*Blaze POV*
I swear that if Flynn doesn’t calm his nuts, I’m going to lose my s**t. We were asked to stay seated until Detective Nolan came back. She wanted to speak with us one on one, and without the watchful eyes and ears of the asshole that set him off.
Instead, he gets up and storms out of the room and says he will be back. He needed to talk to a supervisor who could take detective dickhead off of this case.
“I wish he hadn’t gotten involved with this. It’s messed him up pretty badly, and it’s obvious he hates me now,” Brie whispered.
I told her to quit worrying about Flynn. He was only looking out for her, and if he didn’t care, he would’ve just washed his hands of it all.
“Mr. Spicer, may I speak with you alone?” Detective Nolan asked. I nodded, and followed her into another office. She motioned for me to sit, and asked if I needed anything before she began.
I shook my head, and waited for her to speak. The way she was acting made me nervous, and once she began to speak, it was for good reason.
“I’m going to be blunt with you, Mr. Spicer. No one doubts that something happened with Brie. It’s only because Erik saw the same thing as your friend that she is getting any type of credit at all. I’m afraid that when the talks of what happened to her come up, it’s your lifestyle that keeps being brought into the picture. Your influence over your sister is being questioned, and Mr. Dugan’s attorney is claiming that your sister is, well, easy. Your sister claims she is a virgin still, and the only way to prove her claims, is to do a rape kit to check to see if her hymen is still intact. I will tell you one thing, either way it turns out, there was proof of an assault. Whether we can get him for s****l assault is going to be the question,” she explained.
I had to really remind myself that I was in a police station. What she insinuated was bullshit. My club would never negatively influence her. When things got too wild, she stayed in the house. She never saw the crazy parties, and we kept everything as far away from the house as possible.
I wish people would look at the good we do, instead of the rowdy side. We donate loads of money to this hellhole of a town, we feed the hungry, for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We do a toy drive for families who need help for the holidays, and we are constantly doing charitable work for the hospitals in the area. It’s not just all parties all the time.
“I know you aren’t an attorney or a judge, but say they have him for s****l assault on the other girls, what kind of time will he get?” I asked.
“Well, it’s going to be based on the age of the girl when the assault started. Most were over the age of fourteen, so the max sentence would be five years per count, plus a hefty fine. There are eleven girls who are under the age of fourteen, and that is six years. So, if he is found guilty on those charges alone, that’s sixty-six years. He will be going away for a long time. If he is convicted of the physical assault on your sister, he will serve a minimum of ninety months,” she replied.
A year and a half. If anything at all. I want to leave it up to her to choose where we go from here. It’s her that will be subjected to this test.
“Thank you for clearing that up. I need to talk to my sister about all of this. I don’t keep secrets from her, and since it is her that will have to go through everything, it should be her choice,” I explained.
She said she would need an answer before we left, and I told her I would get back with her as soon as I spoke to Brie. I got up from the chair, and left to find her.
In the hallway, she was speaking to her friend and her parents. I wanted her to do this test. Maybe if I mentioned what Detective Nolan had said in front of them, they could help me convince her.
“I’m sorry to interrupt. I’m Blaze Spicer, Brie’s older brother,” I said as I introduced myself. Brie introduced Heather and her parents, and explained to me that they had just gotten word that Dugan had denied touching any of the girls, and was claiming all the documented proof was fake.
The prosecutor told them that they found the same videos and pictures on his phone and laptop. So his argument wouldn’t hold up.
“Well, we may have a situation with Brie’s case. Sis, they want you to go to the hospital for a rape kit to prove that you are still a virgin. Because they can’t use DNA, they may not have much of a case with you. She said that the most they may be able to prove is aggravated assault, and the maximum he will get is a year and a half for your case,” I explained.
She began to cackle. “Good. Let’s go. I have nothing to hide. A year and a half was at least something. What happens if he’s convicted of everything else?” she asked.
Mrs. Williams answered her question, and it was a little different from what I was told.
“I know in Heather’s case, because there is video and photographic proof, as well as the results from the rape kit, he can receive a maximum of five years for the rape, and I believe she said up to two years per count for possessing pornographic material for the videos and photos. Each one is a count, and there are dozens of them. If it’s just a case of s****l assault, then it’s max five years,” she explained.
She took Brie’s hand, and looked my sister in the eyes. In a motherly way, she told Brie that if she was her daughter, she would encourage her to do whatever the police and prosecutor wanted. If it just turned into a measly year and a half, then at least it was something.
Brie agreed to go and have the ER perform the rape kit. I didn’t expect them to find any kind of DNA, but it would prove to them that my sister wasn’t a loose kind of girl. Something I already knew.
"If you would like, Blaze, I can take her. It might be less embarrassing for her if a woman took her instead of her big brother," Mrs. Williams offered.
I glanced at Brie, and she answered for me. "Yes. Please. I would appreciate that, but, can we go now? I have a lot to get done before tomorrow," she smiled.
Mrs. Williams nodded, and told Brie that they would leave as soon as they were given the clearance to go. I thanked her quietly, because it was situations like this when a girl needed a mom. Something Brie hadn't had in a very long time.
