Fritz' P.O.V
"Hayaku!(Hurry!)" I shouted. It’s a good thing that Shiro ran since the creature that emerged right now, which is our History teacher, is a very strong one.
“Thou shalt not escape!” shouted Kiba-sensei as he sprinted in Shiro's direction. I quickly fabricated a sword from solid ice and slammed the hilt in Kiba-sensei’s face before he pounced on Shiro. He quickly flipped backward and stood.
“You are making this situation worse, little one,” he snarled as he wiped the blood trickling from his nose. “Surrender and I’ll make your death quick and painless,” he offered.
“And you think we’ll surrender to someone like you?” replied Thyme brandishing her weapon, Whiplash, a thorny elongating sword.
“Then, you’ve decided your doom. You know running is not a good option for that boy. We monsters can still smell his essence from even if he’s hiding”
“Shut up! You think we haven’t prepared for this?” I said. “My senses have been tingling since you came here”
“Good observation, kid. However, there’s one thing that you did not prepare for,” he said as he got another flask from the pockets of his ripped pants.
“W-What the hell is that, Fritz?” Thyme asked. “I’ve never seen a potion like that before.”
“I don’t know. Probably a strength enhancer,” I answered.
“Well, you see, Nordic insect,” he said as he looked at me. “I’m not your usual aswang. I come from a pure bloodline of Elders,” he smiled as he capped the flask open. He poured the contents in his mouth and shuddered. I thought he was going to die until he stood firm. His fur darkened and widened. His uniform completely ripped, revealing a much buff chest. His claws also retracted to a longer size. However, what made him look more ferocious was the tail sprouting from his back.
“A m-manticore*? B-But it can’t be. H-How –,” I stuttered
(A/N [Author’s Note]: Manticore – a monster in Persian (or Greek) mythology that is depicted to have the body of a lion, the poisonous tail of a scorpion, the face of a man and a pair of wings)
“I told you, kid. I am not your average aswang,” he said as he wagged his tail, green venom dripping from it.
“Prepare and take caution, Thyme-chan. This one now is a hybrid. I don’t know how he is doing these but he possibly can’t maintain this form for a long time,” I said gripping my sword firmly. I summoned my armament which covered my entire body quickly in solid ice. A shield made of solid ice formed in the wrist of my left hand. “Are you sure about using your armament, Fritz?” Thyme asked.
“No, I’m not but I have to. I can only maintain it for 10 minutes or so but it’s the only thing that I have against this creature,” I replied. Supposedly, Armaments are armors and equipment that Figures can use in battles. Every Armament is unique for each Figure but mine is still not perfected.“Well, I guess I must use mine too,” Thyme said as she summoned her own. Green plates of hardened and thick ivies curled around her body replacing her uniform. “I can only maintain this for 15 minutes. I still can’t perfect it too,” she said as she frowned.“You’re lucky you even got one piece of perfect armament. That’s okay as long as we hold this snarling hybrid,” I declared.“Don’t be scared. You’d be good appetizers before I maul that friend of yours over there,” Kiba-sensei said as he smiled, baring his glistening sharp teeth. “Would you stop growling, dog?” I said as I smiled cleverly. “Who are you calling a dog, stupid kid?” he growled. He pounced but I reacted faster. I raised my shield and pushed him. Even though I defended against his attack, it still penetrated myself a little bit. He regained movement quickly and whipped his tail on me. The shield wasn't able to handle much of it. Poison circled on the shield before I threw it and made a new one.“Greater Endurance, Increase Strength, Rapid Regeneration,” Thyme chanted on my back buffing both of us with enhancements. “Thanks, Thyme-chan!”“No problem, Fritz-kun,” she replied as she elongated Whiplash hitting the monster’s hand. However, it just clattered and made sparks. “Not too tough, are you?” I said as I defended against Kiba-sensei’s attacks.“His furs transformed into bristles, Fritz-kun,” Thyme said as she kept parrying the monster’s armor-like body.“Just keep him busy. I’ll try a way to immobilize him,” she added as she backed away from the fight. “Got it,” I replied as I kept dodging and defending against his attacks. He kept using his scorpion tail to hit my shield as he tried to close the gap between us. If not for my armament, I would've been succumbed to his venom. As much as I want to avoid his tail, he kept hitting my shield with it. He grazed one side of my neck and I knelt. The pain was too great. "Heal! Nullify!" I said as cast a spell within myself. The wound healed but the pain still didn't recede.
“You won’t last long, faggot,” Kiba-sensei gnarled as he kept hitting my shield.“Analysis!” I said as the monster’s status flashed above his head. His MP (Mana Points) was clearly empty and his HP (Health Points) was starting to decrease as he clawed on my shield.“You know, your lifesteal wouldn’t work well if you only hit my shield”“Die, you stupid kid!”“You go first, ugly monster,” I said. He got triggered with what I said and kept hitting my shield. He was in a fury that he didn’t notice me chanting. “As light as a feather and as hard as diamond, may this enemy in front of me freeze like a stone statue,” I chanted before dashing backward and dropping the sword. I pointed my hand on the monster and yelled, “Ice Paralysis!” A blue blast rocketed from my palm towards the astounded monster. He raised his hands in defense with no success. His hands were now covered in ice.“How could you!” he protested as he tried to unstuck his hands from each other. “Now, Thyme-chan!” I shouted as I sidestepped to my left. “Periorismos tis Anoixis!” Thyme-chan said as she finished her enchantment. The ground lit green as enormous vines sprouted from the ground and coiled around the aswang-manticore hybrid. “No! You will pay for thi- “, the voice of Kiba-sensei said as a big vine went inside his mouth as he was slowly swallowed by the vegetation. Meanwhile, Thyme fell down on her knees as she tried to catch her breath. “You fine?” I asked as I rushed to her.“Yeah, just a little disorientated. The vines will slowly transfer the monster’s essence as mana to me though but it will take time. Doing a class-A spell really is tiring,” she said.“But you did great! You’re lucky he’s got little mana left. He could’ve won if he didn't focus his tail on my shield,” I said as I helped her stand.“We need to get going. Kiba-sensei said about reinforcements. We have to find Shiro-chan and protect him,” Thyme said. We ran to the gym’s direction as we passed by students running and trying to get away from the school. Loud explosions can be heard from the gym’s direction. We hastened and arrived at the gym to find frozen ogres, and Nami and Midorima-senpai kneel over a boy. It was Shiro.“Oh my…” said a voice behind our backs. It was Aerith-san dressed in her police uniform. “What happened?!” she asked in panic as we rushed to Shiro. A ripped omamori laid flat on the ground. "The omamori shield didn't up in time. The club's impact didn't prevent Shiro-kun to be thrown into this tree," said Nami who was patching the injury on Shiro's head.
“He got hit by an ogre’s club. We were busy fighting these green monsters when he suddenly shouted at us. He should’ve ran but he didn’t. He was too worried for us,” said Midorima-senpai who was now sobbing. Thyme knelt and put her hand on Shiro’s forehead. “He’s still alive but I can’t heal him for some reason,” she said. “Wait…he’s not asleep but he’s mind is still throbbing. He…He’s on a trance!” As long as Thyme finished what she said, Shiro’s body began to glow and before we knew it, a shiny light glistened on our eyes blinding us.
