1.Midnight
In the midst of the mountains and forests, a wolf's howl echoed, tearing through the night sky and casting a desolate and mysterious night over the grasslands in the northern regions of Huaguo. The nighttime sky resembled a slate of blue, adorned with scattered twinkling stars. The surrounding woods, cloaked in darkness, revealed only faint silhouettes. It was a mundane night, akin to the vastness and tranquility that had permeated the grasslands for thousands of years. Amidst the grassland stood several tents, where hunters, wrapped in tiger skins, gathered around a bonfire to roast the spoils of the day's hunt in the jungle. The hunters of Huaguo adhered to an unwritten rule: even amidst the chaos of war, they would not release sharp arrows at the wild wolves in the forest. This was their highest tribute to the Silver Wolf Legion! They held a reverence for wolves akin to that of celestial beings! After dinner, the hunters retreated to their respective tents to rest, knowing they would venture deeper into the jungle the next day to capture more prey. With winter fast approaching, most animals in the forest would soon retreat to their dens and remain hidden throughout the winter once the first heavy snowfall arrived. Before the arrival of the first snowfall in the north, they ventured into the depths of the forest together, hoping for a successful hunt to endure the desolate winter of war. Two figures remained in the hunters' camp. One was tidying up the mess left from dinner, while the other, a sturdy figure, gazed into the distance at a cliff where a howling wolf resided. In the moonlight, the wolf's appearance and fur color were indiscernible, only its dark silhouette visible. The wolf raised its proud head high, howling at the round moon in the sky with an air of dominance and pride, yet tinged with an indescribable sense of determination. "Rest, Aodage," said the young hunter responsible for cleaning up, having finished his task and noticing the sturdy figure lost in thought. Turning towards him, the sturdy figure smiled briefly, his rugged face exuding a touch of nobility. "It's time to rest; we must rise early to venture into the mountains tomorrow," he remarked before heading towards his tent. However, just before entering, he glanced back at the cliff where the lone wolf still lingered... Taking a deep breath, he entered his tent. Meanwhile, on the cliff, a figure appeared behind the white night wolf—a swift and agile naked girl, around thirteen or fourteen years old, with dark, flowing hair cascading casually around her. Using both hands and feet, she swiftly climbed to the pinnacle of the cliff, where the howling wild wolf awaited. Her delicate face gently caressed the wolf by her side, mirroring the posture of the white wolf, which affectionately nuzzled her in response. Together, the girl and the wolf gazed at the full moon in the sky, emitting howls. Eventually, the wolf nuzzled the girl's face a few times, emitting soft whimpers, as if saying to her, "Let's go home." In the girl's eyes, a tender compliance shone through. The girl and the wolf then departed from the pinnacle of the cliff, heading towards a cave behind them. Inside the cave, the girl joined the pack of wolves, including five wolves, led by the mother wolf who had been with the girl. There were two elderly white wolves and two young white wolves, a married wild wolf couple, snuggled together in the corner, peacefully asleep with their bodies intertwined. The two elderly wolves dozed off in their usual spots. Leading the girl to a higher position, the mother wolf lay down, allowing the girl to nestle into her warm embrace. Mimicking the posture of the white wolf, the girl rested her head on her hand, curling up as she drifted into dreamland. This embrace was warm and secure, a place where she had often sought solace since she was very young, relishing the warmth and comfort it provided. In the girl's dreams, there was a scene of bloodshed and ferocity. Those "wolves" with the same appearance as herself brandished shining blades and charged into the girl's dreams, wantonly slaughtering those similar-looking "wolves," their wails and howls echoing in the girl's ears. A "male wolf" of similar age to herself hid her in a large water tank, advising her before leaving, "My sister, stay quietly inside, no matter what you see or hear, don't come out." The girl faintly remembered the "male wolf" she last saw, whom she should call her brother. In the dream, the girl let out a mournful cry, and a white mother wolf gently placed a paw on her arm, calming her down. In the darkness of night, the pair of yellow-glowing eyes of the mother wolf stared at the girl's figure, their previously gentle gleam now tinged with a hint of sorrow. Only when it confirmed that the girl had fallen asleep did the mother wolf close its own eyes. In the early morning, the early-rising birds in the jungle brought a fresh morning to all living things. The chirping woke the girl in front of the white mother wolf. She turned around and hugged the mother wolf tightly, rubbing her head against its body a few times. The mother wolf also opened its eyes, with a gentle gaze, looking at the girl in front of it. At this moment, two young white wolves approached and whimpered at them. Only then did the girl turn over and get off the stone she was resting on, seeming to wait for something on the ground. The leading mother wolf stood up and whimpered twice. The girl knew it was time for hunting. Her eyes gradually revealed a cold and determined look as she gazed towards the jungle outside the cave. The mother wolf led the two young white wolves out of the cave, and the girl followed. Hunting was their daily task. The two old wolves in the cave were already old and needed their care, just like they had raised the young wolves in the beginning. The wolf pack moved swiftly through the jungle, seeking their prey. The girl also ran through the jungle, using both hands and feet. Surprisingly, her speed could rival that of the lead mother wolf, and sometimes even surpass it. As winter approached, the wolf pack needed to stockpile food. During these days, the girl often accompanied the lead wolf for hunting, and each time, she received the lead wolf's approval. Suddenly, the lead mother wolf stopped running, her ears erect. The girl and the other two wolves also stopped and stealthily entered the bushes. The lead wolf's alertness made them all wary; it seemed that there were enemies nearby. Sure enough, a moment later, a roar echoed from the forest, as a black bear engaged in a struggle with a group of hunters. One of the hunters was struck by the black bear and spat out blood onto a tree trunk. The lead wolf, upon hearing the black bear's roar, flashed a fierce glint in its eyes. It stepped out of the bushes and gazed arrogantly in the direction of the sound. The bear was not originally from this forest; this was the territory of the wolf pack. However, for some unknown reason, it had invaded the gathering place of the wolves and even killed several wolves that were foraging. This forest was home to several wolf groups, and the girl's small wolf pack was just a small part of them. During the summer, the animals in the forest were very active, so the wolf packs hunted separately. Once winter arrived, the forest animals became scarcer, and the wolves would gather together to endure the harsh cold. Nearly forty wolves lived in this forest, which could be called the "Forest of Wolves" in the vicinity. Among the wolves killed during the summer, one belonged to the girl's small wolf pack. Unfamiliar with the enemy, it was severely injured by the bear, fighting until the end before falling. They stayed by the side of their injured companion and refused to leave, but within a few days, it died. At this moment, the lead wolf's eyes were filled with hatred, and it issued a low command to the two hidden wolves and the girl. They slowly advanced towards the source of the sound, intending to avenge their fallen comrade. These days of hatred prompted them to gradually understand this enemy, and they intended to strike a decisive blow. Just then, several hunters also heard the rustling sounds in the nearby forest and began to feel afraid. One of them asked the lead hunter, "Ao, do we have other fierce beasts behind us?" The lead hunter, completely focused on the black bear in front of him, whispered, "Be careful, everyone!" The black bear, baring its teeth and claws, was clearly furious. The hunters dared not underestimate it, feeling somewhat panicked as they were caught in a difficult situation. They had encountered the troublesome black bear as soon as they entered the forest in the morning, and now, they were being targeted by another fierce animal. It seemed that they might lose their lives here today. As the hunters anxiously strained, a howl suddenly emerged from the jungle. It was the lead wolf issuing a command. From the bushes, three wolves leaped towards the black bear. Before the hunters could react, the black bear struck one of the white wolves with a paw, causing it to collapse. The remaining two wolves glared hatefully at the black bear, calmly preparing for a second attack. The wolf knocked down by the black bear rose again, seemingly not seriously injured. Its icy gaze held a deep-seated hostility as it emitted a low growl from its throat. In the forest behind the hunters, there came a rustling sound. They all watched intently as this sudden confrontation between the wolf and the bear unfolded. Although they didn't understand why these wolves had suddenly appeared to help them, one thing was certain: for the time being, these wolves would not consider them as prey. When the lead wolf issued the signal to attack again, the hunters saw the three wolves pounce at the same time. Suddenly, a figure leaped from the bushes and rushed toward the black bear, moving so swiftly that almost no one could see clearly what kind of "creature" it was. They only saw a flesh-colored figure, creating a gust of wind as it dashed to the front of the black bear, instantly causing the bear to emit a heartrending cry, as a large hole appeared in its body. In agony, the bear furiously swiped at the "creature," but the "creature" swiftly dodged the bear's paw, leaping onto the bear and biting its neck. Then, the "creature" forcefully tugged at the bear's head, and blood sprayed from the bear's neck. At this moment, the three white wolves also firmly bit into the black bear, but the bear, still incredibly powerful, swatted the "creature" on its back with a heavy blow. The long-haired "creature" winced, but only separated from the bear after it was struck. However, the bear was now left struggling, as the three wolves had torn its body apart. It was only at this moment that the dumbfounded hunters could see clearly that the "creature" was actually a blood-covered girl, with no covering on her body except for her long black hair, giving her an eerie, bloodthirsty appearance. Despite being struck by the black bear, she still cast a hateful gaze at its lifeless body.
