Chapter Four A note arrived from Nuritov the next morning. Gorev brought it in on a tray, interrupting Konrad’s breakfast; Konrad read it and instantly sprang up. ‘I shall be going out, Gorev, right away. Have the carriage brought round, would you?’ ‘It’s already at the door, sir,’ said Gorev, and a moment later the door opened to admit the first footman carrying Konrad’s coat, hat and cane. ‘Have you taken up mind-reading?’ Konrad asked with a grin as he quickly donned his layers. ‘Not exactly, sir,’ said Gorev, smoothing his grey hair. ‘Only the Inspector sent a boy especially, and the lad was in a tearing hurry.
