*Erik POV*
Today at the station, I was asked some very personal questions. Why I’m being questioned about my s****l affairs is beyond me. I simply helped a girl from being assaulted, but they are shining a light on me like I was the one who did this.
I was asked some very detailed questions about Brie. I knew exactly where they were going with it, so I put a stop to it immediately.
“Mr. Green, what is the nature of yours and Miss Spicer’s relationship?” the jerk detective asked.
I smirked and squinted my eyes. After crossing my arms over my chest, I answered him while letting it be known that I was on to him.
“You have asked me this same question three times. Three. Why? This will be the last time I answer this. Brie and I are just friends right now. I admire her, and hope that we can become more than friends someday, but right now, that’s all we are. Friends. I don’t know what you are trying to prove or what you want me to say, but I won’t lie just because of you trying to make her out as something she isn’t,” I replied
He was beginning to get frustrated, but that was on him. I mean what I said, I wasn’t going to lie to fit his narrative.
It was time for us to join Dugan’s victims. I had seen some of them come in before I went into the room with the detectives, and I couldn’t believe how many girls there were. Some of them I had known since grade school.
I followed Detective Nolan out of the room, and she asked Principal Vandenburg to follow us. As we turned the corner in the hallway, there stood Brie with who I assumed was her brother.
As Detective Nolan introduced herself to the man with Brie, I wrapped my arms around my crush, and held her close. I told her how happy I was that she was here, and then told her about the questioning.
“They’ve been asking me questions since I got here. Things about that day, including the girls jumping you, the attack, and then stuff about you and I. He asked me several times about what you were to me. I know he was wanting me to say what he wanted to hear, and I wasn’t feeding into it because it wasn’t true,” I explained.
She rolled her eyes and said that she was so over hearing about Tawny and that fight. I was just about to move in for a kiss when I heard someone clear his voice.
“Brie, who’s your friend?” the man she was with asked.
“I’m Erik Green. I was with her the majority of the time that day. She didn’t deserve any of what happened to her that day, and I tried to help out the best I could. I think she’s pretty amazing,” I said as I introduced myself.
He began to look me up and down, and then shoved his hand towards me.
“I’m her brother, Blaze. Nice to meet the infamous Erik. Thanks for helping her. She hasn’t had much luck with finding kind people in that f*****g place. Her birthday is Sunday, but we are celebrating tomorrow, you should come. Bring some friends, but make sure they aren’t going to give her a hard time. My friends will also be there, and it wouldn’t be wise to f**k with her,” Blaze smirked.
Wow. I was not only invited to one of the most gated homes in the county, but was asked to bring friends. Everyone was aware of what happened during Blaze Spicer’s biker parties, and it was rare that outsiders were ever invited.
I smiled, and accepted his invite. I was scared to death of the man, but I wasn’t about to let him see that. I didn’t want him to think I was a weak kid who couldn’t protect his sister.
Detective Nolan said it was time to gather in the conference room, and I held Brie’s hand as we followed her. When we turned the corner, there stood that guy, Flynn, who didn’t look too pleased to see me holding her hand. I guess it upset him so much, he tried to show dominance and grabbed her hand too.
Blaze wasn’t amused by what was happening, and pulled Brie from us both. When we sat at the table though, Brie sat between her brother and me, leaving Flynn to sit on the other side of Blaze.
I heard Brie whispering to her brother about some of the girls that were coming into the room. It’s when I heard a strangled gasp come from her that I paid full attention.
“Erik! It’s Heather. Why is she here? Surely he didn’t hurt her too,” she said as she fought back her tears.
I started to look around the room for her, and when I saw her, I released a sad sigh. That girl was the epitome of innocence, and I hoped that he hadn’t assaulted her too.
Brie grabbed my hand and dragged me across the room to her friend. I tried to give them their moment of privacy, and kept scanning the room as they talked. I wanted to be a support, but didn’t want to intrude either.
After their exchange, I let Heather know that I was there for her if she needed a friend. She softly nodded, and went to sit with her parents.
Once everyone was ready, the detectives began the group questioning of the girls. It was crazy to me how similar their stories were, and all together different at the same time.
I don’t know what Brie had whispered to her brother, but it caused Flynn to snap at her.
“Don’t you ever say those f*****g words again! I mean it, Brie!” he snapped. He saw me looking, and gave me a dirty look. Again, I don’t know what I ever did to this guy.
By the time they got to Madison, I was struggling to pay attention. She and I had dated my freshman year, and when we broke up, it wasn’t a very good situation.
I had found out that she was abusing prescription pills, but I hadn’t ever heard the reason why until today. I felt bad for judging her back then, and I hoped that before they left today, her father was also in cuffs. He was no better than Dugan.
Heather was next, and I could see how terrified she was. However, she put on a brave face, and got through it. Out of all the situations, hers was by far the worst.
Finally, it was Brie’s turn. The way the questioning detective’s demeanor changed, I knew that he was going to make it hard on her.
The more questions he fired at her, the more she stood up to him. He was clearly trying to paint her as a person of loose morals, and make it seem as if she wanted Dugan to have s*x with her. Something that clearly wasn’t the truth.
The questions came to an abrupt halt when Blaze stood up and called the asshole out. He was pissed, and Detective Nolan quickly approached Brie and Blaze to apologize to her, and for the asshole's behavior.
As they were speaking, Flynn got up and stormed out. I wanted to follow him, but I decided against it. I needed to be there for her instead.
“I want him taken off her investigation. It’s obvious that he doesn’t truly believe any of these girls. He is definitely biased, and is siding with that asshole teacher,” Blaze said.
Brie sat there staring at her hands, and her leg bouncing a million miles a minute. She was pissed, and I couldn’t blame her.
No matter how much I tried to comfort her this time, I had to let her feel her emotions instead of calming them.
