliest of us three?”, Thyme added.
“Don’t bombard me with questions, you two. You’re early too and even came together at the same time. Why is that?”, I replied in defense. They opened their mouths and were about to answer when the bell rang.
“Come on, let’s get inside,” said Fritz who was getting inside in a hurry. His and Thyme’s cheeks were both blushing red.
“Yeah, we don’t wanna be late, do we?”
“But, you still haven’t answered my question!”
They just laughed and sat on their seats. As annoying as they are, they’re the only friends I’ve got. I sat on my seat and waited for our first teacher.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Kiba-sensei’s the next teacher today,” said one of my classmates.
"I heard he was acting weird on the previous class," another added.
"Yeah. They said he just stared at the whole bunch of them as they answered a 100-question test," someone whispered.
Thyme patted me in the back. "Have you heard?" she asked.
"Yeah...obviously," I replied and gestured her towards our gossiping classmates.
Fritz sat at the arm of the armchair and joined the conversation. "I just talked with a girl from the other class and they said that Kiba-sensei really is acting more aggressive lately. He gave them a 100-question test. Can you imagine that?”
I imagined answering a 100-question test. It really is a very long quiz and I may answer them all but picturing myself answering it, it really looks weird. “It’s not as if we can do anything. Besides, if Kiba-sensei wants us to answer it, we have to,” I said. I just went with the flow but the truth is I think the day is getting weirder. An hour ago, a girl who isn’t even close with me told me something that I could only know. Then, a strict teacher becomes a sadistic person making all his students answer a 100-question test surprise. What’s next? Flying pigs and talking cows?
“Hey, Kiba-sensei is coming!” said one of the boys. We quickly returned to our seats and straightened. Kiba-sensei entered the class with a big pile of papers in his left hand though I don’t have any idea how he can hold something that heavy with a single hand.
“Ohayou gouzaimasu, Kiba-sensei!(Good morning, Sir Kiba!),” all of us greeted at the same time. He didn’t respond. Instead, after we greeted, he walked straight to his table and put the pile of papers.
“Sit down,” he said with a hint of annoyance. “As you may have heard, I am giving you a hundred-item test today. However, this class is a special one. So, I excuse you all today and instead…”
He got something out of his vest and before we can react, the teacher threw a flask of purple-colored stuff on us. The whole class suddenly fell down unconsciously as purple smoke covered the whole room. Meanwhile, I didn’t feel anything. Surprisingly, Thyme and Fritz did not faint too.
“Hmmm, as I expected, you three ain’t normal humans,” Kiba-sensei said as he put his hand on his chin.
“Mamoru! C’mon, hold my hand!” Thyme shouted. I looked at her. She looked shocked yet her eyes didn’t show any sign of surprise. I had no other choice but do what she said.
“Thyme-chan! Through here,” called Fritz who was already besides the open window, kneeling and prepared to jump.
“Wait, what?! We’re jumping out of the window?!” I asked.
“Yes, we are! Just trust me, okay?” Thyme replied.
“You won’t get away!” Kiba-sensei shouted and for a second, I saw fur growing on his arms. I was about to tell it to Thyme but she already pulled me and jumped out the window. I taught we were going to fall but for some reason, an ice slide led us to the ground. Fritz helped me stand and I was rubbing my hands in my butt (imagine rubbing your back and your butt in a slide entirely made of ice) when Fritz suddenly asked me something.
“Listen, Shiro. Do you remember anything from your dreams?” asked Thyme.
“Wait, what?! How did – “
“Just answer me! It could help this matter less worst,” he said.
“No, you answer me! How did you know?” I shouted. “Why is Kiba-sensei acting like that? What did he throw? W-Where did this ice slide come from?!”
Before they could answer, sharp sounds of breaking glass filled the whole school grounds followed by a great howl. In the broken windows stood Kiba-sensei except that it couldn't be him. His uniform were now tattered revealing his legs and hands which were now full of sleek brown fur. Sharp nails protruded from his shoes as well as his hands.
ROOOOAAAARRRR!!!
He roared as his form became more like a wolf. His back bent with the shape of a S in half, making him look like a hunchback. His arms suddenly elongated and his chest became buffer which teared his uniform more. Saliva flowed down his mouth which were now filled with sharp teeth.
"Listen, Shiro! Did your father said anything in your dream?" asked Thyme.
"No, nothing. He was only giving advice but besides that I don't remember anything else!," I answered.
"Then remember those advice! Now, try to run! Hide and don't let any monster get you. We'll try to hold this aswang*," Fritz said whose body was starting to glow sky blue.
(Author's Note: Aswangs - supernatural creatures in Philippine mythology that looks like a cross between a vampire and a werewolf. They possess enormous strength and can run faster than a regular human)
"W-what is happening? Y-Your body is glowing, Fritz!" I said as I backed away. I looked at Thyme whose body is now glowing green.
"Don't worry about it. It is just my Metaphor," Fritz explained.
"Your what?"
"No time to explain. Right now, your protection is our priority. If possible, try finding Nami," he added. "Now go!"
Before I could say anything, a loud BOOM! echoed in the school grounds, this time, it seemed to come from the school gym.
"Looks like my reinforcements have started to fight too," Kiba-sensei growled in a gruff voice. "Now, you cannot run away from me, little boy. You'd make a good lunch," he continued before running in my direction.
"Run, Shiro, run!"
"Hayaku! (Hurry!)"
My friends didn't have to tell me twice. I turned around and ran to my lungs' extent, Students were now running away from the school. I continued running until I reached the gym. I don't know how but two green-colored giants were lying face down on the grass. The school gym was a mess. Broken windows and wall debris were everywhere. However, what shocked me more was the scene I saw inside the gym. The giant hole in the wall revealed Big Sis and Midorima-senpai fighting the green giants. I couldn't believe what I'm seeing but judging from their green color and size, these green giants are ogres from Norse mythology. Midorima-senpai was shooting some sort of ice spikes on the ogres. Nami-neesan was in the bleachers holding a bow and shooting arrows on the ogres. The two of them looked witches in uniform which looked odd.
"Neesan!" I shouted. I immediately regretted shouting. The ogres stopped attacking the two and turned their heads on my direction. They raised their clubs and sprinted towards me.
"Shiro!" shouted Midorima-senpai and Nami-neesan on the same time. I taught I was gonna die on the spot when they suddenly froze and when I say they froze, they literally froze. All of them was covered in ice. However, some still managed to move.
"Isforstenning ! (Ice Petrification!)," Midorima-senpai shouted. Unfortunately, she was too late. Time seemed to go slow while I raised my hands in defense as I tried to shield my body from a troll's club. A shield sprouted from my right arm. Where it came from? I have no idea and I think I might never knew. The impact from the club threw me into a tree and before I knew what happened next, my vision slowly blurred and pain surged in my body. Oneesan's voice echoed through my head before my vision darkened completely.
